S'algar is a fantastic place to visit if you want to relax and have a week sitting by the pool. I have now been 5 times and can't wait to go back again - me and my mum keep saying we'd love to live there!! Everything is clean and spotless and the staff are friendly. I... more

Superb Holiday in a beautiful location. The complex is immaculate with all of the rooms spacious and air conditioned. One of the issues we found when reading all the reports and seeing the pictures, people get mixed up with Salgar in Tenerife and therefore some reports do... more

We have been going to Salgar for the past 11 years on holiday. We normally stay in a villa but last year we decided we would have a change as we always used the Las Palmeras facilities. There is a lot to do if you are interested in watersports, as my children are (inc.... more

I enjoyed this holiday, it was the second time I have visited s’algar and it is a truly beautiful place, the place could do with a few more bars/ restaurants because we found ourselves driving out most evenings for dinner, the san Luis Hotel was great to eat at and very reasonable prices.

Fantastic holiday in lovely apartment with beautiful view
Just returned from holiday on 17.08.09 in these apartments. Booked for one week last minute. There was my partner, my mum and my two small children aged 4 and 2. We arrived at 21.00 after a smooth flight and effortless transfer (15 mins) from Mahon airport. The receptionist was friendly and helpful and advised us where our room was located - 15a & 15b - overlooking the pool with a view of the hills & sea at the back. Lovely clean rooms, well equipped kitchen and best of all - air conditioning!!!! It was needed as the temperature was in the high 30's....The staff were friendly and a blown bulb on the balcony was fixed within 30 minutes of it being reported. The pool was fantastic - we lounged by the childrens pool every day as to keep an eye on the little ones but also ventured into the larger pool - not overcrowded at all. The childrens club and playground was handy and enjoyed by my two greatly. The complex is clean and well kept and I felt very safe with my children there. There is a short walk into the town (about 15mins) or a free train runs in the evening from 19.00 to 22.00 - if you can get on at the hotel - many people just ride it round and round!! We always walked into town then caught the train back up. There is a great bar/restaurant called La Pirata - very friendly and helpful staff - great with the kids - good prices too. Would highly recommend here to anyone who wants a quiet and relaxing holiday - not too much going on for the teenagers - but a short bus ride or car journey away to the next town. Had such a good time we are planning on going back next year!!
Wonderful place,spotless.Peaceful location.
We stayed here for one week...My Husband,16 year old Daughter and her friend and myself. The complex was so very clean, the pool was never busy, without the usual fight for the sunbeds! The staff could not do enough for you and the food, although a limited menu, was very good and the service was second to none! The actual apartments were spotless, spacious and very comfortable. The resort is very quiet, which was just what we wanted but you can go to the 'Sister Hotels' for entertainment in the evenings. Would love to go back but perhaps hire a car so we can explore the Island a little further. A fantastic place-cannot fault it in any way!
Wonderful place for total relaxation
We have just returned from Las Palmeras Apartments. What a lovely place. Extremely clean and spacious. The pool is wonderful and never seems to be crowded. The self catering apartments are lovely. Air conditioned, very clean, well equipped and lovely views of the sea. If you are looking for a lively resort - then don't go! S'Algar is very quiet. The heart of the village - down by the sea front has a supermarket, a bakery (nice bread!) and a couple of restaurants. We went to the Reine Isabel restaurant 3 times in the week we were there. Lovely food and great Sangria! (12 EUR) for the jug. The staff at Las Palmeras are all wonderful, and the restaurant in the complex is top notch. I would thoroughly recommend this resort for families, and anyone looking for a peaceful holiday.
spotlessly clean - peaceful apartment complex
Have stayed in S'algar several times but this was our first stay at Las Palmeras. The apartments are larger than your average holiday apt and well equipped. The kitchen had a toaster, microwave and hob top kettle but the cookers have been taken out. Glad to see the apartments now have air conditioning in addition to the ceiling fan i the bedroom. The apartments and grounds were spotlessly clean - there wasn't a single day when the staff weren't cleaning , gardening or generally maintaining the place . The supermarket was limited in stock and opening hours - closed all day Wednesdays and Thursday. The nearest other supermarket is in the village (one at San Luis has closed), so its a long walk up the hill with shopping if you miss the on site supermarket opening hours. Would highly recommend the on site pizzeria -excellent with good service. The only fault we had was mosquitos!!! Not had this problem in S'Algar before but maybe it was the time of year as we normally go in July or August. Would definately advise taking bug repellent as it expensive in the shops in Menorca. Quiet resort in general and a car is necessary to get about - althought the resort is served by the local bus service to Mahon. Would recommend for families with small children , not much to do for older kids. although when we went there with 3 teenagers they really enjoyed themselves and didn't want to leave the resort and requested to go back again the next year.
one good holiday
this is our first holiday in four years we were taking our 6 year old adopted son as it was his first holiday abroad the wife picked it with advice from the thomas cook rep in the shop this was our first visit to minorca so we did not know what to expect and so onto the holiday great food great drink relaxing good company staff always helpful room and complex spotless what a great place to relax and unwind abby who was the thomas cook rep was fantastic she even went to the pharmacy in saint luis for us she was a real hero so i would say to you if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in the sun look no further than las palmeras
I enjoyed it and I always will
I have been to this resort four times (this being the fourth) and I have enjoyed myself everytime. I am 15 years old now and was 14 the last time I went with my parents and elder sister. I will admit that there isn't alot to do at the actual resort for people my age, apart from going to the pool and haveing a swim. Just a short walk down a road and you are in town where you can go scuba diving, shop or just relax at a restaurant if you like. I recommend the 'la pirate' restaraunt to eat at, the waiter is very friendly and the food is great (especially the scampi).
loved it
Went to las palmeras in the last week of the season w/c friday 21/10/05 on a First Choice allocation on arrival basis. We could not fault the apartments which are a very good standard and cleaned often and had all the facilities we needed.pool is very very clean and everything is so well maintained, when you consider we went after a full seasons use and yet everything was spotless. I agree with previou writer about the unsmiling waiters in the bar and restaraunt who were really miserable except for the head waiter and the very young lad. We really enjoyed the food their .Our only moan was that you could not buy fresh milk or most food products because it was being run down for the end of season, plus the village is very quiet and the other restaruant was shut. all in all a very good place but make sure you hire a car
Disaster
I can't really give a review of the hotel as such as despite booking 8 months in advance, when I arrived they had no record of my booking and no space! However they did not bother to inform me of this for over an hour. The chap on reception just rang his supervisor who rang his boss. In total I was waiting in reception for over 5 hours until eventually we managed to secure alternative accomodation in a different resort. The hotel itself looked good from receotion but I would obviously never return.
Las Palmeras recommended
The apartment and hotel surroundings were really clean, that was the first thing that pleased us. The resort is purpose built and although that means that you will not experience much in the way of authentic Spanish culture the whole resort was immaculate. The Las Palmeras restaurant was good but not brillaint. Therefore, we also tried the other couple of restaurants in S'algar. The 'Reina Isabel' was very good. If you want a fantastic restaurant then get the bus to Mahon (1.15 euro each), and then get a taxi home. Taxi's are fixed price and you can get from Mahon to S'alger for 15 euro. Lots of quality restaurants at Mahon quayside. All in all, heartily recommended.
Wildlife and Croissants
las palmeras turned out to be the most pleasant and laid back holiday we have had. the whole area was spotless and the pool was cleaned several times a day. one very small complaint is that a couple of the spanish lads working in the bar/pizzareia were a bit arsey and pretended they didn't understand english,so they got no tips.. we took our 13 year old daughter with us and she was a little bit bored. as there were not many kids her age there. one thing to note if you are interested in wildlife is to hop over the wall outside on the left and you will see loads of different lizards and geckos. be careful though because there are no barriers at edge of cliffs, and it's a long drop!!!! also if you like birds there are warblers, hawks and even hoopoes nesting behind the appartments. for some nice food, either a ten minute walk or the free happy train which stops outside the palmeras, will take you to s'algar where there is a choice of restuarants/bars. we ate there every night and could not fault it. one more thing, the shop at the palmeras sells the best fresh bread and croissants you have ever tasted but get there early!!!!!! so if you want a quiet clean relaxing holiday we would recommend las palmeras. P.S the bus for Mahon stops at entrance of palmeras
