apartments here are spacious and clean as is the pool area. NO kettle in kitchen. If you go self catering there are only two idepentant resturants a spar shop and a couple of gift shops. To walk to the beach at Alcafar it takes about 25 to 30 mins if you have children but be aware of the dogs poo. If you normally let your child wear a t-shirt in the pool, this is not permitted ( a law since 1972 apparently) they can wear the swimming lycra tops. Take plenty of insect repellant got biy quite bad even with it.
I personally would not go back there.

We were travelling for the first time with an 8 month old baby. I have been in Salgar many times before, but have always stayed at San Luis hotel.
This review is mainly aimed at people travelling with small children.
Accommodation: the one bedroom apartment was really lovely and clean. The only downside to the apartment was the facilities in the kitchenette were extremely limited. There wasn't even a kettle.
We put the cot in the bedroom and moved the two beds into the lounge area, so that baby could sleep in own room and we could use the facilities of the kitchen etc.
Time of Year: we were very early in the season and alot of places were shut up still from Winter. The main supermarket in the square was open, but the one on site at Las Palmeras was closed as was the one under the Hotel San Luis. Alot of the bars were still closed, so as we were self-catering we ate alot at the Pizzeria at Las Palmeras, which incidently is absolutely lovely.
Cot: we were given an absolutely disgusting horrible travel cot with the thinest mattress ever! That was all that was on offer after asking for something else. I had to ask for extra blankets and towels to try and pad it out
High Chair: I had to feed baby in pushchair as no highchairs were available at all
Kettle: there was no kettle in the kitchen and when I asked for one for making up baby feeds I was told that they hadn't yet chosen the kettles from the recent renovation!!!
Baby Food,Nappies & Wipes: don't bother lugging a load of baby jars with you, as the local Supermarket sells HIPP and Hero baby jars. You will need to take your own formula with you though. Also, don't bother lugging a load of nappies with you as again they are available in the supermarket. What I would suggest however, is on your first day take a taxi into Mahon and go to the Spar supermarket as it is the half the price of the local supermarket and get your weekly supplies.
Swimming Pool: the swimming pool is lovely for children, but I would suggest if you have a small baby to get a wet suit as the pool is very cold.

Our 5th visit many have been more times (its that sort of place). We love it always spotless the all inclusive option is great as we can also eat and drink at other places in resort San Luis for dinner although you have to book day before since 07.
Staff at Las Palmeras all lovely especially if you tip them first day! Head barman been there over 20 years knows everyone. The supermarket on site was much smaller in 07 which would make self catering a lot harder could not even get milk for two days so well worth the extra to go all inclusive especially as s'algar itself is very expensive to eat out in.
My teenage daughters make new friends there every year and meet up with old ones who they stay in contact with throughout the year, when we have mentioned in the past trying somewhere new we get major tears and tantrums, considering there is no entertainment for them at Las Palmeras this speaks volumes.
The pool area is the best in Menorca we have been told many times by the various reps and is beautiful when lit and kept spotless. Lifeguard on duty 07 for first time but not really necessary as only families there who tend to watch the pool anyway.
The food is lovely although a little limited in choice on all inclusive could not eat full time here but as we have option of eating at other hotels as well this is not a problem. Menu more varied for non all inclusive guests and breakfast much improved in 07 compared to 06.
If you want entertainment at night the San Luis is the place to go but as shows etc do not start until ten o'clock we have never bothered as it is a good walk back, land train only runs between seven and ten at night.
We get the bus outside the apartments into Mahon every year only takes 15 minutes then walk to harbour (downhill) lovely boat trips about an hour for 8 euro. Save some energy for walk back to bus station as uphill we have never managed to get a taxi from the harbour.
We are returning 08 and am trying to book for 09 at the moment but First Choice are not on general sale at the moment so trying other tour operators, flights are not really cheap to Menorca so a package tends to work out better.
A word or warning the lovely beach which you get to over the wall outside Las Palmeras previously mentioned (be careful of the cliff) is actually being used as a nudist beach by the Germans so probably best to be prepared.

S'algar is a fantastic place to visit if you want to relax and have a week sitting by the pool.
I have now been 5 times and can't wait to go back again - me and my mum keep saying we'd love to live there!!
Everything is clean and spotless and the staff are friendly.
I have two teenage sisters who love the place and always make lots of friends, who they have kept in touch with over the years, which seems to be a common thing as everyone seems to know someone from previous holidays.
I would recommend going into Mahon (easy on the bus which picks up outside the apartments) and taking a boat trip around the harbour.

Superb Holiday in a beautiful location.
The complex is immaculate with all of the rooms spacious and air conditioned. One of the issues we found when reading all the reports and seeing the pictures, people get mixed up with Salgar in Tenerife and therefore some reports do not read right.
The resort is approximately 20 minutes from the airport and I would recommend just getting a taxi from outside the arrival hall, as it is a lot cheaper to book locally.
Al the apartments are in small one up one down blocks based around the pools, some have pool views, and others are either out over the nature reserve or on to the resort itself. Each view has different good and bad points but all are respectable.
A difference in this all inclusive holiday is that lunch and dinner are waiter / waitress service from a menu. At first the range appears great but by the end of week one you are starting to get sick of it.
To counter this issue it’s well worth using the facilities in the other hotels in the resort as they are all owned by the same company and you are then able to use them all.
The pool is exactly as per the pictures ,very large and fresh water, both my kids spent all day in it, only coming out for snacks from the poolside bar and drinks.
Staff are lovely and helpful, accommodation is the best I’ve had when booking independent, food is decent, snacks and drinks are good. Resort and location wonderful.
I will definitely be booking to return again.

We have been going to Salgar for the past 11 years on holiday.
We normally stay in a villa but last year we decided we would have a change as we always used the Las Palmeras facilities.
There is a lot to do if you are interested in watersports, as my children are (inc. banana boats etc.) You can hire a car, to travel to main parts of the island.
If you have sons of any age they would defiantly enjoy going to the go-kart tracks (the best being near Santa Thomas).
You can use the facilities at the San Luis hotel. If you enjoy a quiet relaxing holiday this is perfect.
We stayed in the two bed roomed apartment which slept 6, with 2 people in each bedroom and 2 sofa beds in the living room.
The food at Las Palmeras is fantastic! You can walk to Alcufar, which takes about 10-20mins and there are nice pizzerias and also a fabulous little cove.
I'd go back to the Las Palmeras again anytime!

Me and my family went on holiday to this resort in July 2006. Our first thought of the resort that it was amazing, and it was. We enjoyed every moment that the day after we came back we went straight to our local Thomas Cook and booked for August next year along with our friends that we made on holiday.
The only disadvantage we had with the holiday was that our rep wasn’t very good at all, he didn’t do anything. We were there two weeks and we didn’t get a welcome notice until two days before we left, what good is that?
Apart from that everything was good, a good range of restaurants to eat at, quite good entertainment.
We can't wait for our holiday next year.

I have been to this resort for 3 years running and we have booked to go next year as well.
Me and my family all love it as it is such a relaxing resort without the hustle and bustle of people trying to make you play water polo etc!
The food at the complex is lovely and there is beautiful cove down through the woods of S`algar.
The views from the rooms are all gorgeous and also spar shop offers all of your favourite foods that you can buy at home such as Walkers crisps and Cadburys chocolate!

I enjoyed this holiday, it was the second time I have visited s’algar and it is a truly beautiful place, the place could do with a few more bars/ restaurants because we found ourselves driving out most evenings for dinner, the san Luis Hotel was great to eat at and very reasonable prices.

Right from intial booking to leaving, I found the resort facilities excellant, staff very friendly and hard working, with a desire to help you to the better. swimming pool very clean as were apartments and patio and all public areas. Only one small fault we had was the amount of flies, especialy in dining areas. when speaking to other residents on the island we soon found out it has a good retutation all across the whole island.
I have no hesitaion in returning, hopefuly when it is slightly cooler and not in the high 30's
