Petit Palace Opera Garden Ramblas

We booked this hotel knowing that it was new so there could be some teething problems but we thought, what the heck - great location and somewhere to put our heads down. First appearances of the foyer - fantastic and there ended the positive experience.
For three of us the room was tiny with pull down bunks. OK I guess if you have kids but still very small. There were no tea/coffee making facilities, no mirror in the main room. There were loose cables on the balcony which you have to share with the adjoining room. The shower was loosely hanging from the bathroom wall. There was a gap around the bathroom door so it left nothing up to the imagination. There was filler in various spots in the bathroom where things had obviously fallen off the wall and not been replaced.
The staff appeared friendly but were highly ineffective. We asked for the following things repeatedly and got neither; extra towel for 3rd occupant and a map of where to pick up bus tours.
The 'bar' was a wooden unit with 2 stools and no drinks visible. I asked for a glass of Rioja which the night porter (9pm) had to retrieve from a room in the back. The wine was freezing cold and we were told we could sit at one of the tables which had been laid up for breakfast because there was no bar area.
I find it astounding that this was a 4* hotel. There are far better hotels in the proximity. The only saving grace was that we did not pay the full room rate.
