cracker of a hotel
went to this hotel on the stength of the reviews , and what a bostin hotel.deserves a 4* rating , free luggage room etc makes it that bit easier if checking out late as we were.recommend going on bus touristic 17 euros all day pass, beware a lot of rip off tapas bars walk on main ramblas.10min walk up the top end to catuluna ramblas by diagonal for cheaper prices and better food, arriving at the airport don't use taxis.jump a blue/green single decker "airport bus"outside the main terminal for 3.60 euros direct to catuluna station and its 3min... more
Great location
Stayed in the NH Duc de la Victoria from 19/4 - 22/4. It lived up to all my expectations having read all the other reviews I have seen posted here. The room was immaculately clean and we were lucky enough to get a room on the fifth floor with a balcony looking over the rooftops. We didn't use the restaurant for breakfast or dinner. I'd recommend Cafe Zurich on Catalunya Square at the top of Las Ramblas for coffee and croissants before setting out in the morning. It's literally only 5 minutes walk away and you can people watch on the outside... more
Gem of a Hotel
We spent three days in Barcelona at the beginning of April and certainly enjoyed our stay at the Duc de la Victoria. Probably the only tricky part was finding it as we had to take seperate cabs from the train station...three children, lots of luggage...and neither cab driver knew where it was, even with the benefit of the address. Called the Hotel using the driver's cel phone and they were able to guide us in. Enjoyed the benefit of the two corner rooms; like a mini suite, 218/219 and found everything to be clean and well maintained.... more
Great hotel!
I'm just back from a long weekend break at this hotel and I loved it- was glad I had read all the reviews here and found them all to be true- the location is perfect, close to the port, Las Ramblas, the tourist bus etc. The rooms are lovely, with really nice toiletries, the mini-bar had the best prices I have seen in an hotel.. We didn't have breakfast or dinner at the hotel, but like the other reviewers, we found the Bagel Shop was ideal. The only fault I found was the phone didn't work in the room, but we didn't need to make any calls so... more
Good location
This hotel is in a really great location in Barcelona's old town, close enough for a walk down to the Mediterranean along the Ramblas or up to the Eixample. It's also only a few minutes walk to the Cathedral. The rooms were clean, the staff friendly and the price was great. The only downside was the view over an unattractive interior courtyard from our window, but this was not a deal-breaker by any means. Overall, this is a good place to stay.
Great location, just like the reviews
Our family of 4 spent 3 nights at the hotel in February 2005. We were thrilled to receive rooms next to each other (118/119) with an additional exterior door. It was like having our own mini-suite. The breakfasts were more than plentiful and satisfied even 10 and 8year olds tastes! The stroll from the taxi stand at the Hard Rock Cafe an easy walk to the hotel... we had small cases on wheels. The rooms are clean, well maintained by housekeeping, and the location is central while being conveniently tucked away and quiet (at least in winter... more
Excellent Location!! Good Quality Rooms, Friendly Staff
I took my girlfriend here in December '04 for a weekend break on birthday, and i am pleased to say that i was very happy with my choice of hotel. The hotel is in a excellent location, situated on a quiet street which is less than 1 minutes walk from the bustling Las Ramblas, and with it being right in the centre only 2-3mins walk from Playa Catalunya (One of the main centres in Barcelona, from which you can catch the turist buses and service buses). Also within 5mins walking distance was the shopping area. I was also pleased with... more
The best city in Europe!
Stayed at this hotel on the 7th and 8th of January and found it to be both very comfortable and of excellent value. For €70 per night (plus the obligatory taxes) the hotel punched well above the 3 star rating. The location is superb, deep in the Gothic Quarter, close to the Cathedral, La Rambla and Plaza Catalunya. Staff on the front desk were very helpful in any of our queries and suggested a spectacular tapas bar just around the corner which is an absolute must visit. Best time of year to be in Barcelona, plenty of locals around,... more
Great hotel!!
We,two girls in our early twenties, stayed here in August 2004,and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is situated right in the heart of the shopping district, yet the hotel street is quiet. The reseption made a lovely first impression, with a cool breeze from the A/C to soothe the weary travellers. Our room was above all expectations, with plenty of space, great beds and a very nice bathroom.Cleanliness was good throughout our stay. We had some problems with the safe in our room, but thanks to very helpfull staff,it was solved in no... more
Really central for shopping
We stayed at the hotel for three nights on a short shopping break. Great location in the pedestrian area and just yards from the main shopping streets. Rooms were spotlessly clean, although the safe did not work. The hotel lacks a lounge and while there is a small bar hidden away upstairs behind the restaurent, it was tiny and it seemed to be a bit of a chore to find the barman. However, the location more than makes up for these small gripes. Would recommed this hotel - and we only paid 83 euros per night!
