Hotel Medium Monegal

Great location near the Plaza Catalunya. My single room was overlooking courtyard and I had no fresh air (I would say it smelled a bit). Air conditioning system does not work properly and it was hot enough. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Overall I thought this hotel was very good. I stayed there for three nights while on a city break to Barcelona. My room was quite small but contained everything I needed for an enjoyable stay and was spotlessly clean. I found the staff friendly and helpful. There was some noise but I think that's to be expected given the hotel's central location. We stayed in the Hotel Monegal for 4 nights and couldnt fault it. It is the perfect hotel for a mini break, great value and a good location. It is a bit noisey at night but the location of the hotel more than makes up for that. It is right in the centre of the city, at the top of La Rambla. We only had to walk across the street to the plaza to catch one of the many tour buses. The staff were very friendly and any request we made when we booked the hotel on-line was honoured. We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights. It is very good located and the price is ok. The double room is big enough for two people but because it is right next to mc donalds it was impossible to open the window to get fresh air, so the air in the room was very stuffy. Also because of the vantilators very noisy.

Hotel in great location, very easy to find and handy to explore the city everything was within walking distance. Don't book a double room as these are all at the back & tiny. Otherwise hotel v. clean and staff extremely nice and helpful. Will definitely stay here again on any return trip.

Hi! My friend and I stayed in this hotel during our trip to Barcelona last May. We booked our trip at the last minute so it was difficult for us to find accomodation for 10 days. We stayed at a few hotels in Barcelona and by far this was the best one! It has a fantastic central location and is a short walk to the subway, restaurants, internet kiosks and fabulous shopping. We stayed in the Monegal for 3 nights in June 04. Being next to the Ramblas and Catalyna Sq, it was very convenient - the airport bus & the tour bus stop in the Sq and there's a metro station too. Thinking a room facing away from the Ramblas would be quieter, we asked for one at the rear (were given 200), only to find that there are industrial sized air ducts running up the side of the building and connected to a noisy air-extractor which does not shut down till the early hours! This hotel is a fantastic bargain - perfectly located, very clean and we had a balcony with the most amazing view. If you can put up with a bit of noise it is worth it is well worth it just to soak up the atmosphere. I was very impressed with this hotel - it's better than a number of supposedly better class hotels I have stayed in in the past.

agreed with all the other reviews about location - perfect. All I can say is try your hardest to get a room with a window facing Placa de Catalunya. We got a room facing inwards, on the second floor and it was pretty dark and dingy. Didn't bother us too much because we don't spend that much time in the room, but it would have been nice to wake up in the morning with some natural light in our room, and have a view over the main square.
