Beautiful hotel - massive complex...
8 / 10
Nov 2005, Mr S Crossley

Beautiful hotel - massive complex with bars, restaurants, shopping mall, gym, swimming pool etc.
Short walk to town/city centre (i.e. medina = 30 mins). Beach only about 10 mins away.
Rooms of good standard as is food. Very cheap to eat out even if you are full/half board make the most of it.
Locals friendly - some begging and much bartering but take it in the local spirit (it is a different culture)
Enjoy.
P.S. Head North about 1 mile towards Port El Kantaoui and get excellent i.e.-cream for pennies at Casa e Glaca.

Nov 2005, Miss S Hesford

I've just returned from a lovely week at this hotel. I will return. The hotel is very grand and in a nice area.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and well furnished. The food is great and drinks are not expensive (much less than I expected).
All the staff are very friendly and helpful. I went on holiday on my own as a thirty-something blond woman expecting loads of hassle, but certainly not at the hotel. They are too well trained and polite for that.
The town itself is very interesting - a couple of minutes away by taxi (less than a pound) or a 15 minute walk. The Medina is as you would expect it - shops and bedlam and hassle, but very interesting.
I loved this - cannot fault the holiday in any way - even though I fell and broke my wrist it was just great. Going back next year.

Nov 2005, Miss S Shaikh

We had a wonderful time at this hotel. The Staff were lovely and helpful and we made a lot of friends there.
The sea view was beautiful and the rooms were cleaned daily. There is so much to do in Sousse, we were there for 2 weeks and still didn't get to do half the things that are available. The hotel band were friendly and the waiters very polite and fun, everyone was so nice.
If you want to lie on the beach all day and go clubbing at night you might as well go to Spain. It's not that kind of holiday - it is cultured and exciting.
My boyfriend and I loved this country and the people. We are definitley going back to this amazing holiday.

After enjoying a lovely holiday at...

Oct 2005, susannah 22

After enjoying a lovely holiday at the Royal Kenz we couldn’t wait to go back to Tunisia. I went to the Tej Maharba with my husband and on the whole we were quite dissappointed. On arriving the hotel looked very grand but on reaching our room we could tell it was looking "tired" and in need of a facelift.
The pool area was lovely and if you tipped the sun-bed guy he would save a bed for you in your favourite spot for all of your stay (a couple of dinars a day about 90 pence). Once you have found your way around this massive hotel give the Rose and Crown a miss, very dark and drab.
The pool bar does a lovely pizza you will need these because the food is dreadful!! Whatever's left over from the night before is served up for breakfast! The last 3 days we had cauliflower and roast potatoes. Try and take a spoon with you the waiters treat them like gold, bit difficult to eat custard with a fork!!

We have just come back from a week in...

We have just come back from a week in hotel Marharba in Sousse. The hotel is situated right on the beach and a short and very cheap (but hair raising) taxi ride from the centre of Sousse.
All the staff from the reception to the bar staff, waiters to cleaners are amazing they all speak excellent English (as well as many other languages) and are very helpful and always to hand if needed but never in the way.
Our room was simple but more than adequate.
We were half board and food was served in a buffet style. The food was always great and a good selection, we ate a good 3 course evening meal each night.
The resort of Sousse is a bustling town with many souvenir shops most selling the same thing but try to find a fixed price shop before you start haggling as got ripped off a couple of times!!!!
The beach was lovely and clean although very busy and the sea was very clean too.
All in all the holiday was great and a place we will visit again.

Had an absolutely fabulous holiday at this hotel. Hotel was exceptionally clean and rooms were made up each day to a fantastic standard. Staff all very nice, made you feel very welcome. Food was very nice, waiters and restaurant staff were great, very pleasant.
Had a disabled member of our party, hotel proved very good for wheelchairs, although fairly difficult when you try to cross the road and walk down the street. You must be strong with the men there and haggle!! It helps if you have a sense of humour to go here. Great fun all round, I'd go back tomorrow!!

Just returned from a 7 night stay at...
7 / 10
Sep 2005, Mr G Moore

Just returned from a 7 night stay at the Tej Marharba in Sousse Tunisia. Thought I would add a few pointers.
Flights and transfers no problem at all. Hotel room was very nice, I would compare it to a slightly larger version of a holiday inn hotel room, basic but comfortable with Air Conditioning!! We were on the 6th floor facing the sea so had a very nice view. We paid for half board and felt let down really, the dining room was a bit like a school canteen with a funny smell that was really off putting, we ate our evening meal there once and that was enough. It was not very nice, breakfast was ok, thank god for pancakes and croissants as that is all we ate in the morning.
For lunch there is a nice bar/restaurant by the pool which served nice food. In the evening we went out to eat but not in Sousse, Sousse is pretty disgusting with a very foul smell of drains throughout the city, we got a taxi up to Port el Kantoui every night which is much nicer and mainly for tourists unlike Sousse which is full of strange people mainly men, we went for a walk into Sousse on our fist night and my girlfriend was really intimidated, the men just don’t stop leering. Its quite cheap to eat out but it was an extra expense to us as we thought we would eat in the hotel every night.
Its quite strange when walking around as waiters are in the street practically pulling you into their restaurants by your arm, just smile and say no thank you and you should be ok.
The Medina in Sousse is great fun, most shops sell the same things and they all have people out side trying to pull you in, again just smile and say no thanks and you will be fine, we didn’t have any trouble, we quite enjoyed it. As a whole Tunisia is an experience, we wouldn’t go back to Sousse, we would stay in PEK if we went again but we wouldn’t be in a rush to go back to the country.
Most of the people are very nice and friendly, and get used to tipping because you tip everyone all the time. Only 1 dinar which is about 45p so its not that bad. The beach and sea was lovely with jet ski’s, paragliding , canoeing , wind surfing , banana boats, the list goes on, and the pool area in the hotel was lovely to, all in all you will have a nice relaxing holiday in a nice place.
Apart from the food we couldn’t fault the hotel, very clean , friendly staff , nice rooms, but i wouldn’t recommend going into Sousse of a night, take a taxi to PEK its only 4 or 5 dinar about £2.50.

The hotel was very nice. but the men there are perverted you cant go anywhere on your own without being followed which ruins your holiday.
The waiters and the chefs are very polite and helpful i would definitely go back even though there are weirdoes. They try and persuade you to buy things in the town of Sousse. You also have to leave a tip everywhere you go.
Even though the hotel allows Tunisian people into the hotel they are very polite but some of them are perverted. The rooms are very nice the hotel overall is very clean and the cleaners never stop cleaning the floors.
The weather is extremely hot sometimes it’s even to ho to sunbathe. I would definitely recommend this hotel to over people.

Hotel and staff excellent, very...

Hotel and staff excellent, very clean. Our rep was very helpful and visited the hotel twice a day except Thursday. You need to take your own beach towels, which was rather surprising being a 4 star. Front of hotel view looks onto rubbish tip with small balcony rear view fantastic. Hotel’s beach visited every day with staff there to help you.
Food at the hotel very poor. more or less the same every day and catering for the Tunisians taste, always luke warm or cold - bonus is that you don’t put on weight !
Entertainment in hotel and nightclub good and also the English bar. The Madina is worth going to for all your shopping bargains. Would not feel safe going outside of the hotel at night but you do not need to as everything you need is here as there is a shopping complex attached, rather expensive though compared to the Madina.
Went for 2 weeks but if we went again would go only for 1. Weather fantastic apart from 3 days when it was cloudy. Went of the boat trip - waste of money - food bad (husband got the trots eating the fish they served) and the only sight we saw was the coastline and the horizon.

The Tej Marhaba is known as the jewel...
9 / 10
Sep 2004, pootlesuzie

The Tej Marhaba is known as the jewel of the Marhaba Group and it lives up to it’s name.
The rooms are clean, regularly visited by chamber maids and comfortable. We found them to be safe too, anything that was left in the room stayed in the room. The main foyer of the hotel has a bar and some magnificent marble sculptures. The original artwork on the walls was by a local talented artist. The owner of the hotel also owns the local soccer team and they train using the hotel facilities, a very pleasant sight indeed!
Under the hotel is a Turkish bath (hamaam) and for well under £30 you can enjoy a bath, a peel, a seaweed mud pack and a massage. Very relaxing! We were on a half board stay and this was my first such trip since a disastrous visit to Majorca over 20 years ago.
The food was lovely, a mixture of Tunisian, German and English dishes - if you can’t live without sausage and chips this is not for you. But if a casserole of lamb and chickpeas, spicy kofkas and freshly made pancakes are for you - try it heavenly divine desserts - tiny little gateaux (as many as you like) and plenty of fresh fruit. For breakfast we recommend either the fresh pancakes or an omelette cooked while you wait. When eating outside the hotel we found the street vendors selling Tunisian chapattis and hot choc nuts to be tasty. Tunisians serve harass with almost everything and if you don’t take to chilli - watch out this blows your mind. We ate out at various restaurants and the only advise I give is ask for receipt - even though you don’t need it waiters will add a few Dinars onto the price because you are not local.
Sousse is a large city and is clean enough, we were not bothered by any beggars and although we were aware of the poorness of the nation it was not apparent in the friendliness of the locals.
We rode camels through an olive grove, paraglide in the sea, rode the tuk-tuk to Port-El-Kantoui and took the little train
We went up to Hammamet and Nabeul- we found fantastic bargains in rugs spices and souvenirs
Every day we swam in the pool the weather was great.
The traffic was crazy. Go see this beautiful African nation

The Tej Marhaba is a large and well...

Aug 2003, pumpkin

The Tej Marhaba is a large and well situated family hotel with a whole host of amenities. There is a huge outdoor swimming pool and a usually deserted indoor pool, and a small gymnasium and pool tables. There are also shops and restaurants and a British style pub. The hotel itself is immaculate, the rooms comfortably pleasant and the staff extremely polite, although at times the buffet-style meals grew a little monotonous.
Overall though, I found the hotel a little lacking in individuality and character, but if you want a relaxing holiday in pleasant surroundings with everything you need close by then you can’t really go wrong with the Tej Marhaba.
There was also a fantastic little restaurant just outside the hotel, which served beautiful steaks and provided absolutely brilliant service, which I couldn’t recommend highly enough.
