I was reading some reviews about this holiday before i went, so i really wasnt expecting it to be that good, but it was great we had a fantastic time and could not have wished for a better holiday, I think some people are just extremely picky about silly things, but if you go with an open mind you wont be disapointed,
The Food
the food was brill, i am suprised at some comments that the food was the same all the time because each day it was differernt , well i must say breakfast was the same but dinner was great, all meals you can have as much as you want and with so much variety with food from all over the world, theres always somthing that suites everyone. I will give you a tip though, make sure you ask the chefs what they are making, at first we just thought they were just observing the buffet, but they make fresh omlettes and fresh pancakes at breakfast.
The room
we were very lucky because we had the best room and the view was so amazing, it was cleaned daily and we couldnt fault it, however we did have trouble with the key getting in, the locks are very tricky but once you get used to them its fine, also i do recommend you buy a safety deposit box, although we didnt have any problems we know people did.
The entertainment
i must say that i felt the entertainment most of the time was aimed at the more maturer guests so we werent really interested,
The location
there is like a small path from the shopping centre of the hotel to the beach, look for the signs otherwise you can find yourself going all the way around, but the beach is great and lodes of fab water sports we tried them all and they were so great, the workers at the beach are really nice too, they will try to sell you things ike camel rides and a pirate ship adventure, we did the pirate ship adventur and i would not recommend it, 1st they get a taxi for you to the port were you go on this boat which is made to look like a pirtate ship, you have a meal on there, stay there for 3 hours, and then you get ack realising you have to make your own way back to the hotel, and there are lodes of taxi drivers conning you, it is advertised as you can swim in the ea with dolphins etc, but you cant, its a bit rubbish.
The Sahara explora excursion
this is a really good way to see tunisia the country beyond the tourism and it is quite poor, this trip is a great expirience that you will never forget but its really alot of traveling like almost 600 miles and in the heat of the south and the desert its very tiring, i certainly wouldnt recommend this for children, its not very enjoyable because you are too hot and tired to enjoy it.

Just got back from a 1 week stay, we found the hotel and holiday lovely and relaxing. Staff very friendly and hotel food lovely. Nice swimming pool area, hotel and grounds very well maintained.
Exchange bureau in hotel could be open longer and decor in bedrooms a little dated.
We would definitely return to this hotel.

To all you Tej Marhabians, just booked our 5th year trip back to the Tej for this July, we cannot fault this hotel at-all. Went to this hotel for our honeymoon back in 2004, been back every year. My 15 year old daughter enjoys this hotel aswell. We got married September 2004 and we had booked into a hotel in Sousse, could not remember the name, a few weeks before our honeymoon the travel company called to say we had to move to another hotel, cannot remember why. We were moved to the Tej Marhaba. I had been on a few review websites about the hotel and lots of people said to me you will love it or hate it. After our wedding we had a night flight so we arrived in the dark and did not know what to expect. Well, as soon as we woke up the next morning we felt like we were in heaven, our room was on the 3rd floor and it overlooked the pool and sunbathing area. It was magnificent, the staff were really nice, the food was excellent, the pool was very nice, overall the hotel was fantastic. Sousse is absolutely breath taking too, we also visited the Sahara Desert...what an experience, it was amazing. Our honeymoon was that brilliant we went back the following year for our wedding anniversary (Sep/Oct). Both of these times the weather was not really hot and not too cold, so we then decided to go back the following year, which we did, this time we went in June, the weather was really hot and this trip got better and better, this was the same year I fell off the hotel steps by the pool area and had to be taken to hospital for an x-ray, I badly sprained my ankle luckily it happened two days before were due to fly home, the staff in the hotel and the hospital were very kind and supportive in my hour of need. We went back last year again, in the June and we took our 15 year old daughter, she fell in love with the place too, lots of shops for shopping. We are going back this year for the 5th time in July.....the Tej Marhaba will be forever. We love this hotel.

Just read Mr Smiths comment about this hotel and well I can't believe a word he says!! This hotel is absolutely fantastic!! I was there last week and only one word to descibe the hotel and holiday in whole... WOW! Apparently this is a 4 star hotel, its should be 5!! The service provided by all the staff is second to none. Food in the restaurant was fab... something to suit everyone and never ate the same meal twice. I was worried about the dinners in the restaurant as my fiance is very picky, but it went down extremely well! Try the Tunisian Salad (cucumbers, tomatoes and onion in a delicious dressing). The hotel has everythjing... gym, outside and indoor pool, sauna, indoor bar and great entertainment at night. The band are superb. In the Tej Marhaba centre, which you can access from the pool area, there are shops, a disco which is open till 4am, an English pub called the Rose and Crown and a bistro. Rooms are cleaned and towels changed every day and although the cleaners can't speak English, they are extremely friendly.
There's lots to do in Sousse and the surrounding areas, the Medina in Sousse is a 3 minute taxi drive away and a chance to grab some great bargains, you will need to haggle though!! One word of advice... never take an unlicensed taxi anywhere! There's one guy that stands outside the hotel everyday offering fantastic trips in his car, yeah his prices can be good if you haggle with him, but he will take you to a Berber Village whether you want to go or not and there you are forced to buy very expensive rugs!! So if he asks you if you would like to go see camels, say NO!! The horse and cart rides are great, but again they will take you to these Villages and nearby shops where you will be forced to buy stuff you really don't want, we just said no in about 4 different languages and enjoyed a half hour horse and cart ride with no stops!!
Port El Kantoui is beautiful. i would reccommend the AquaScope boat trip, a glass bottom boat which takes you about 2 miles out into the Med and last about 40 minutes, it's cheap though, we paid 13 dinars pp, which is about £6 pp. The Zoo and bontanical gardens are worth seeing as well, for 5 dinars pp (about £2.30pp) you can spend as long as you want in the gardens where they have thousands of exotic plants, camels, ostriches, emus and such like. DON'T get your picture taken with the parrot though! It'll cost you about 15 dinars and the picture is taken with your own camera!!
Monastir is about a half hour drive away and will cost about 30 dinars by taxi, or you can take the Metro. There you can visit the Mausoleum of Bourguiba, which is free and it's absolutely beautiful. Just watch for the men who escort you round, they will expect quite a few dinars in return, but they are very informative and probably worth speaking to if you can't read arabic!!
The food in tunisia is superb, the fresh fruit and vegetables are brill and you have to try the real fruit smoothies, delicious. Just watch out for chicken in restaurants on the street, sometimes it's not chicken!
Overall, this holiday was fantastic, I was in Skanes 10 years ago but so much has changed. Top notch place for culture, food and places to visit. Definetely recommend it to anyone!!

Hello, First holiday my girlfriend and myself have been on, and absolutely loved it!!! Food was great, service at the hotel was great, entertainment (especially the band and the magic man) were great!! Such a grand hotel!! The porter did however stand in our room after bringing up our suitcase waiting for a tip, but i wasn't prepared to give him any, since it is his job to bring the suitcases up (would have prefered to do it myself to be honest) so i just showed him the door, and he went on with his day!! Waiters were very helpful during the dining as well!! Most annoying thing was the taxi drivers! Rememeber to either have it on a meter or set a price with them before getting in!! Weather was fantastic, the zoo is also a really good trip to go on, and the madina trip as well!! Over all, such a lovely place!!! if you have any more questions or want any photos of the hotel and the surrounding, email me, and will send you pictures, and also did some films, which are fantastic :) email me on: muu40b@bangor.ac.uk (my university email address)

I have had 2 long stays at the tej marhaba in sousse in jan 2006 and jan 2008 the last holiday had been very poor, our room was very shabby, cigarette burns in the bed clothes stained bedroom carpets and a heavy urine smell from the bathroom, the bath and sink were blocked and would not drain out. In 2 years the hotel had deteriated very badly, I had in previous years stayed in better 2 stars and can say in all honesty that the tej is not a 4 star and really needs to be seriously reviewed, below standard food, repetitious, not very clean restaurant, public areas cleaned by contractors and well done, but behind the scenes not very clean work carried out by own staff who seem to be always under pressure, even more so in over stretched restaurant. This hotel seems to me and others to be in some sort of trouble, someone could end up suffering illness due to very poor housing keeping and low daily maintenence. problem with general management. hotel not recommended.

well this was our first time to sousse in tunisia so we did not know what to expect really we always go first choice as this travel company offers good value. nice drive to the hotel and arrived without having a RTA which was a bonus really, nice hotel front very grand outside, nice red carpet bit like the kodak cinema without the stars!!! so we are well up for it relaxing and eating, eating and relaxing etc .we are greeted with "el ow" from the staff and of coarse the hand is out which for the next week was standard practice well does it matter no, cos we are on our holiday !!! we arrived quite late and a meal was provided and very good it was too. rooms are very nice, clean and well presented tv is poor but my german game show knowledge is much better i was well into by day four. so its down to breakfast dont miss it seeing the over 80s fighting over the pancakes and hiding the cheese in there bags for their lunch its not be missed at any price! did not see the dutch do this though they just eat every think else bless em my view has change by the end of the week as they hog the lift as well if they did not eat as much, we brits could share the lift sometimes to get to the food before our europern cousins eat it all.

We have just returned from holiday in tunisia. The hotel was clean and comfortable,Ok the food could have been a bit better and more varied and catered for the English more instead of the Germans and French, but I must say that all the staff were friendly provided you gave them a small tip every time they did anything for you-they expect it.
The only thing that spoilt the holiday big style was the actual resort of Sousse.
You cannot walk down any streets without being hassled big style by everybody tunisian including restaurants, shopkeepers, beggars, who dont take no for an answer and continue hassling you while you are trying to get away. This is very unnerving,so if you are thinking of a holiday in Sousse to do some shopping in your own time, forget it.
We have allways been European holidaymakers,we just thought we would try something different, but because of the continual hassle this was probably the worst holiday we have had,so I have to say Tunisia for a holiday NEVER AGAIN.
