What an awful place!
from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at this place in July for 2 nights - what can I say? The worst place I have ever stayed at. The one good thing was the staff, who we found to be very friendly and accommodating. And the proximity to the Ramblas - 5 minute walk. However, the hotel is located right in the seedy red light area. Now, I am fairly broad minded and well travelled and thought this wouldnt be a problem, but the reality was quite different. I have never seen anything like it in my life! There must have been about 40 prostitutes standing right outside the...

Perfect for College Students looking for a little more
from A TripAdvisor Member
I recently stayed at the Hotel Barbara in Barcelona, Spain. It is a one star hotel so it is extremley basic-but it is a step above a hostel-and thats why we choose to stay there. Being a college student I was on a tight budget. There are many reviews on the internet that it is kind of a sketchy neighborhood-prostitutes, drug dealers etc. That is somewhat true, it is more of a sketchy street to stay on, but I felt safe the entire time. It is about a 2 minute walk from Las Ramblas a big strip with a bunch of clubs, bars, and overpriced...

Good value for money
from IanBamforth
Spent two nights here, overall very good value. Incredible amount of ugly prostitutes outside, especially during the day. Not ideal for families, but great for stag/hen weekends. The hotel is clean and functional. There is aircon, but in some rooms it doesn't work. Watch out for the 3-man lift - they mean it! 7 of our group got stuck in there for half an hour. The road from La Rambla to the hotel can be a little dodgy if you're on your own at night - keep your hands on your wallet! We suffered a couple of muggings, but nothing...

Good little basic hotel- if you don’t mind the neighbours
from Nigelhu
The Hotel Barbara was basic, yet it was clean and presentable. The inclusive breakfast was again basic, but of acceptable quality: machine coffee, orange juice, croissant and muffin. The staff were friendly and courteous. Even the cleaning staff were friendly, as they made their daily rounds. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from Las Ramblas, making it an ideal place to stay for a tourist. And now for the major set back: through no fault of the hotel, the location is right in the middle of red light area - and what a busy red...

Cheap no frills base
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and used it just as a base to shower, change and sleep and it is perfect for just that, as long as you don't wish to sleep for more than 5 hours a night. Situated slap bang in the middle of the red light district there was a little more noise than we bargained for (and we expected it to be very noisy being in the inner city) The pro,s and pimps have absolutely no consideration for anyone who may want to grab a few hours shut eye, they spent every evening shouting, screaming and arguing until all hours...

Basic Rooms.Helpful Staff.Cheap Price.
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from a 3 night stay at Hotel Barbara in Barcelona. First impressions were not too good as there are a lot of ''ladies'' doing business in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. However DO NOT let this put you off as they don't approach you or hassle you in any way. Once inside we found the reception area to be bright and clean and the Staff were polite and helpful also. The room we were allocated could be best described as ''functional''. It was quite small with a tiny bathroom and the view from the window was of the interior...

Excellent for a one-star with this price
from A TripAdvisor Member
We were very sceptical before we went to the hotel. With my wife and my 3 year old son, the "redlight district" phrase was making me afraid. Besides, El Raval was told to be a non-secure area. However, all of my doubds ran away after we stayed at Hotel Barbara. Yes, there are ------ at the street next to the hotel but they are harmless. And yes, most people residing in the area are poor, and mostly foreigners (like Ingians and Pakistanis) but they also have lots of souveniour shops in Barri Gotic too. The area is totally secure with...

Basic But Ok
from GingerMenace
Just got back from there after staying two nights. If you are looking for something cheap, basic and clean, then its fine The staff were helpful, its in a good location, a few minutes walk from Rambles and the area seemed quite safe despite the ladies of the night who did not bother you. I had a problem though with noise in the early hours with people shouting even though I was on the 5th floor, my room was over looking the square. Also the room got quite hot due to no air con. Over all it was ok and if I was looking again for somewere basic...

Value for money
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at Hotel Barbara in late june where the summer was at rise. There's no aircondition, so be prepared for hot nights! The room was SMALL but clean. Breakfast is simple and fat. Not what we hoped for. The staff was helpful. All in all: It was worth the money but not more.
The perfect city break
from elaineincornwall
Had a really good five days staying at the Hotel Barbara with my two teenage children just a five minute walk from Las Ramblas. Basic hotel but very reasonable. Being so well located meant that we didn't need to use public transport at all apart from the trip to and from the airport. There was enough of interest within walking distance to keep us entertained without even planning the day! Food and drink reasonably priced and wonderfully varied. Bought loads of fruit from the main market every morning - strawberries 1 euro per kilo!...
