Aug 2011, clare

i stayed at this hotel for 3 nights with my partner. The hotel was mega dated, the lift was from the dark ages which you had to walk through the car park to get to. The restaurant was dirty, i picked three glasses before finding a clean one that i could use. Didnt get up... more

Don't even consider staying at this dump, my wife and I were unlucky enough to stay here for three nights and we still don't know why we didn't walk out as soon as we saw our room, I think it was a matter of both of us being completely exhausted and not wanting to cause a... more

Good Location, tiny room
Stayed at the Auto Hogar in Barcelona from May 30th to June 3rd 2006. Arrived at the hotel at 9pm and definitely got one of the smallest rooms in the hotel. The room included a double bed, a wardrobe (which couldn´t be opened because the bed got in the way), a desk and a little bathroom. There was two of us, difficult to walk around the room with two suitcases. Shower was broken but had hot water. Don´t think about having a bath, definitely not big enough to even kneel into. The toilet was wedged between a little window and the sink. Very... more
mixed feelings
having read reviews AFTER i had booked this hotel (i know, i know) i was filled with some trepidation. however, it was better than i feared. the location is excellent. next to a metro stop and 5 minutes walk from both the harbour and la rambla. the staff were friendly and helpful. the hotel was clean and my room was cleaned and given new towels every day. the breakfast was much better than the average continental buffet style; plenty of it and space in the dining room. i found the attached cafe bar to be reasonably priced and of good... more
Basic, clean(ish) but noisy at night
Six of us stayed here in May 2006, in six single and double rooms over about three floors, so the comments below don't relate to any particular room - but do show a consistency across several rooms. The hotel is clean and basic but that's about all that can be said about it. It was very overpriced at €100 a night. You do have to go through the underground car-park to get to most of the rooms but that was well lit and seemed quite safe. At night, the sound from other customers walking on the hard tiles on each floor and banging... more
Auto Hogar
Arrived in the early hours of the morning at the hotel. we were pleasantly suprised, the lobby looked really nice. checked in and set off following the porter(?) to our room (no offer to carry our heavy bags). started to worry when we left the hotel and entered an underground car park, but relaxed when we saw the door on the other side leading back into the hotel. this part of the building wasnt quite as impressive, but was clean. room was acceptable, twin beds, wardrobe, small bathroom. tv in room, but no english channels. best thing... more
Very pleasant Hotel
Just arrived back from Barcelona, the hotel was very pleasant. The staff were friendly, helpful and the hotel was very clean. Rooms made up every day and breakfast was all you could eat. (very nice) However, was a little noisy at night, doors banging and loud music at 6am. Generally very good, with a good location.
Clean rooms but problems
Arrived on a Sunday no welcolm from reception only we had booked would have turned round and walked straight back out.Room and en-suite were a decent size very clean the beds were fine.Noise was loud both people and traffic, could not have the windows open.Room was cleaned throughly everyday Breakfast was very good compared to others places we have stayed and plenty of it,the only down fall was if you arrived after 8-oclock the food was cold apart from the toast which you do yourself. The majority of the staff are unhelpful and... more
Room with no natural light
I went to Barcelona from 5th to 8th March. 3 nights. for the Barca v Chelsea match. I was in a room where you had to walk thro the carpark to get to it. Room was internal with a small window out onto a small central area but being a high building there was little natural light. Noisy at night because of football fans. I don't know what they clean the rooms with but it smelt of a cross between lemon toilet cleaner and liquorice/aniseed. Smell lingered. Returned to hotel one afternoon at 3pm and room had still not been serviced. I had gone out... more
Not so great... w/ pictures
My girlfriend and I stayed in Auto-Hogar for 3 nights in March of 2006. We didn't have as good of an experience as others. I think we literally had the worst room in the hotel. I looked on the fire escape plan, and it was certainly the smallest room possible. Good: proximity to metro, location in relation to other sites. (Near Las Ramblas, the Christopher Columbus Monument, part of the harbor) Bad: small room, heat didn't work, no hair dryer (used our own with converter and adapter that worked in other Spanish hotels, but we... more
Good Value Hotel
Having read some of the previous reviews we went to this hotel with some trepidation. Should not have worried. It was comfortable and clean and that is what you want. The staff were very friendly amd extremely helpful. Very close to Las Ramblas took us about 10 minutes to walk, and we were only strolling. Breakfast was not great but was adequate although some mornings it was a bit of a scrum, the Hotel needs to rethink the layout of the Buffet Bar. The Cafe/Bar at the hotel was ok but overpriced and the staff no too friendly. Use the... more
Good Choice in the centre of Barcelona
Friendly clean and comfortable. Not luxury by any means but very central and good value.
