Nov 2007, Mr M Reddington

The hotel is steeped in history being at the heart of Dublin's shopping district on O'Connell Street and even got a mention in James Joyce's book - Ulysses.
The lobby is certainly impressive with comfortably chairs to relax in and read papers with strong coffee. Being a 4 star hotel it does have a touch of elegance however given the £100 per night room charge we were disappointed with the room which showed signs of age and a very basic decor, other newly built hotels offered more in the way of finishing.
Would I recommend it to a friend? If you're look for location yes but the room decor could do with improved to live upto a £100 price tag.

we stayed at the Gresham Hotel for a 4 night break 27th-30th Dec.
We found this hotel to be extremely comfortable, just what we wanted. The rooms are very spacious and well decorated. The bathroom was lovely with both bath and shower.
The breakfast was buffet style with your tea, coffee and toast served to you. the food was hot and plentiful.
There are two bar areas within the hotel both really well furnished. The reception is bright and airy and the staff both efficient and friendly.
Dublin itself is a lovely city with beautiful museums and buildings. Enough shops to satisfy the most discerning shopper, from small local craft shops to the large department stores.
It is very easy to get around Dublin on foot but there is an excellent bus local bus service as well as the hop on and hop off buses which run every few minutes. These buses are a great way to get your bearings if you are only in Dublin for a couple of days.
You buy a ticket on the bus and it lasts for 24 hours. The beauty of these buses are that they take you to all the major attractions.(The guinness brewery is a must)
At night the temple Bar area is the place to be, OK it is touristy but the atmosphere is brilliant. My husband and I are both in our 50's and we loved it!
There are plenty of Restaurants to choose from for when you are feeling peckish from the local boxty house (excellent Irish fare) through to Italian, Chinese, Indian etc.
All in all the Gresham Hotel and Dublin was a fabulous short break, we cant wait to visit again.

Dublin was a refreshing break from...

Jan 2006, Ms J M Long

Dublin was a refreshing break from England at Christmas, especially now the no smoking laws apply to all public places. The Gresham Hotel gave us the quiet room with king-size bed we'd asked for. The staff were efficient, professional and friendly without being annoyingly bouncy.
Typical Dubliners, in fact. O'Connell Street was in the throes of major roadwork’s in preparation for the street to be a wide, pedestrianised boulevard, which will hopefully bring the quality of its shops and bars up to the higher standard found not far away towards and over the bridge. We took the excellent bus tour of the city which runs from just outside the hotel. A ticket lasts 24 hours, so you can hop on and off when you see something interesting. The National Museums were fabulous.
The pubs in Temple Bar were all too noisy and youthful, but with we managed to find smaller, more authentic places without too much bother. A few places were closed for Christmas, but one outstanding restaurant for us was Juice. Gorgeous vegetarian food and great house white!

Recently stayed at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin for three night’s mid-week. It’s located on O’Connell Street the main street in Dublin and so is ideally placed for every attraction and area you could want to visit. The hotel has a 4* rating and yet prices were comparable to some of the less salubrious hotels on offer!! The room was fantastic with a huge bed and a lovely bathroom. The staff were delightful to deal with and extremely helpful. Breakfast was included and was a very nice way to start the day. The restaurant situated in the hotel, 23, was incredible with a great wine list and a fantastic alternative menu for those on a tighter budget. Dublin itself is beautiful, with amazing attractions and wonderful restaurants. The temple bar area is lively although very touristy, but well worth a visit. Grafton Street has all the shops you could possibly need with a wide range of prices, especially with good deals in men’s clothes. Trinity college and the Guinness brewery are also well worth a visit. All in all the hotel and this wonderful city made our stay one of the most delightful short breaks I have ever had.
