Believe half of what you see and nothing that you hear....

"A warm and friendly welcome awaits you at the Mespil Hotel"
Has to be the greatest pile of rubbish i have ever read...as "warm and friendly" were anything but the welcoming we received upon our arrival here at the hotel... 1st off there seemed to have been a problem
with our booking when we arrived initially(as we booked the room via a third party booking company"Booking.Com") and the staff made us feel very uncomfortable during this ordeal by continuously laughing and sneering at us(blatantly mind u!)as if we were 2 lunatics that had just arrived from a mental asylum! one of the 2 foreign girls we had encountered was actually more insulting than the other 2 members of staff....in fact she was so irritating and we were so frustrated that we actually had to leave the premises for a brief moment whilst they were resolving the issue. This caused a lot of both embarrassment and upset (the latter nearly ruining our weekend)for myself and my girlfriend. In the end they had charged us €140 even tho the rooms were booked via "Booking.Com" earlier in the week for €118. thats €22 in the differnece (more then we were willing to pay for the entire stay at this stage) anyway to make a long story a little less longer we awoke the following morning to find that they actually had the cheek to put an envelope under the door refunding the €22 with nothing more then a new invoice....No letter of apology...not even a measly line or 2... I can honestly say we have spent the bones of at least €80 on taxis during our 2day stay just to get in and out of the city centre as there are no buses or trams for miles... The rooms are absolutely fine but the views were horrific and amenities are nothing to write home about....and to put the icing on the cake.... when i arrived home, to my surprise i recieved a letter in the post with the "mespil hotel" stamp on the front, curious i opened it think that maybe they had come to their senses and had written even a line or to of an explanation etc....only to discover it was a bill of €20 for 2 small breakfast's we had eaten 1 morning during our stay....i had to laugh at this stage.... Never, ever, again...
If we were to some it up in 3 words...Fake,Misleading,False...

Feb 2008, Miss J H

We (4 of us) went to Dublin for 3 nights and during our stay, the hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Also professional. The hotel was very nice and clean, family friendly. We had breakfast, which was good, but the chef was behind as soon as people started coming down in big-ish groups. The bacon tray was always empty...
During our stay, it rained all the time. We specificaly chose this hotel because on its website it sais it's not too long from the centre by foot. What a mistake! We got wet in the morning walking to the centre, then at night walking back. The rain made it really bad and difficult to nip to the hotel to get changed before dinner or night out. And taxi would cost 15 euros.
Over all, pleasant stay, but get your wallets ready!!!

This great Hotel. Have stayed here 3 times. It is a little out of the way but the setting is good. About a quarter of a mile walk up Baggart Street will get you to Grafton Street and the city centre.
The staff are very efficient and polite and the food is the best that I have had in any hotel that I have stayed.
Breakfast will fill you up for the day it is buffet style and cooked with as much as you can eat.
Make sure to get a room at the front of the hotel as this overlooks the Grand Canal and the Georgian houses in the west of the city.
Try a short break and you will sure to be back for a longer stay.

I stayed in this hotel on business...

Sep 2007, Mr G Forrest

I stayed in this hotel on business last year for a month.
The hotel is situated on a busy road that you can hear 24hrs a day. If you try to be relocated to the rear of the hotel, like I did several times, you'll hear the delivery lorries at 5am weekdays and then the car park at all times of the day and night and the air conditioning. Even on the 5th floor you'll hear staff conversations outside. It certainly is one of the noisiest hotels I've ever been in.
The rooms are OK but the walls are paper thin. You can hear next door having intimate phone calls and know what TV channel they are watching. Rooms are cleaned daily and are comfortable enough.
The staff are mostly East European so it is a nightmare trying to order dinner or a drink correctly. The food is pretty good though to be honest although a little pricey. Three course for about €21-25 (midweek specials menu).
Location wise, if you want the main nightlife, it is a fair distance away (about 30mins walk from Grafton St) and 40mins from O'Connell Street. There are a few nice restaurants and pubs around here if you want a chance but be warned the staff told me not to go down several surrounding streets at night so security wise it is a little scary.
I was stuck in this hotel as my company block booked for a month. I changed rooms about 6-7 times to get the one room away from lifts, roads, deliveries, etc. Not recommended if you want a quiet stay or shopping or nightlife. Rooms are about €70+ a night and for all the noise, area, etc it’s not worth it.

Very disappointing. The Hotel is sold as 3 stars but the room is 2 stars.
Toilet could not flush properly, room was not cleaned properly, and rubbish not picked up, used spoon not replaced.
We were asked to pay more than the original invoice but all was cleared when I showed the email confirmation (what if I did not have it?).
Hotel is 30min walk from O'Connell St and 20min from Grafton St, not that near when you are tired from sightseeing. Would not consider going again.

May 2007, Miss D Cattell

I took my boyfriend to Dublin as a Birthday present in March 2007 and booked the Mespil as we didn't want to be right in the centre of the city.
I got a fantastic deal on this hotel so wasn't really expecting too much, but we were pleasantly surprised.
The room was well equipped, spacious and clean. We had a room at the front - I would advise requesting this as you get a great view of the canal and cannot hear any noise from the bar downstairs.
We found the staff to be quite rude when we checked in but this did not spoil our stay.
The breakfast was brilliant - a huge selection of cooked breakfast, cereals, pastries, fruit juice and teas.
The hotel is roughly 15 mins walk from St Stephen's Green, but we did not find this a problem at all. It was actually quite nice to be slightly out of the way.
I would recommend this hotel if you are after a cheap break and don't mind a bit of a walk to get to the centre of the city.

It was a fabulous hotel staff excellent and helpful.
Nothing to much trouble gave lots of information about what we were looking to do while we stayed.
Very clean and a total credit to them all would stay again and enjoyed it very much.
