Hilton Istanbul

The Hilton is a nice hotel, but it is boring. If you draw the curtains in your room (obscuring the lovely view of the Bosporous) you could be anywhere. Plus, they nickel and dime you to death, the prices (if you are using dollars) are outrageous. At the Sirkeci Konak that I stayed at 2 weeks earlier, the internet access was complimentary and so was breakfast, at the Hilton I paid $8 for a cup of coffee and had to pay to use the internet too. The Hilton Hotel in Istanbul is a huge sixties tower situated close to Taksim Square in uptown Istanbul. It has precisely everything that you would expect from a large Hilton Hotel in a capital city and many of its facilities and services are exceptionally good. Service is friendly and solicitous and the cost of staying here seems to be typical of high end hotels in Istanbul, that is to say astronomical. No complaints, if you're a Hilton regular, then this is average or slightly above for your expectations and delivers all the goods. It's a very popular hotel and if you manage to get a room overlooking the Bosphorus, be thankful. This view is available to half the hotel's guests, but none of our travelling party of 3 colleagues struck it lucky. Plaudits for a great early check-in (0730!). I stayed here in 3 nights in March for a work conference. I was given a quite large room over looking the Bosphoros. I must say it was a nice view. The hotel facilities were all fine, everything worked well. My room was comfortable and I had no complaints. The conference facilities were also great. I have stayed at the Hyatt across the road before and although Hilton isn't as posh as Hyatt, it was still fairly nice. Perhaps next time I'll check out the new W hotel...

The service is top. The staff are extremely pro-active, trying to anticipate your needs. The view is good, but the Swissotel has better view. Also, make sure you do not get garden view. Food is top, very spacious hotel. Healthclub is great. Maybe not the most modern, but very classy. Centrally located, but quiet. Go there!

This is simply the best hotel in Istanbul. Hilton has received strong competion from addtions such as the Ritz-Carlton and the Four Seasons, but at rates nearly twice as much as the Hilton, it is not worth the extra charge. The Hilton is a world class hotel, decorated to honor the city. The hotel offers all of the comforts you would expect from a five star hotel.

This is a proper 5 star hotel. Not some 4 star with bits bolted on to get the extra star. I stayed for a sight-seeing break for six nights over new year 2007/8 and found the Hilton to be what I would expect in every respect. Very helpful consierge who talked us through our sight-seeing plans. Surprisingly strong security (all cars are checked on entering and exiting the hotel) and guests walk through an airport style security scanner. We truly enjoyed our stay at the HIlton Istanbul. We were upgraded to an executive room upon our arrive. The room was great and very spacious. Our King Size bed was a true king bed and not two doubles pushed together. We had a lounge chair, a balcony overlooking the hotel courtyard and desk. The TV offered plenty of channels in English (not just the usual CNN and BBC world). Breakfast was typical Hilton Breakfast. We had one breakfast at the restaurant and one in the Executive lounge. I stayed at thsi hotel for 7nights as part of a business trip. Check in was efficient and room was a very good size. I was disappointed that the 'king bed' was actually two beds pushed together and made with a king bottom sheet but two single duvets. I ate in the buffet restaurant once for dinner, very average. Room service was good and prompt. The roof top bar has plesant views but drinks are costly. Didn't actually eat there as it was full on the two occassions I tried. Stayed here for 11 nights on a business trip and paid EUR 140 per night. Had a city view room with rather standard 5 star amenities. Nothing special. TV was not tuned right. What annoyed me was the noisyness of the rooms, both from next door as from the corridor. Every conversation could be heard, not to mention the tv. Slept badly during 4 noisy nights out of eleven. Also I do not understand why they have to charge EUR 6.- (YTL 10.-) for a cup of tea in a country where you usually get tea for free. I always feel robbed having to pay... more
