We arrived at the Ouratlantico at 11am after travelling since 3am and was told our room was not ready until 1pm. But after the initial moan and groan we got on with what we had, the studio was clean although the area around the pool left a lot to be desired. I found the... more

Great Location, basic accomodation
Just got back from a 2 week stay at club Ouratlantico. We went with 2 small children and our friends and there 8 year old daughter. We had a 2.30 am start from uk so were a little put out that we had a wait of 3 hours for our room to be ready at 2 pm as with 2 ratty toddlers, it was somewhat hard work. When we got in our rooms we had a duplex apartment spanning over 2nd and 3rd floors, it had 3 balconies - 2 of which were off the top floor bedroom. The accomodation was clean but basic and in need of some modernising but overall satisfactory for what you need. One word of warning is think twice if you are going with small children or have walking difficulties as the stairs are steep and winding and made of concrete and tiles and this proved a nightmare for us having two clumsy toddlers. There were numerous issues when we first got in like the cot was broken on one side which ment or youngest could get out and head for the stairs and also the patio door handle came off completeley making the door unshuttable and unlockable, as well as other minor stuff. It has to be said that the complaints were dealt with promptly and all the issues resolved within a couple of hours. Most of the reception staff were really friendly and helpful, one in particular however was totally oppposite. There is also a problem on site with numerous stray cats congregating due to people feeding them, around 4 cats we noticed and one scratched our 4 year old on the arm - to be fair he went to stroke the cat on the way to the toilet otherwise it would have left him alone- but even so just be warned if you have young children that dont know an better. The location of the apartments is superb, so close to everything yet so far away as not to be disturbed at night. If you go left out of the apartments you have Mangelloes which did nice meals and some lovely bars further along the road. when you come to a roundabout turn left again and along this road you have a big supermarket that stocks everything and 10 mins up the road on the right hand side you have Eduardos- a superb family run restaurant, at excellent prices with everything freshly cooked- we ate there 5 times it was so good. To the right out of the apartments you have a few minutes stroll to the strip which again does some beautiful food but is a little more expensive. We had a lovely Indian meal at the Great India Tandoori which did the best prawn Puri ever tasted. Praia D'Oura beach was lovely and Santa Eulalie Beach to the left even better. Beaches all really clean, no litter etc. Only downside is the sea sometimes too rough for little ones but fab for the older ones who like to play in the big waves. Overall we had an excellent holiday and i would definately go back to this resort and i would stay in the same area, i would not choose to stay in the same apartments due to the ages of my children and the stairs being an issue but if i was sent there on an allocation on arrival deal then i would not be gutted.
Great apartments for those on a budget.
My partner and I stayed at Ouratlantico Apartments on May 19th 2007 for 11 days. This was our second time in Alberfeira so we knew what to expect. Overall we were very pleased with the accomodation, it was spotlessly clean, and the maids came in every other day if you wished. Although basic and possibly in need of a slight update here and there we were quite happy with the apartment but spent most of our time out; I don't think these places are designed for homely comforts and so wouldn't be too good if you spent a lot of time in them. The kitchen was functional, but very basic - we didn't cook in ours at all, but I would imagine you could rustle up a reasonable meal for 4 if you wanted to. Reception staff were very helpful; we had a plug socket in the kitchen which wasn't working and after reporting it, it was fixed within a couple of hours. The TV with Sky News, BBC1 & 2 was very helpful and killed some time (ITV with no sound though, reception said it couldn't be helped) as we were blessed with miserable weather for about 5 days and stayed in for a couple of afternoons. The overall layout of the site is quite nice, our apartment was on the upper level with kitchen/lounge/diner on the lower floor with small balcony overlooking the pool, upper floor with a 2 single beds room and bathroom/shower with large-ish balcony to front overlooking pool and small balcony to the rear - effectively if you didn't even leave the hotel you could sunbath in privacy all day by following the sun around the building! This I found to be a bonus during the last 3 hot days we were there as the pool area was packed, with no spare sunbeds. The only downside's I found were that it specifies that you are not allowed to reserve sunbeds, this was ignored and every morning 50% of beds had towels on them by 8am. The hotel didn't seem to be bothered - but I was sorely tempted to go out early and throw them all in the pool :) The Stair's...I wouldn't advise anyone with very small children, very elderly or anyone who has a problem climbing staying in one of the 2nd floor ones as the interior apartment stairs are quite winding and steep. Also very hard beds and cotton wool ball pillows, but I think this is standard in Portugal! Avoid the Time Share sellers!!! You will find them at either end of The Strip and in the Old Town - they will try and get you to take a ticket out of a bag for a prize or give you a scratch card - tell them NO! It is all a big scam and no matter what they tell you that you have won it is a con - we know because we were sucked in on our 2nd day there and wasted an entire morning and afternoon with them. Best bits...a very short walk from the strip (out of the apartments, turn right) very close to Oura (turn left). Try Mangello's (last on the small parade of shops, left out of apartments) we went there on numorous occasions during our 11 days and I have to say the staff made our holiday - they were excellent, the food is very good and the service 100%, they made us feel very welcome. Also try Oura Bar which is further along the road in the next parade of shops and restaurants (its tucked down below road level) it doesn't look much and is very small but the staff (Dario the boss and Bella) are great - we had some really nice nights there. Overall we had a smashing holiday and we would go back to Ouratlantico, it is very good value if your not expecting 5*. Enjoy.
Club Ouratlantico, Praia D'Oura
Hi, we just got back today from a week at the Club Ouratlantico in Praia D'Oura (28th April 07). Lovely week it was too! Weather was hot, mostly dry (no daytime rain), some breeze a couple of days, otherwise superb. This hotel is clean, friendly, well laid out, staff are smiley & helpful, pools are clean what more can you ask? Our ground floor studio room was airy, spacious and well equipped. Full domestic cooker, not your 2 ring job, fridge, microwave, heater, crockery, pots etc, bath with shower over, loo, bidet, basin, patio furniture & clothes horse. The towels were changed 3 times, the room was cleaned every day except one, the gardens were tended daily and sooo neat and tidy, all the Boganvillea in flower and neatly trimmed. No enquiry was fobbed off, everyone was so helpful. Only criticism, if you could call it that, there was no mirror in the main room only the bathroom. My hair goes curly in the damp so I had to go out & get a mirror. We did encounter a LOT of timeshare touts & locals selling "Rolex" watches & cheap fags! They were a pain but we developed that icey forward stare and pretty much ignored them all week, they were persistent & we had to get quite terse, some poor folk did get suckered in though!! Good selection of shops, bars & excellent restaurants. El Rancho (on the strip) & Vivaldos (on the sea front) were particularly worth a visit. Not the cheapest but certainly the best quality meals. So many great beaches to choose from, all with little cafes, soft sand & beach loungers/umbrellas. All in all I can recommend this hotel & resort as one I would go back to in a heartbeat!
Good but disappointing
We are a family of four with 2 boys aged 4 and 2 and stayed at Ouratlantico at the end of March/early Easter. The apartment had plenty of space, was very clean, and was within walking distance of restaurants and a lovely beach, but could have been better. The kitchen should have had more than just four plates, four dishes, four items of cutlery, and did not have enough pans, etc for a family that didn't want to eat out every night. The bed in the living room was inadequate for adults to share (with kids going to bed earlier the upstairs bedroom had to be for them) - the pull out bit was much lower than the sofa part, and with reception unwilling to do anything we moved one of the beds down from upstairs to make it almost acceptable. The indoor pool was very welcome early in the season, although it was only really warm enough on one occasion out of three. With a bit more effort it could have been really good.
Nothing Special!
Booked these apartments through the good reviews on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately what I failed to read from the information is actually what a boring complex it is. I went with a 12 & 13 year old in February and unfortunately went down with gastric flu 4 days into the holiday. Staying in bed meant the children absolutely died of boredom as there was nothing to do close by. The outdoor pool was obviously freezing, the indoor pool was absolutely tiny, but usable if the showers had had hot water. The indoor jacuzzi was absolutely filthy. The complex itself was clean, tidy and pretty, but during the winter full of long stay OAP's (as was most of the Algarve). Only the table tennis was free - pool was 2 euro, internet access was chargeable, the sauna was 8 euro and tennis was 10 euro. Apartments are very close to the strip and only a 5 minute walk to the beach. If I went again I would book the Clube Praia Da Oura across the road - it was right on the beach and had a huge entertainment programme all year round - so at least in case of emergencies, there would be something for the children to do.
Superb
Myself and my partner stayed in these apartments in May, and i would find it hard to fault them. Very spacious, duplex in style, 3 balconies, towels and linen changed 3 times during the week. Locaion is perfect, although very central, they are extremelly quiet at night time. Short walk to the beach and the "strip". Slighlty more of a distance to the old town, but well worth a visit. No problems hiring a car from reception and after shopping around, they were able to compete with any price. I would recomend these apartments to familys and couples alike. Would go back in a flash!
Fantastic holiday!!!
What a fantastic place! For the price we paid my friend and I expected fairly basic accomodation and not a lot else. We were pleasantly surprised. Our studio was large with plenty of wardrobe place and hangers. The kitchen was adequate for us to be able to cook some meals. The people were really friendly, staff and guests. Pool area fantastic and fairly quiet when we went. There was never any trouble getting a sunbed. There was an indoor pool and jacuzzi which we used first thing on a morning before the sun had chance to hit the outdoor pool. It is about 5 minutes walk if that to the nightlife but the appartments are really quiet and tucked away so you get the best of both worlds. I would definitely return to this hotel.
Family holiday recommendation
We have just come back from a great week at the Ouraltantico Apartments. We had a first floor, one bedroomed apartment - it was on two levels kitchen, lounge and pull out sofa bed, shady balcony on the first floor, twin bedrooom, bathroom and two balconcies on second floor - one balcony was a good size and got afternoon sun, the other the morning sun!! No air-con - but we didn't need it anyway All the apartments faced inwards towards the pool and gardens which is good. The apartment complex itself was quiet both during the day and night. Outdoor Pool was freezing !! Indoor pool was warm, basic, not huge but great asset in April!! Staff were helpful & polite. Bar food was more expensive than local restaurants - limited menu but nice. On-site supermarket is small, limited and more expensive than others. Best Supermarket was 2 mins walk away. Turn to your left out of the complex gates, cross the road, towards the big 'Club Praia D'oura' complex, the supermarket is part of this complex. This is also the best way to the beach - through the Club Praia D'Oura grounds. Area around the complex is not very nice looking, but this is not seen once in the complex. Best Restaurants we found were - 'Mangellos' - turn left outside complex gates - it is literally the third shop front along - very friendly, good food, and made a fuss of the children!! . Vadillos - Praia D'Oura seafront restaurant - nice food, fantastic view. Beaches are lovely - sandy, little caves and coves - our children spent hours exploring and Mummy & Daddy got some sunbathing in !! - who could ask for more!! Would definiately recommend for an early/ late break - but it could be very different in high season
Great Complex
My family stayed for a week at the Ouratlantico Apartments during the Easter break & we had a fantastic time. Positive Points - Clean & Tidy Excellent Location (close to the beech & the main strip) Friendly & Helpful Staff Negative Points - Did get a bit noisey some night with the refuse collection lorry - Hot water cylinder was on the small side so showers/baths have to be taken in between the water getting hot I would highly recommend
Excellent Resort
We stayed at the Ouratlantico from April 4 - 11/06. Had a fantastic time. At first when you pull up to the hotel it doesn't look like much, but once you get into the complex you find it quite nice and very clean. The pool area is the first thing you see and its spotless, and very pretty with huge palm trees and pretty flowering plants climbing up terraces, its all very lovely. We had a second floor apartment, which was quite nice, the bedroom being up another flight of stairs was ok for us, but older people might want one of the main floor rooms. We had 3 balconies 2 overlooking the pool and one facing the tennis courts. We do intend on going back but next time we will ask for a main floor room next time, they just look nicer and closer to the pool. I pulled a muscle in my back the 2nd day there and the stairs were a killer for the next 2 days. The location is the BEST. So close to everything. 2 minutes walk from the strip, 5 minutes walk to Praia da oura beach, 10 minutes walk to Santa Eulalia Beach and about a 25 minutes walk to the old town. We walked where ever we went and never found it tiresome at all. All in all we loved Ouratlantico and can't wait to come back again. See you soon Ouratlantico :-)
