The hotel was nice and clean and the staff very friendly. Each room has it's own balcony. There is a charge of 5 euros per night for air con if you want to use it. There wasn't an iron in the room but reception were happy to lend us one. The bar is open until late and they... more

Camari Gardens is in a great spot for the gorgeous lively Rethymnon and the quiet beaches and tavernas of Georgioupolis. Situated about 10 minutes drive from Rethymnon ($8 Euros in a taxi) and about 20 mins from Georgioupolis ($15 Euros in a cab) it nestles into a hill side... more

These apartments are ideal if you’re prepared to hire a car and explore the island (which i recommend). It's an ideal location to drive over to the south coast and see some beautiful (if not tough to get to) beaches. In the evening you can get a taxi for 8 euros into... more

If you want peace and tranquility in a lovely setting, Camari Gardens is the place for you. The only drawback is that if you want a bit of life, or just a stroll in the evenings, the Camari Gardens are in an isolated position. There are no tourist facilities nearby, not... more

Camari Garden (or home as I call it!)
Having returned from my second visit of the year to Camari I find myself wishing I was back there permanently! The hospitality of the Nikolakakis family is second to none and over the past six years and many visits I have only wonderful memories of the place and everyone who works there. It never fails to surprise me that everyone who goes to Camari Garden wants to return again and again to sample their warmth and kindness. If you're looking for a holiday where you feel more like a member of the family than just a customer, then this place should not be missed. It is and always will be like home to me and my family.
Superb!
Absolutely fantastic! The friendliest place I have ever stayed. Ideal if you are looking for a quiet relaxing holiday. There is a wonderful view and lovely food served at the restaurant.
Wanna go back! Wanna go back!
Booking late can be risky, having never been to Crete, but we got it right this time. The Camari Gardens have given us one of the best holidays we have had in many years. Great rooms, excellent food and some of the friendliest staff you will ever encounter. I know all the brochures talk of ' family run hotels' and 'welcoming atmosphere', but in this case they are spot on. Being out on the quiet side of Rethymnon is a definate plus, but if you do need to go into town, the staff will book you a taxi (7 Euros and about 10 minutes) or you can catch the local bus. The village of Gerani is up the hill (fair old hill in the heat) and well worth visiting. We only had a week, but we will return. Thanks Angela, Nico, George, Spike, Mikaeli and all the staff. P.S. Try the fried aubergines with tomato & cheese.
The Village
We will be returning to camari gardens for the third time next year, we have always recived a warm welcome each time we have arrived. The familly who run Cammari are wonderfull, friendly and genuine people. The small bay down the bottom of the hill is great for just sitting and relaxing while "trying" to catch some fish which this year was my most succsesful catching one whole fish. I would also highly recomend a trip up to the villiage of Gerani just a few minuets away. The people in the village are also as friendy as the familly. There are many small bars run by people one of which speaks very good english and loves to chat to people, A second trip at night is also essential to get the whole greek atmosphere.
Camari Gardens- 'Thats the one'. in 'Crete'.
Camari has been our holiday destination for many years now. Why? Well its the best there is if you want relaxasion and a friendly atmosphere in one of the best area's Crete has to offer (and it has many lovely area's). The complex is run by the most wonderfull family (yes I am talking about you Angela, you George you Nik you Alexis and of course you Themis and all your wonderfull staff who we have become friends with over the years). PS. The 'Camari' appears to have changed travel agents recently, can anybody assist me with whom to book with now.We are desperate to get a booking for 2005. Many thanks.
Camari is my Cretan home from home!!!
Wow!!!! I’ve just been reading all the wonderful things that people have been writing about this place and I have to say that absolutely every one of them is true and I think that they are a credit to the hard work that the Nikolakakis family put in to the place. I have been to Camari Gardens 8 times in as many years and I have loved every minute of each visit. I was 15 on my first visit and now I’m 23 and all my holidays there have been with family and friends and I must say that my friends are actually people my family and myself have made bonds with while staying there. So, I can guarantee that Camari is a great place for being sociable and meeting people in a safe friendly environment. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and comfortable, the complex is beautiful, quiet, relaxing and safe. Also, the family really are as fantastic as everyone has said they are. They make you feel so welcome whether it is your first visit or your 8th, it does not matter and be sure they will do as much as they can to make your holiday fantastic. If the comments on tripadvisor have not quite helped you make up your mind about paying a visit to Camari yourself I suggest you check out the website ---camarigarden--- because there are some more wonderful comments about the apartments there and some fantastic images of the complex. I rate Camari as 5* accommodation. FANTASTIC!
Brilliant !
This place is wonderful. The family who run it are nicest, friendliest people you could meet. Nothing is too much to ask. The apartments are great, kept really clean and provide everything you could want including Air conditioning. It's a nice quiet place, a haven to retreat to, but it has been known to get lively in the evening - great fun is had by all. Great for families - very safe. I don't ususally return to the same place twice but this will be my fourth time. I know many others who do the same. It's even easier to book now, as you can do it direct - go to their website ------------
Simply The Best
When I decided to write this recommendation I thought it would be quite easy with all the superlative words available to us through the modern media. However, I find myself struggling to describe not only how I, and my family feel about the Camari Gardens but also how the many friends we have made since we began visiting Camari in 1996 feel about the place. Eight visits in as many years speaks volumes for the surroundings, the staff and all the members of the family who go to extraordinary lengths to make old and new guests feel so welcome, nothing is too much trouble for them. From the minute you walk up the famous Camari Garden steps you are treated like a member of the Nikolakakis family. The complex has a light and friendly atmosphere where quiet moments can be enjoyed with loved ones, friends or acquaintances taking in some of the superb views the accommodation offers whilst perhaps enjoying the odd glass of cooling beer or maybe an Ouzo or Raki. Livelier times can be found in the bar if you fancy some impromptu entertainment. The accommodation is furnished to a reasonable standard with decorations maintained to a very high standard and spotlessly clean which complements the whole complex. If you are looking for a relaxing, laidback type of holiday Camari will provide you with everything and more than you want. You can stroll up the hill (not to be done in the heat of the day) and visit the local village of Gerani and taste the flavour of a typical Cretan Village and its way of life, on the other hand take a 5 minute stroll down the hill to the rocky cove, visit the taverna, have a drink, (not too many as it can be a long walk back up the hill) or maybe a meal and admire the wonderful sea views. A short bus or taxi ride will take you into Rethymno, here you will be able to experience both old and modern Grecian life, the old part of the town with its narrow streets provides hours of entertainment with a wide range of architecture, shops, street entertainers and tavernas. If on the other hand you want to be a little more adventurous hire a car. Crete has some spectacular scenery, long sandy beaches, small secluded coves, bustling cities like Heraklion and Chania both within 90 minutes drive. The west side of the island is only and hours drive away through the mountains. Camari is the ideal base for exploring. Fortunately we have been able to visit mainland Greece and plenty of the islands whilst being able to return to the Camari Gardens year on year. We find ourselves comparing everywhere to the Camari Gardens for, service, atmosphere, friendliness, cleanliness, good food, and hosts that make you feel wanted, part of a family, the Camari Garden family. As I began, there are plenty of superlatives available, ‘great, mega, fantastic, superb’ but in our eyes Camari Garden is “ Simply The Best”
