Dover Beach Hotel reviews
Jun 2004, juliot5
It was our honeymoon, and 10 days before we were due to leave Airtours cancelled our holiday over a dispute with the people who owned the accommodation. They were very unhelpful and I had to really kick and scream to get anywhere. Eventually, after much hard work I have to... more

Average apartment hotel in a good location
from EDFHealthSectorProg
We use the hotel for lodging our international consultants from Europe. We have used around 100 room days so far this year. For the cost the hotel is acceptable. It is on the seas side, and on The Gap, which is the premier entertainment strip for Barbados. The beach is fantastic. Barbados is not yet a developed country, so everything needs to be seen in context. The location is excellent and the hotel owner, Jeff, is spending a lot of money to upgrade the hotel. As with most apartment hotels, the hotel owners do not...

Dover Beach Hotel
from MariaRothwell
The hotel is really dated lots of renovation going on so quite noisy, we stayed in the so called de-lux suite, which was quite a large room but the taps leaked constantly, the air condioning made a racket and the patio door wouldn't lock properly and we were on the ground floor! However the beach is beautiful and quiet and it's in a good location just off 'The Gap.' The local 'hustlers' will come up to your patio trying to sell aloe vera, massages etc but just be firm and they'll go away.. Loved the island though, I'll be returning next...

Basic hotel, but the sea view was wonderful
from Nay164
We stayed in a sea view studio room. I think our room was in need of some decoration and TLC but on the plus side, we had a TV, aircon and well equipped kitchenette. Our balcony over looked the pool area and we had a lovely sea view as the hotel is on a quiet beach. Although the main hotel and some of the rooms are in need of a bit of TLC, the staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel was in a good locaiton for St Lawrence Gap and again the quiet pool area and sew views made up for the quality of the building. I think they are in...

Very very disapointed
from A TripAdvisor Member
When I arrived at Dover beach I felt like crying, the reception is like a reception for a homeless hostel. We were told to wait in the reception area, my garage was better than this and I wouldn't let my dog live in there. Anyway we were taken to our room which was not in the same block as the reception it was in the block opposite, the door to our room had glass pannels all over it, and didnt look secure at all, we walked in our room and instantly thought there is no chance we are staying here, it was very old and run down. We called our...

Great value- would come back
from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a great stay at the Dover. The price was just right, the beach and pool were lovely. The room we had was nice, although it looked like some rooms were better than others. Those facing the pool were under constuction and seemed a bit dingy. Ask to see your room before checking in. The location was not as central as some other hotels; the main St Lawrence Gap area is where the action is at, and its about a 5-8 minute walk up the road. But the Beach at Dover was quieter and a bit wavier ( for those who like to bodyboard)....

great launchpad to the Gap
from A TripAdvisor Member
Me & a buddy decided last minute to head over to Barbados this past weekend and check it out- we booked Dover Beach just one day before. We got in Friday night, and the hotel is situated at the bottom (East) end of the gap- a mini mart is 2 minutes away, and all the ritzy hotels and bars and restaurants follow thereafter; everything in the Gap is walkable, so don't fall for the cabbies outrageous prices. Getting around was great- the staff showed us the way to the main road so we could hop a (reggae) bus for $1.50BDS to the...

what a dump
from studmuffinswife
We went to the Dover beach in November 2004 for two weeks taking our 19 year old son and his friend, we chose this resort for the bars, nightlife and restaurants and we were not dissapointed with the quality of these however the hotel and resort area leave a lot to be desired. Considering there is a lot of money going into Barbados in the way of tourism we were very dissapointed in the standard of the island in general. The worst thing about our stay however has to be the Dover Beach Hotel as it is disgusting. The rooms were in an apalling...

my partner and i stayed at dover beach in september 04 just after the hurricanes. On arrival i thought oh my god where are we staying we were allocated a garden room but decided to upgrade to a sea view and from that point on the stay got better and better, we had a view to die for over looking the pool and the sandy beach, the rooms are basic but have every thing you require and the air conditioning really worked.....A maid came in every day with clean towels and the floors were washed daily.and they didn't mind if you wanted them to come...

I first took my husband to visit Barbados in July 3, 1999 We really enjoyed our stay at Dover Beach. They were renovating. In those days we got a BWEE vacation package and were advised by our airline assistant that that was the top spot to go if you needed to have a really good vacation. We still have pictures of our rooms which we show to friends. Just this year on the 23th February, we advised some friends from Miami to visit Barbados and share the friendly ambiance of the country. Sadly though they were unable to stay Dover Beach...
