Submitted By: Mrs N J SainsburyThe hotel are so short staffed its unbeliverable expecting them to be happy would be an impossible task for anyone however i lovely girl from moldova could achieve this during her training, i explained i guess it is good experiance for you to see how a hotel is run with total disorganisation. The chinese was amazing why?A clean table service with a smile, its a shock to of had that service as normally you would of had dirty tables and no where to sit in the other resturants. You would have to wait for at least half an hour for a drink. That was to long in the over packed resturant the food was very cold even when you went in when the doors were open.
The ltalian resturant was very bad and you had the company of the chef smoking in the resturant watching you eat very 5 star not. However the maid was excellent the rooms were good and a nice pool as we got moved with a private pool. Still wanted to move hotels. If you want an excellent 5 star in crete go to the hotel Aldemar amazing so i here.
All inclusive not really just one type of beer but drink quick because you pay after 11pm. AND IF YOU WERE EXPECTING A BEACH RESORT YOU GOT IT YES TO LOOK AT YOU COULDNT EVEN GET IN THE BEACH?? I ASW WHATEVER.
Please if you want 2 star go but if you need to relax you wont beable to unless you avoid stressful staff. Dont want to be negative but dont want people to be in a position of disapointment.

Submitted By: Miss C JamesI have read several bad reviews of this resort and really would like to point out that its not that bad! The only complaint I would have is that if you dont have children the childrens entertainment in the evening can be a bit loud, but it only goes on for an hour or two and you cant hear it at the other bars. I would really recommend this resort if you just want toi get away and relax in the sun without any chavs and hassels!! The usual 'brits abroad' are absent and its def not a resort suited to that kind of thing as its in the middle of no where. You can walk to a nearby fishing village which has a couple of
bars and small restaurants and again really friendly locals, this takes about 20 mins max.
Overall would definatly recomend this resort and im sure we will go back and after staying in other 4 & 5* hotels would definatly place it in this catergory.

Submitted By: Mr WILLIAM McLEODThe food served was more like what you would expect in a two-star hotel. Water, which was bottled, had to be paid for. When asked why was it not policy to have a jug of water placed on the table, the restaurant manager became verbally aggressive. I told him that I expected to have the basic element required to sustain life, payment free!!! Not so at this resort. They had a captive "audience".
The restaurant staff were less than friendly, in fact I would go as far as to say, very rude. The staff at this resort would have been better employed as actors in the TV series "Fawlty Towers"!!!
We found a very friendly Taverna in Milatos, which was within walking distance of the resort. Staying at this resort does require the hire of a car.
This was my first experience at this resort and the last. I have travelled all over the world and stayed in 5-star hotels - this should be at the most a 2-star.

Submitted By: duffyIt was brilliant.
Food was great, had a Chinese and Italian restaurant which AI were allowed 1 visit each, staff were lovely and the hotel is lovely.
Only drawback is the nearest town is Sissi and it is about an hour walk or 15 Euros by taxi, can’t wait to go back

Submitted By: Mr K SleethThe Grand Blue Theme Restaurant which is Terracotta by the way, was no better than 2 Star, you are recommended by the hotel not visit the restaurant during the busy periods. Don't go after because there is nothing left.
Food is very average, dirty crockery, glass's etc left lying around and left over food emptied into bins in the restaurant area in full view whilst you are eating. Hygiene is bad and at the outdoor bars we had drinks served with wasps in them on several occasions.
Over priced over rated, definitely not 5 Star.

Submitted By: Mrs S MichaelUpon arrival at the hotel we were greeted by the a most friendly member of the reception staff who checked us in swiftly and gave us as much info as possible and informed us that they had kept the restaurant open for us (we didn’t arrive at the hotel until 23.45 so this was totally unexpected!).
Once we had checked in our luggage was taken for us by the porter straight to our room. We had been given a VIP suite (upgraded!) and upon entry was amazed at how big and clean the room was. We had two bathrooms and 2 separate sleeping areas with a large balcony that overlooked the sea. The rooms had all you could want i.e. tea and coffee making facilities, 2 televisions with international sky, plenty on wardrobes space and loads of towels for our use too.
I cannot explain to you how good the maids are at this hotel-they keep it immaculate and everyday even arranged my daughters nightie into a different arrangement on the bed everyday.
The food in the hotel is good-don’t get me wrong it is not ala carte every night but there is plenty to chose from inc salads, fish, chicken etc, there is plenty to chose form and you cant find anything that you like then you must be extremely picky!
You have waiter service at the tables for drinks and with the all inc can have as much as you like. The Chinese restaurant is absolutely amazing and I had probably the nicest meal here, again plenty to chose from and cooked fresh (you can see the chef cooking it from where you are sat). What I thought was nice is that is was actually a Chinese person cooking it rather that a Greek chef.
The Italian restaurant again in fantastic, you get 5 courses and the only problem I had was that they brought the courses out a bit too quick, I was stuffed!
If you are all inc then you can use the Italian and Chinese once per stay. We went to the bbq night on the Wednesday and I must say I thought it was a bit of a rip off! You paid something like 19 euros pp for this and again the food was great but as we were already all inc I don’t think you should pay for the privilege of eating the food by the pool. They did have entertainment though so I suppose it isn’t all that bad really; Greek dancing, plate smashing and a firework display.
The drinks are good on All inc too-you actually get glasses and not plastic cups! The pool areas are stunning and again if you can’t find a pool that you like then you have a problem! There are plenty to chose from. We stayed at the animation pool and it was great. There are adult only pools too so there really is something for everyone. The beach is nice too, gorgeous clear sea and you can even go fishing (but a little net from the hotel shop and take a plastic cup from the bar). It is pebbly but as long as you wear flip flops you are ok! Again plenty of sun bed/Umbrellas etc. The hotel is quite hilly in places but if you do have walking difficulties just call reception and they will send the golf cart to pick you up. Nothing is too much trouble.
The one gripe I did have is the entertainment, it’s not good, unless you are German. They have a kids disco but they are mostly foreign songs, the shows aren’t that good either, we were laughing at then and not with them!
All in all this hotel is more like a 4 star really, you have to remember thought standards in Greece and completely different to our ratings. If you want a hotel to get away from it all in lovely surrounding then this is the place to be if you are looking for a lively hotel then go to Malia!

Submitted By: Mrs K BowdenSince our first visit they have built new accommodation which is absolutely fantastic with indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, plasma televisions etc. The complex is spacious and spotless, cleanliness seemed to be of their top priorities with maids cleaning from dawn to dusk.
We stayed on an all inclusive basis which was very good value for money. Plenty of swimming pools one of which is specially designed for children with a large boat and mini water slide in the pool. All of the restaurants serve excellent food and staff go out of their way to help you. One point you will need to hire a car if you want to visit the island.
Wonderful relaxing holiday. We have never been to the same place for the third time but we will be going back!

Submitted By: Mr D RichardsonI booked what was described both on their website and verbally by the sales staff as a luxury 5* hotel with spa.
The level of service and the whole experience were absolutely appalling and never in a million years can this be described as a 5* luxury hotel. Sunstar say Greek standard is different, I beg to differ having stayed in correctly categorised 5* in Greece. To give an idea of how frugal and unhygienic they were, any part used bottled water from tables was saved, then they would fill carafes up for the so called SPECIAL restaurant downstairs. Not really surprised now that 6 days were spent with food poisoning.
Major problems were:
Rudeness by most of staff.
Same food every meal time and substandard for a 3* let alone 5 allowed a special meal once a week in poolside restaurant. Described as a superb 4 course fish speciality, when I tried to give my cutlery back after the first course the waiter placed it back for my remaining courses!
Hotel and accommodation in need of repair and a good clean.
Broken unlit paths back to our room.
Sunstar misleading over late checkouts and in reality this was a 13 night holiday costing us a 100 euros for late check out.
Trying to phone Sunstar for assistance back in UK ( as no local rep was available for the 2 weeks ) they didn’t even call back and left us to check travel back to the airport if we hadn’t we would be still there waiting for Sunstar to do so.
They cannot be allowed to carry on this way. Not to sound pompous but if you have not been to a 5* hotel I can see how some have left positive comments but I would defy anyone to give a positive review on The Minos Imperial Luxury Beach Resort or SUNSTAR LEISURE.

Submitted By: Mrs C.m.s. WhiteheadVery multi national and all guests seemed very nice - we were very comfortable with the multi-lingual aspect. Much care given to younger children with excellent facilities (high chairs, play areas, special paddling pool with lots to do etc). Not so much for bigger kids - though perhaps not necessary. Ours spent hours on the ping pong table playing with German and French kids - no words needed just batting ability. Worth hiring the car and speeding off into Cretan villages for a change from all the polished marble, red carpet and chandeliers - all cleaners very cheery.
Some of the restaurant staff grumpy - but we all have bad days. Don't need to visit again, but I'm glad I’ve stayed there and had the pleasure of walking through the glass doors into the 'film-set' reception area - it was a great experience.

Lots of little things were a problem for us, like faulty safe, a bin that didn’t open, broken light bulb, etc etc they are annoying and don’t give the impression of 5 star service. Another holidaymaker had her laundry ruined twice and was never compensated. Another pair were asked to move to another room halfway through their stay due to an admin mix-up. As I said, lots of little annoying things that went wrong or were faulty make the place one to avoid in my book.
<br>
Finally, don’t expect a beach. There is a muddy sand flat about 500m long walled in by a hideous concrete barrier that could be construed as a beach, but you are better off in Malia or Stalis for beaches and some life.

Overall, I felt trapped and remote in this place. The service was so-so and facilities less than 5 star.

So reading the reviews about the Minos Imperial was like water off a ducks back....
On arrival to the hotel i thought mmm the reviews are wrong again, the hotel had beatifaul settings with plenty of pools. the room was very basic but spacy.
Please be care full when booking as if you arrive at ODD times as some people arrived at 4 am in the morning and they could not have their room until 12 noon unless they paid £100.00 to get it earlier. If you leave late at night to keep keep your room on this charge is the same.
We then went to breakfast and noticed the VIP breakfast room and the main restaurant. We were pushed straight into the main restaurant which was like walking into a huge cattle market. there where ques every where no tables it was boiling hot with very few staff.
The food was just cold, and not one member of staff said good morning. the Manager stood their like a head teacher doing nothing but shouting at the staff.
The 2 tier system was lower class yellow bands and upper class black bands. if you had a black band you where a little better off than those with yellow, but just paid a lot more money.
Yellow bands_ no drinks in the room, you can only book one of the 2 a la carte restaurants per week. lunch available is the main buffet restaurant only unless you pay for snacks in the italian a Pizza is about £12.00. And trust me if you fancy lunch it is a long walk and you think oh i'll pay it's easier!! You are not aloud to take anything out of the buffet restaraunt eg fruit, bread water or coffee... (you have to hide it in your bag but watch it they are WATCHING YOU!!
If you would like a bottle of water to drink then think again, you can only have the bottle at the table but they will take the lid off you so you can not put it in your bag. And if you would like water from the bar then you are only aloud a plastic cup full. We all joked and called water Champayne. If you do buy some water from the shop for your room and save the lids. You only have one bar to drink from at night which was okay. you can only go to the other bar if you are prepared to pay over £12.00 a drink.
If you have black bands - you can eat every where as many as times as you like, you can drink at the 2 bars for free. you can have bottles handed to you over the bar for free. basically you can have everything but if you make friends with black bands it may be difficult for you to eat and drink together. We made friends with black bands and they got us water for our baby as other wise we had to pay.
The chinese meal was lovely!!!
I really can go on and on but i don;t want to as the complex is lovely but i spent the whole week just flabergasted the way we where treated. Those that have written reviews are right the hotel i would give it 3 star but the staff i am affraid to say 0 star... and if you are looking to book here i would not pay more than £300 per person we paid £1100 for myself and my husband and our 1 year old. there are people that paid a lot more than us hoping for a 5 star.
If you want to be spoilt and don't want to pay for everything then this is not the hotel for you, I will not say don't go but i am warning you before you go that please do not look at there web site and think youare going to paradise it is more like butlins but in a 5 star hotel.
if you are looking for a greek island please try corfu, we stayed in Roda which is about an hour from the airport, and the hotel is 5 star. when you book please make sure you state superior or family room with pool it is only about £45 extra but it is 555555555555*****************
