Filokalia Studios

I woke up in the morning and was expecting a nice full breakfast to start my loverly holiday. But insted i was given i piece of toast and that was it. I was not very inpressed with this as it was ment to be a full breakfast.

We have just had a great holiday staying at the Filokalia. Alkis and Shilina made us so welcome. Our studio was spotless. Most people we met at the apartments were on return visits. Nothing was too much trouble. The apartments are up a lane on the other side of the main road and it is really peaceful. Achladies is a lovely little resort and the tavernas on the beach so friendly with good food. This was our first visit to Skiathos and we will be back next year for sure for two weeks this time maybe three!

Just returned from the most fantastic week staying at the filokalia studios. we were greeted with a warm welcome from Alkis, the owner, who bent over backwards to ensure we had everything we needed for a truly brilliant week.This was my first time to Greece and was told to expect very basic accomadation. The filokalia is far from basic. The studios are fully furnished with airconditioning and are spotlessly clean. The gardens, pool and bar areas are well kept and cleaned daily. I can recommend eating there too. Shillina does all the cooking and works the bar during the day. Her cheese pie is fantastic. It is an easy 5mins walk to the local beach with all ameinities. The suppermarkets are near by and a bakery. We took the water taxi to Skiothos town, 2 euros, most nights. A lovely harbour and a good selection of restaurants, bars and shops.Very traditional. Do hire a car if you can and see the island, it is so lovely. Explore a few of the beaches, there are 66 to choose from. We had a car for two days and saw most of the island. The roads are not for the faint hearted though, some can be very steep. The veiws are great. All that is left for me to say is I WILL CERTAINLY BE GOING BACK. what can i say that hasnt already been said,filoalia apartments are the best ive ever stayed in, in Greece,Shllina the lovely lady who works during the day gave us the warmest of welcomes,Alkis the owner is areal nice guy who couldnt do enough for you the greek night they have on a Wednesday night was billiant,the food all done by Shellina was superb,overall the apartments were perfectly situated and i would go back year after year.

This was our second visit to Skiathos and we were delighted with our apartments, the location, and the friendliness of the owner and staff, (Alkis and Shellina).
The pleasant beach is a 10 minute stroll away, there are local supermarkets and a bakery and some very fine tavernas if you fancy a quiet night locally.
Alternatively catch the bus or water taxi into Skiathos town and sample the fine range of bars and restaurants; something for all tastes and budgets can be found. There are also some good jewellery shops amongst the usual tourist tat.
The Filokalia is a superb, small family friendly complex and we liked it so much that we're seriously considering a return visit, which we've never done before.
The rooms are clean and spacious by Greek standards, the setting is excellent, and the pool and bar area are well kept. Alkis is justifiably proud of his apartments and we spent many happy times chatting to him late into the night whist he mixed his very dangerous cocktails!
Shellina works during the day and is most accommodating, even preparing vegetarian food for us on request.
Overall highly recommended!

Superb accomodation on a wonderful island. The studios were so clean that we all thought they were new. Alkis, the owner and Shellina who runs the pool bar were great - friendly and welcoming. The Swimming pool, gardens, and studios are kept beautifully. We've been going to Greek Islands for 10 years now and had some fabulous holidays, but this was right up there amongst the best. We were so impressed, we are going back in 2008. Olympic representative Mark was very helpful and always available if you needed anything.
The small Supermarkets in Achladies were quite expensive, far better to get the bus into Skiathos for your shopping. Couple of nice tavernas on the beach, but for more choice, especially for fish lovers, catch the bus or water taxi to Skiathos Town. If you're feeling brave and for the thrill seekers amongst you, catch a regular taxi - we shared one with another couple and the journey was a blur - we reckoned it was Schumacher on his day off. One minor irritation was the dreaded timeshare. If anyone tells you you've won something try to escape or you'll end up trapped for half a day.

This accommodation should be rated 3 star minimum. We stayed for 2 weeks and had a great time. The apartments were immaculate, the welcome and friendliness of all was great.
I would say anyone wanting a relaxing holiday in a home for home atmosphere get yourself to the Filokalia. Anyone who goes to Greece should know accommodation can be basic but this was far from it, believe me I have been in some of the basic accommodation.
All in all absolutely great holiday and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Fantastic place! Highly recommended with friendly people and a lovely location. Definitely a place to re-visit.
There is a short walk about 200m from the main road up a gently sloping single lane which doesn't get busy at any time of the day. We found the walk very pleasant, not even the children complained as you strolled through olive groves and fruit trees.
At the main road there are 3 supermarkets which were well stocked and a bakery.
Acladies beach is a further 5 minutes stroll where you will find a good range of tavernas.
From the beach you can catch a regular water taxi to Skiathos town for 2 Euro, well worth it.
The buses on the main road run every 15 minutes to Skiathos Town but don't leave it too late in the evening as they tend to get very full.
We had a fabulous apartment which was very well equipped and had double glazing and mosquito nets. The view off the balcony to the sea was superb.

Fantastic place! Friendly people and in a lovely location.
Don’t be put off by the comments that it is up a lane and you need a torch at night, only some of this is true. The apartments are 200m from the main road along a gently sloping, winding single track road which is a very pleasant stroll through olive groves and fruit trees.
The road is well lit and very little traffic so makes for a nice walk. At the main road is a couple of supermarkets and tavernas and the Achladies beach is a further 100m where you will find a beautiful stretch of beach and a further couple of very good tavernas.
From the beach you can catch a regular water taxi to Skiathos town for 2 Euro.
Alternatively buses run from the main road at regular intervals (At least every 30 mins from early morning to midnight) in both directions to Skiathos town and koukanaries.
The fare is 1.20 Euro no matter how many stops you are going.
The apartments are very well presented and equipped and arranged up the hillside with a pleasant pool area and bar. Most seem to have a sea view.
My only negative comment would be that some apartments are up a lot of steps so not suitable for people with walking difficulties, other than that I would recommend this place to anyone! It's beautiful!

The review of Filokalia does not take into account that most of the high quality Achladies
accommodation is built on fairly steep inclines, and as such is not suitable for people with serious walking difficulties.
We were very impressed with the accommodation at Filokalia. The staff (especially the owner Alkis) were very friendly, and worked hard to ensure that the place was always very clean and tidy. There are two small supermarkets within 5 minutes walk. Both were found to be well stocked and reasonably priced.
Although you can eat locally in Achladies, the regular and sedate water taxi ride straight into the harbour in Skiathos town was and still remains a memorable highlight of the holiday. This is the place to go if you want to relax.
