my wife and i, stayed at the duxford lodge hotel to be close to the imperial war museum, at duxford airfield,

we originally booked for two nights, but after the first we decided to leave.

we were asked to pay £128 per night b&b,the dinner came in at £18.95 for two coarses or £27.50 for three.

the room we were given had filthy carpets, a filthy anti slip mat for the bath, there where a lot of white stains on the bed counterpain, god only knows what they were, a lamp shade the was badly scorched by the bulb , and one small pillow for each of us.

we ordered our dinner in the hotel restuarant starting with smoked chicken caesar salad followed by rib eye steak, when the first course arrived, it was very obvious, that the chicken was of the processed type, very bland and probably out of a tin. we left the restaurant at that point and informed the receptionist, that we would not be staying the next day.

we also demanded a full refund of our first nights accomodation cost which they had taken in advance, a demand which they complied with.

Management response from coachhousehotel, 17 Jul 2008

Our rooms are of a very good standard but unfortunately there was a scorch mark on a lamp shade and professional cleaning had failed to remove a red wine stain on the carpet , however I think the bleach stain on the underside of the bed counterpain is due to too vigorous cleaning. As for the food in our Rosette Restaurant, unfortunately I have never tasted tinned or processed chicken so feel I cannot comment but the other salads served that evening were enjoyed by our guests. We were pleased to be able to refund Mr/s West's money in full and not charge for food ordered but not tried to enable them to stay somewhere more to their liking.

Good, but not cheap.. by JSR007

Stayed on a Saturday evening with my partner and our 3 year old grandson. Check in was very good and our room #9 was a good size with fold down kids bed and a good bathroom with bath but no shower facility.

Dinner was really good. The food was plentiful, tasty and well presented. The little one just had some plain veg and some bread rolls.

Staff were very friendly and looked after our needs very well. We only had 2 or 3 drinks and the bill for 1 night with food for 2 adullts and one small child was just over £200.

We were attending a works function at Duxford Air Museum and enjoyed our weekend and our stay at the Duxford Lodge very much. A more inclusive pricing structure for kids might be the only chink in the overall inpressive hotel armour.

Slightly Fawlty Towers by LLSL

When I booked a room at this hotel, my husband said `That's odd, they were full a few days ago.' Sure enough - when we arrived, they had us down for the wrong date. Fortunately a room was found, and we settled down, relieved, to rest before dinner. Slowly it began to dawn on us that the room had not been serviced fully since the previous guest. there was rubbish in the bins, half-open shampoo bottles in the bathroom, wet towels and half-used soap. On closer inspection, the sheets had not been changed. The lady at reception apologised profusely and this was all put right while we had our dinner. We had their set two/three course meal and while the food was adequate, it wasn't award-winning,and we were slightly perplexed by the row of culinary awards hanging on the wall. Overall the room was comfortable and the service was friendly, but the price is quite steep when really it is nothing more than a large, unexceptional B and B.

Pleasant stay, could do more for younger guests by LiztheWhizz

We stayed here a few years back when our son was in a cot, so were glad to return to see if it was as good as we remembered.

It only has 11 rooms and seems to be pretty much booked solid in the week with business people, but we managed to get in on a Sunday night. Check in staff were extremely helpful when we made the booking (we needed a room with an extra bed for our 6 year old) and also on arrival.

Our room was on the top floor, clean and well equipped though on the small side. Nice new flat screen TV, lovely big bath, lots of towels.

The food in Le Paradis was excellent, particularly the starters. Smoked salmon was top quality, some of the nicest we have tasted and the confit chicken was just as good. The ice cream and sorbet menu (about twelve of each) is a wonder to behold and the basil ice-cream quite literally sensational.

Breakfast was also very good, espescially the cooked part, though the buffet was surprisingly devoid of fresh fruit - nice yoghurts though.

The only negative I would mention was that there was no menu for children which is odd as they do lots of functions (weddings etc) which children attend. Our son is of an age now where he likes to have a menu to choose from or at least a few options from the staff.

Instead, we were left to ponder what he could manage from the restaurant menus without much by way of suggestion or encouragement from the solitary member of staff, the whole unsatisfactory process made more difficult by the fact that she kept disappearing as she was also on reception duty.

We stayed at three hotels of a similar standard during the week, and this was the only one that did not (appear to wish to) cater for its younger guests. Time to move with the times.

Superb service and spotless by raggyangelosmum

I stayed overnight as the hotel is close to the Eastern Leadership College. The hotel was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The customer service was outstanding, all staff were attentive and pleasant. Three colleagues joined me for dinner, very good with an excellent Malbec at £16.00 a bottle. You must check out the homemade sorbets and ice creams. Breakfast was very good, with some of the freshest eggs possible. Beautiful setting, I imagine it is beautiful in the summer when you can enjoy the garden. I paid the extra over my subsistence allowance to stay and will do so again.

Just what a nice litlle hotel country should be by ratherbeathome

I stayed here on a Sunday night to avoid a long drive early Monday morning and managed to get double ensuite room with full cooked breakfast for £60 online. It's an old house that would once have been in the heart of the country but its large garden is now surrounded by housing,

Good sized room with plenty of storage and a good selection of tea/coffee etc in the room and a small TV with Freeview satellite channels. Good sized firm bed and everything spotlessly clean. VERY friendly welcome and attentive staff. Although it's not far back from the road the double glazing and very heavy curtains meant I had a very peaceful night.

Ate the fixed price 3 course dinner in the restaurant and was very impressed - good ingredients, well cooked and nicely presented. Excellent breakfast. They also have quite an ambitious a la carte menu which looked well worth a try.

The only minor gripe was a shower that took a long time to settle down to a usable temperature and then wouldn't stay pointed where it was pointed.

This place is not trying to be a fashionable boutique destination, but is a great example of what a small hotel with restaurant can be. I wish there were more places like this around the country so I need never stay at a Travelodge/Premier Inn ever again!

Quiet & romantic by r4chelf

My partner & I enjoyed a quiet romantic weekend at the Duxford Lodge as part of a visit to the Duxford Air Museum for my partner's birthday. The hotel itself was beautiful, we enjoyed a fabulous meal as part of a special offer and as I had advised reception of the special occasion, we enjoyed the best table at Le Paradis (the hotel restaurant) along with other special touches such as a birthday card and birthday confetti on the table. Highly recommended & good value for money (especially the DBB & air tickets deal as publicised on their website).

Worthy of Applause by A TripAdvisor Member

The Duxford Lodge is comfortable, characterful, and most professionally run. Le Paradis is the popular restaurant at The Duxford Lodge Hotel. It's rated by the AA: 2 Rosettes, but is worthy of a third which would take it into the big league. The high quality, imaginative fare, often featuring fresh fish, as well as homemade ice cream - worthy of applause - is matched with a concise, unusually assembled wine list featuring some vinous bargains. Overall one gets the impression of great value for money.
