What a wonderful place to eat and stay by LeicesterDaisy

We were looking to stay in this area and found this hotel through the internet. We were a bit concerned by the lack of reviews on the Trip Advisor website but decided to take a chance and book it.

It is a fabulous hotel. Beautifully restored and furnished and with a great restaurant. It looks like an old coaching inn and although it is located on the main road through the village we were not troubled by the noise of traffic.

We booked a dbb package in one of the standard rooms. It was spotlessly clean and the dinner and the breakfast were fantastic. Lots of choice, freshly cooked and using local ingredients. It has won a number of awards and we thought they were well deserved.

The staff were excellent and looked after us well.

This hotel is highly recommended and a marvellous find.

By George ..... what a find! by champagnesliv

Stayed here as guests for a private party being held at the hotel. This was organised and executed with great panache by the hotel.

Buckden is a pleasant village conveniently close to major routes, yet one is unaware of the close proximity to such busy roads. The George is a handsome Georgian coaching inn with twelve beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated rooms (we were able to peep into about six one morning when they were being prepared for new guests). With gorgeous Occitane toiletries, fluffy robes and a large comfortable bed we felt very happy indeed, primarily because at £100 a night for a standard room, one is not paying through the nose.

The dynamic, young, friendly, courteous and professional staff are truly exceptional at this hotel and even though there was mistakenly an additional £5.70 on our final bill we felt it would be churlish to quibble about it after such charming service throughout our stay!

Good stay, disappointing breakfast by Stickers
8 / 10

The receptionist was very friendly and professional when we arrived and we were shown to our room, which was clean and well-appointed. There is a good bar in the hotel and the staff in there, too, were very friendly and helpful. All in all, the evening part of the stay could not be faulted.

Sadly, the morning after was a bit of a let-down. We awoke badly dehydrated due to a lack of ventilation and because the heating had been set way too high throughout the night. In these days of high energy prices one would expect that hotels would be looking to save money by turning the heating down a bit. It is a mystery to me why every hotel in Britain has to be heated to about 67 deg C. Secondly, the service at breakfast was atrocious. Everything had to be asked for from bowls to menus and tea/coffee. We also ended up having to raid the adjacent table for items such as milk jugs and pepper. There were 2 staff on and it was not especially busy, so this was just not on.

On the whole, though, we quite liked this hotel and thought it clean, well managed and reasonable value for money.

Superbly appointed rooms each named after a famous George, very well decoracted with lovely touches (e.g book about the George specific to the room, lovely soft, fluffy towels and robes, L' Occidentale toiletries). Charming and helpful staff. Absolutely wonderful evening meals and breakfasts. Very highly recommended!

Precisely wonderful! by Lazy_Latop

What a fab hotel. Thought given to every detail. Found it v. comical that even all the handles on the salt and pepper mills were in perfect alignment when they weren't in use! Like I said - precisely wonderful!

Great menu and the rooms are a delight
