My boyfriend and I went to Arina Sand Hotel in May 2007; it was my best ever holiday! Staff friendly and helpful, the animation team were very friendly and had a really good laugh with you, asked you to play games every day but wasn’t annoying, if you didn’t want too they wouldn’t keep on. The food was amazing and lots of it. Drink and food available all day, 3 / 4 days into our 7 day holiday, we realized that the main restaurant was open for lunch we thought only the pool side was available and was amazed with the lunch time menu.
The pool, hotel, beech was all very clean and tidy! The staff work their socks off and still smile after hours of working very hard. The room was basic, had a bath, shower, toilet and basin, security box, TV, two chairs with table, dressing table and beds, terrace with chairs overlooking the beech and pool. We didn’t spend much time at all in the room, who does?
The hotel is large, with great facilities but it is quite remote unless you take transport to the next town, but being fully inclusive, who needs anything else apart from a hotel with it all.
We went in May and the weather was amazing, hot but not too hot, we had lovely tans. The planes do fly right over the pool/beech, we spotted the hotel from the plane window on our way…..but like a busy road back home, you tend to block the noise out without even thinking about it, so the planes didn’t bother us at all!
We wouldn’t have spent a penny, but did because a photographer came one night and took pictures and you could purchase them, we brought some gifts for family and duty free but apart from that we didn’t need to take our wallets.
We would go back tomorrow, without even thinking about it!!

Just returned from a two week holiday in Arina sands and we had a fantastic time.
We arrived late evening and were greeted by smiles and quick check in, orange bands were given to our two children ages 4 and 9 and we were given pink, we were shown to our room which wasn't in the main hotel but a short walk away.
They were a bit basic but comfortable with air conditioning, as it was dark we couldn’t see the view from our balcony, but in the morning wow!! Panoramic view of the great sandy beach and clear waters of the sea.
The maids did an excellent job of keeping the rooms clean and always chatty and smiling.
Entertainment did a great job from kids clubs to adult activities and put on some great evening entertainment (lion king my favourite. my kids loved the Robin Hood sketch laughed there socks off)
Food was good and of high standard, staff a bit miserable but didn’t spoil the meal.
Hotel pool was very very deep at one end and very salty so hurt your eyes but it didn’t spoil my children’s fun.
Great clean beach and plenty of sun beds, there is also water sports available Jet Ski’s banana boat etc.
There were a couple of cash machines in the village about a half hour walk (or 5 euros in a cab)
There’s great water parks and an aquarium near by. Plenty of ice cream and cold drinks Pepsi 7up etc.
We got a late checkout with no fuss (35 euros). Overall we had a great time and will certainly return again we were sad to leave (a sign of a good time in our book)

When we arrived at Arina Sands at 5.30am we was put in the bungalows which were nowhere near the hotel.
The bungalows were very basic like four walls and a door. After complaining we was put in the hotel. Which was a bit better but no air-conditioning.
Food was poor. Kids not catered for. Pool was very clean and surrounding area. Sunbeds were always available around pool and beach.
Best food was at beach bar. Hotel was situated in a very quiet area.

We spent there 'all inclusive' week in early May 2009. For sea enthusiasts the hotel has a good location right at a long stretch of sandy beach, which is fairly private (but not separated from the adjacent public beach). Beach is of fine sand and sloping mildly (you need to walk a distance before you hit the swimming depth). Water was relatively warm in early May. Beach is open to west winds, but the next beach only few meters away has its bay to the north so you have a swimming option in case that westerly winds bring a higher surf to the main beach. Resort has one good size pool with sea water (plus much chlorine so if you are after a serious pool swim bring your goggles). Accommodation is either in the main 5 storey hotel building or in bungallows. We stayed in the building (which is of an old design and quite ugly from the outside, especially from the pool). Half of the hotel rooms head towards SW and you may not want any of these unless you don't mind the traffic noise from the busy highway to Heraklion (running on the hill side not far away). We got this room after our late evening arrival, were alarmed by the traffic at 6 am and asked to have the room changed. Reception staff was friendly and let us change the room for one in the 'better half' heading towards the N beach. This one was quiet. The accommodation is more 3+ star than 4 star. We found the resort's weakest point in meals. Perhaps because of our early in the season stay and not too many guests, the choice was poor at breakfast -even simple pancakes were served only once in whole week, no selection of cheese (and the only kind on offer would be our favourite in 'the cheapest in Crete' contest). Choice was not great at lunch times (apart from good salads). Dinners usually included tasty freshly prepared meat, accompanied by many doubtful choices 'submerged in universal sauces'. My wife experimented once and tried the submerged stuff and... found herself with a food poisoning at night, alternating between bed and toilet on our day no.6. Otherwise the staff was friendly and all inclusive drinks were at a 4 star level and served well over midnight. Resort lacks some basics such as fitness-gym. All in all if you are after a good beach, sea and pool you will be satisfied but if you are after a good accommodation and food standard then think twice.
