"We have stayed in Six Castlegate 3 times now over the past 3 years first staying shortly after Six Castlegate had opened. The greeting you receive from your hosts is second to none always friendly smiling and informative.

The furnishings and linens are of top quality with each of the rooms and bathrooms having had a great deal of thought and a huge amount of attention paid to detail all based on making the guests every need accommodated you are rewarded with a most comfortable and stress free stay.

The cooked breakfasts consist of tasty local produce (great cumberland sausage) along with a choice of fresh fruits and yoghurts and great coffee.,

The renovation on building is extensive and well done , I wish the hosts every success with Six Castlegate it is well deserved.

Very special place

"My sister and I went to Cockermouth looking for records of our ancestors. We found this B/B through Trip Advisor. It was as good and better than the reviews. Very friendly welcome, beautifully renovated Georgian town house. Decor pure and uncluttered. Everything about the place was perfect. Breakfast a feast if you can bring yourself to tick everything on the menu and perfectly cooked (included a selection of fresh fruit). The hosts even found some of their old records which included the surname of our ancestors. A wonderful B/B."

Fab B&B

"Arranged a nights stay at 6 Castlegate so that we could visit the Jennings brewery and just generally try out some good old fashioned Lake District hospitality!

The B&B is lovely; beautifully presented, the hosts were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. I would throughly recommend this to anyone. the brekfast was fab, and in the room is a well put together guide of things to do including places to eat out.

Great value, great stay!

Fantastic, Welcoming B&B

"Six Castlegate is a beautifully restored historical home. The rooms are all attractively decorated in tasteful colours and the hosts are extremely welcoming and friendly. The breakfast is fresh and portions are large so take advantage of the directons to the surrounding lake walks that the hosts have on hand!"

Loved it!

"We have just returned from a weekend in Six Castlegate and must share with you how fantastic it was.

Alan & Angela (owners) just could not do enough for us, nothing was too much trouble. The guest house is beautiful. We stayed in the Skiddaw room on the top floor. Here we found a really comfy bed complete with soft fluffy feather pillows and duvet, LCD TV & tea & coffee making facilities. The bathroom was equally impressive - bright and airey with a walk in shower, huge soft white fluffy towels - Just great. Everything about this guest house is great and it is spotlessly clean.

On checking in Angela asked us to complete our breakfast order for the following morning, which we did. Well, what can I say. Fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, fresh juice fully cooked breakfast which was fab and set us up for the whole day.

Six Castlegate will definately be revisited by us.

Fantastic B&B

"I was looking to stay for a night near Keswick but being Easter Bank Holiday, this was the only place that I could get a single night booking. We were in for a lovely surprise.Inspite of being so close to the town centre (Wordsworth house is just a 5 min walk away and so is Jennings Brewery) it was away from the crowds. Our double room Blencathra had a lovely view of the church spire nearby and snow clad mountains in the distance. It was quite a large room with beautiful furnishings ,comfy kingsize bed and well-stocked hospitality tray. There was free wi-fi access as well. The power shower was simply out of the world. Our very attentive host Alan was quite proud of the improvements he was making to the place as he should rightly be.We are vegetarians and still the breakfast was of good variety plentiful and above all, delicious. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby as well.Wished we had planned to stay longer here."

The only place to stay in Cockermouth

"This place is a dream. Some 8 months or so of hard work and renovation have brought this place to a remarkable level of aesthetics as a bed and breakfast. The reception is warming, the rooms are cosy, and the facilities are second to none. I have paid at least £80 a night if not a lot more for accommodation like this on my travels or the past 5 years. Its very stylish but also contemporary at the same time. Very clean and new. Breakfast is superb and is a must to start your day. If you want to go out for a meal or a drink (or both), the nightlife in Cockermouth has plenty enough to offer. I have never stayed or been to Cockermouth before and the guide provided by the owners Alan and Angela is spot on for a first timer. I havent got enough time in my evenings to do it all ! Once you have stayed here you will come back again i promise you .....

Thanks again to Alan and Angela.

Nice B & B

"Very nice B&B conveniently located in the town centre. Our host showed us great personal attention and the standard of the room was first class. Nice breakfasts. The only downside was lack of convenient parking."

The best B&B Ever

"We managed to book a twin room at short notice and couldn't believe our luck when we arrived and saw our room. Fabulous! with a luxurious bathroom supplied with large thick towels. The breakfasts were great as they offered a large selection of fresh fruit, yogurts and great cereals along with plenty of fresh coffee and tea all served in a beautiful breakfast room with linen napkins and white tablecloths. The property is a fantastic Georgian building right in the centre of Cockermouth so very convenient for restaurants and pubs. Alan the host went that extra mile to find us daily weather reports for hill walking. RECOMMENDED !"

Heaven at Six Castlegate

"My husband and I stayed at Six Castlegate guesthouse in mid-May of this year. Since returning to the US, we have often reminisced about our visit to Cockermouth and our experience at Six Castlegate. The whole experience was kind of magical, beginning with being able to book a room on short notice via my Blackberry. We arrived the following morning just before 11:00 am, and although we couldn't check in right then, Angela, our hostess, kindly showed us the room and we were able to leave our luggage there as we dashed off to the Jennings Brewery (just around the corner) for a tour that started at 11:00 am.

Upon returning to Six Castlegate, we unpacked and marveled at our lovely bright, large room and the feather duvet and pillows on our queen-size bed. It was so inviting, we had to take a nap! Waking refreshed, we made plans for dinner at the Bitter End brew pub which was a short walk from Six Castlegate. The food was marvelous, and so was the beer that was brewed on the premises.

The next morning, breakfast at Six Castlegate was superb! Among other things featured, was some of the best whole grain bread that we had on the entire trip. The fresh fruit buffet was very tasty and beautifully laid out. The yogurt was a great touch and of course, the hot portion of the meal was expertly prepared by Angela and served by our host, Alan. The linen table cloths and napkins were a very lovely touch.

Once we returned home, we rated the many places that we stayed over our 17 day visit to England, and Six Castlegate came out on top! Although we don't know when we'll next be returning to England, you can be sure that we will make a point of once again visiting Cockermouth and staying at Six Castlegate.
