Great food, fantastic location, nicely decorated warm rooms
Would highly recommend this hotel, can't really fault it! The location in val claret is fantastic, with only a short walk to a choice of 3 chairlifts serving some of the best runs in the area and the funicular. We travelled with our 1 year old son, and found the room was well laid out with room for the cot provided by the hotel. The room was always warm and cosy, and even had channel 4 so being a saddo i could watch deal or no deal every night when we came off the slopes. We used the Crystal pepi penguin creche based in the hotel and this was excellent, taking care of our son from 8:30 till 5 everyday. He even went bum boarding one day! He seemed to be happy and tired every day when we picked him up, having eaten well and been out in the snow at least once every day. The only problem we encountered was that the evening meal doesn't start until 7:30pm, which was too late for our son so we ended up with jars of food in the room for his meal, although the hotel did offer when we queried by email to cook something for him and warm it up earlier if we needed to. The food in the hotel was really good too, with a 4 course buffet every evening consisting of salad, soup, main with a choice of fish, meat or pasta sauces and deserts with cake and several flavours of ice cream. the only downside to the holiday was the cost of things in resort. With the £ so weak at the moment, a pint of beer in the hotel outside happy hour was 6 - 8 euro, so now is £6-£8! However the local supermarkets to sell quite a few varieties for around 2 euro's, so if you don't mind a drink in the room this can save loads of money! Would definitely go back, the resort and hotel are brilliant and the snow conditions were the best i've ever seen.
Excellent location
As others have said, the location of the hotel is ideal for access to lifts - out the door, turn left and walk for a couple of minutes and you are at the Bollin and Fresse lifts. 50 yards on the funicular and the Les Manches lift are there. Out the door and across the road and the car park and you're at the Tichot lift. Whilst it is not a ski in/out location, if there is enough snow you can pole back to the hotel down the road. It’s location is also ideal for nightlife – 5 mins max to the bars, but also conveniently away from the noise of the nightlife. The room whilst not massive was perfectly adequate for us as a couple and it was modern and clean. I can understand what someone else said about being located next to the lift – you can hear the squeak of them even if you are not located next to them. The food was very nice, albeit, it is a bit of a “everyone for themselves” self service – especially at breakfast where the boiled eggs station was a regular fee for all and lottery as to whether the eggs you put in were still there (had someone else taken them?) or indeed whether they were cooked. The bar is lovely and relaxing with a real fire and a pool table (we went to Hotel Curling for a quiz night and their bar was small and shabby with broken sofas). Of course the bar prices are a bit extreme – 6Euros for a pint of lager or a glass of wine. Even if you try to drink at happy hour, it is only a 2 for 1 deal, so if your partner wants a wine and you want a beer, then it’s still going to cost you 12Euros. The hotel also has a ski room to leave your boots and skis – remember to get the key to your ski lock from reception (we arrived at 2am so no-one gave us one and we had to figure it our for ourselves). There is also a small gym and sauna – remember to take your swimwear if you want to use the sauna. As for the resort, it was great, lots of ways out of the resort via lifts and differing ways to ski back in according to your skill. It’s not quitye the concrete jungle some people complain about, but nor does it have the charm of a traditional town like, say, Morzine. That said I think I would rather stay in Tignes than in Val D, as Val D seems from previous experience to be an extreme party town. There are bars/discos in Tigne and we did go to the Crowded House bar one night but it was full of people 15 years younger than us. Also it smelt funny and the loos were disgusting – a puddle of urine in both mens and ladies – why do people have to act like pigs??? Other than that we didn’t go to any other night spots, but there was always a steady stream of youths dressed in t shirts etc on their way to another drink. All in all loved the resort and the hotel was good. We will go back to Tignes again, but next time we will choose a chalet as a hotel doesn’t encourage socialising.
Great Location, friendly staff, very happy with our choice
The only thing that stops this hotel getting an excellent rating is that the room was a bit too small, we overcame it by unpacking our suitcases and storing them in the wardrobe which was easy! The location is fantastic for skiing very close to the ski lifts and its right next to the lift (elavator) that takes you striaght up to town for apres ski. There is a ski hire shop literally outside the door of the ski room which is well heated and provides pegs for boots and lockable slots for skis. Our room had been recently redecorated, it was very warm (despite -20C outside) and we had a great view of the slalom. The bar is huge and very relaxing with sofas and a log fire. The restaurant is also huge, we found the food to be great for a hotel buffet and there is the option of a Savoyard restaurant next door which is run by the hotel and inclusive if you are half board. We arrived late and left early so the hotel provided a late meal and also gave us a packed breakfast to take with us when we left. The sauna and steamroom were also lovely after a day on the slopes!
great location, terrible kids club
This is a good hotel in a great location for the slopes. The rooms are very modern but a bit small. The most disapointing aspect in the kids club and associated ski school - do not book your children in there!. You are promised that your children will be looked after, taken to ski school and picked up. This is not the case. Our children were not made to feel welcome, no one speaks English and they are herded and then left un supervised by more non english speaking people. Our children cryed, moaned and begged us not to send them to club or ski school. I overheard the ski instructor shout at my son, who I know is no angel, but that level of agression is not warranted. He also left him alone at the foot of the ski lift because he couldnt find his ski pass - he is 7 years old!!! We rescued the holiday by skiing as a family and taking private lessons. The ski area in fantastic and we ended up having a great time!
Loved the hotel and location
It was our first ski holiday as a family (my husband has been a couple of times before) and both the location and hotel more than met our expectations. The staff at the hotel Diva were both friendly and helpful. The rooms are kept very clean and the rooms at the front of the hotel have spectacular views. The hotel run mini club for children was excellent and our son was very well cared for and happy to go every day. He had ski lessons every morning and had indoor activities in the afternoon until we collected him after our skiing. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to enjoy a good ski holiday and feel very welcome and relaxed. The only thing that could be improved on is a childrens menu - but there was plenty of food on offer.
Perfect location for summer glacier ski
I stayed at Hotel Diva in Tignes along with my two kids (14 and 10 yo) plus one friend of them last summer for summer ski/snowboard on Tignes glacier. The location is simply perfect: couple of minutes walk to the "subterranean lift" that brings up to glacier, walking distance to everything in Tignes. Hotel itself is pretty aveerage, try to get "front" rooms for sun and better view. Rooms are clean and simple, though they miss minibar. Service is good and friendly. Only negative note: the food. I wouldnt suggest the half board, because there are plenty of small restaurants, snacks, pizzerias in Tignes where to have lunch or dinner. Breakfast buffet is also pretty poor. Overall a good stay, we will return this year. Friendly place for families, quite a lot of english and italian guests.
Brilliant Location for Slopes
Hotel Diva is in a great location at the base of the funicular, Bollin, Tufs and Tissot lifts. There is a free bus that goes around the resort a few metres from the hotel. The food was great, and each evening there was a different themed meal. We had read previous reviews and requested a quiet room away from the lifts, noise from the bar was still heard on the 5th floor, however it stopped before 10pm. The rooms were dated and could do with a revamp, however they were clean. Unfortunately the fitness room was a disappointment, with equipment not working and not much variety.
A very good hotel
We have just returned from a late skiing holiday at this hotel and I'm just writing to endorse the good review from Feb 06. Only the room itself (back of hotel, needing a little decorating to freshen it up) stopped this getting an excellent rating. Staff were very friendly and helpful, bar was good with reasonable entertainment, and the food was excellent. Despite catering for what seemed like hundreds of people, it was fresh, full of variety, well cooked and presented. I'd happily return there.
great for skiing
We have just returned from a family skiing holiday here and it was the hotel that saved the day. We travelled with Thomsons and they would only offer us skiing lessons for the children in the mornings or afternoons for 6 days. All we wanted was 2 full days ski school for them and after that they would ski with us. The thomsons rep told us we could not do this and I showed her the thomsons book which told us the hotel diva could. She did not know anything about this. The childrens club at the hotel diva bent over backwards to help us and gave us the 2 days lessons no problem. The hotel was very warm, the bar was great and the food very good. It could maybe do with a bit of decorating but who cares about that when the skiing is great and your children and stomach are taken care of. They even opened the breakfast room at 5.30am on departure day. We would definately recommend this hotel and we hope to go back soon.
concrete jungle
Avoid the rooms next to the lifts - they're noisy and run all through the night. The food was generally good but ofte left standing and hence not as fresh as could have been. The rooms we had (tried 4) were basic and had uninspiring views. Perhaps this hotel is good in winter - ski in/out - we went 25/06/05 for 7 nighyts and the resort wasn't officially open until 04/07/05, so it was dead! Bear that in mind for Lakes&Mountains in early season. Definitely would not return. Tignes wasn't a patch on Chamonix (France) or Zell Am See (Austria) for walking or biking, or general tourist activities.
