Le Val Thorens Hotel

Having skied in Val Thorens before we wanted to stay in this hotel because of its interesting design and excellent ski in ski out position. The room (facing the church) was quite roomy by French ski hotel standards and had excellent storage for all our gear. The staff were very helpful - especially at reception. After reading reviews here I was wary on arrival, but we were greeted with such friendly and helpful welcome that my worries were dispelled. I had help with ski pass and discounted ski hire from the shop in the hotel - comparable prices to local hire. Ski lockers for each room - lockable - and then straight onto the snow and the pistes. Booked through Erna Low travel. The triple room we had booked was not available. We were given a sagging camp bed which only fitted in tiny room by putting chairs on balcony. We had booked full board but were told by other diners "just order the soup". Sure enough, food was inedible. When we complained to the rep he said there was nothing he could do as there were no other rooms available. Not a particularly inviting hotel. Food very poor, family room very small with put u up bed in it. Very noisy in the evening and quite unhelpful staff. Would not recommend or stay there again

We booked two rooms for a week through Crystal. Total cost £4831 half board including skis, boots and lift passes. We were allocated rooms on the 4th floor. The lift only went as far as the 3rd and there was a narrow spiral staircase to get the the 4th - difficult with luggage. The lift was useless and we walked most times. Breakfast was good and fresh. We stayed at the Hotel Val Thorens for the Christmas week. It is the first time that we have been away over Christmas so it was important that things went well. We were not disappointed! From the minute we arrived after a long drive the service was superb - from check in to our 1st meal in the restaurant. Within a short time we knew that we had chosen well. Excellent place in all respects. Truly ski-in ski-out. Lovely food. More chocolate than you ever saw in your life if you are there for Easter Sunday! True, the rooms are not massive, but they're in good condition. One warning - beware the recommendations for wine in the a la carte meal section - they may cost more than you normally want to pay.

This year was the third time we stayed at the hotel. And like the other times is was a very pleasant one. The rooms are not large but nice. The food is more then acceptable and the service is very good. We were staying with three kids (3. 11 and 14). If you are looking for a child-friendly hotel, this is the place to be. In the middle of the ski center with a very nice terrace where you can have lunch. The staff is very polite and helpfull. The bar is cosy. Next year will be our fourth stay, for sure.

Stayed in Hotel Le Val Thorens with a ski group of 24. This was my second time at this hotel and the ski group's 4th time. The hotel is in a terrific ski in/out location with a great terrace for Apres Ski. You can easily ski the Tres Valles but be aware it takes all day to ski to Courcheval and back. Stayed for one week with my partner on Half Board Basis. Key Points about hotel: Location: Perfect. Right at the top of the draglift in the centre of the town. You ski to and from the door of the locker room. The sun terrace is also the last place in town to get the sun as it sets behind the mountains at the end of the night. This does get busy with non-residents but once the staff get to know you as a resident you soon start getting served a lot quicker and looked after much more than the others.
