Fabulous & Unique

"Fantastic B&B, Fantastic service. Louise & Liam are great hosts. Rooms are amazing & bathrooms even better. Can not fault a thing!! Have stayed in numerous 5 * hotels & this rates among the best. Fantastic local restaurant, The Indian Princess, which was the best food we have had in along time! All in all we will go back to The Reading Rooms over & over! If your looking for a lazy weekend away with your spouse & dont plan to do much sightseeing ( Margate isnt the best) then this is definitly the place for you. You will LOVE it!"

Fantastic B & B

"We can only really echo what everyone else has said. We have just returned from staying in this fabulous B & B which deserves all the praise it has been getting. I just hope it doesn't get beyond our price range in future but I wish the owners the very best of luck - they certainly deserve to receive the highest accolades for this venture in very risky times financially. The recommednation of the Indian Princess was a great surprise too. Nothing like the normal run of the mill Indian. A weekend to remember even in misty cold Margate. Thank you so much."

Perfect...

"This B&B surpassed all of our expectations, which were reasonably high having read the Trip Advisor reviews beforehand..! There is no need to repeat the fabulous and deserved comments already listed here. However, we would add that the thoughtfulness of owners, Louise and Liam, both in their design of the rooms as well as in their commitment to the details (we were greeted by name on arrival at our evening restaurant after Louise unobtrusively confirmed our booking; chilling our wine and delivering it with impeccable timing on a beautiful antique tray; serving a resplendent breakfast with the paper) made our stay exceptional. This is a very special B&B. Louise and Liam have gone all out to create a perfect getaway and are, in our opinion, way ahead of the game."

Excellent boutique B&B

"This really is a hidden gem of a B&B in Margate. We stayed for one night - the bedroom (Room 1) was fantastic. Grand proportions in the room, the minimalist rough-luxe design was very in keeping with the house and created a relaxing atmosphere. The room had great floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the square. Everything was in large scale - the bed, the bathroom etc. Excellent choice for breakfast - served in the room. All round a great place to stay for a relaxing break. Liam and Louise were vey welcoming - helping us with booking an evening meal and generally being hospitable."

Simplicity and luxury combined

"Comfortable minimalism. Decorated so tastefully in keeping with the house's Georgian origins, but complete with luxurious touches. Bare boards, shutters, beams, with plain white walls in the bedrooms, lovely olive/caramel walls in the bathrooms, which are the size of most people's bedrooms. Free-standing claw-foot baths, expensive toiletries and even mock candles to light your bathing time by. Huge beds to sink into at night. Nothing was too much trouble for Louise and Liam who were the nicest hosts. A fabulous breakfast - served in bed no less - completed an experience of a lifetime. Go, spoil yourselves, you won't regret it."

Unassuming refurbished georgian town house hides amazing rough luxe interior, with the most amazing bedroom and bathroom

"Like alot of people we saw the Channel 4 programme and thought that sometime we would create an excuse to head east to the Reading Rooms. What a place!

The georgian townhouse sits quietly in a leafy square just off the town centre, and what a place it is. The interior is reminisant of the Rough luxe in London, but this place has its own individual character.

We stayed on the first floor which had beautiful floor to ceiling windows complete with the original shutters, polished oak floorboards and an amazingly artistic un-finished fireplace. The bed was just wonderful, the room was calm and serenely beautiful, and almost parisienne in feel.

In the morning Liam and Louise bought to our room the most incredible breakfast selection...we sat at the table in the window and feasted! Shame it wasn't sunny ( but then Hey! it is December!)

By complete contrast the en-suite is uber modern, bronze mettalic mosaic tiling and standalone bath, complete with a superb walk in shower area, who needs an excuse to relax for hours in the bath here!

REN bath goodies were supplied and the bathrobes made relaxing in front of the flat screen TV complete...

What a fab place! We loved it. Go there, you won't be disappointed!

Margate, hmmm well thats a different story, probably nothing a bit of EU money wouldn't sort out, however if you fancy a decent meal, try the Indian Princess down the road, VERY nice !

Rough luxe on sea

"We had a lovely weekend at this newly opened boutique B&B in Margate. Run by a lovely and very helpful couple, this beautifully restored Georgian townhouse is like a little oasis. Very relaxed, beautifully decked out rooms and bathrooms, insanely comfortable beds, and a cracking cooked breakfast.

Margate has a bit of a bad rap, but it's an interesting place with a budding creative community. Several restaurants in town were recommended, but we took a short drive to a place called the Sportsman in nearby Seasalter which was fantastic.

We'll definitely be back when the Turner Gallery opens, if not before.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review of your stay. It is very much appreciated. The Sportsman certainly is one of our favourites in the area. Perhaps we can tempt you back with news of newly opened fish restaurant, Eddie Gilberts in Ramsgate. Very very good. Thanks again.

Calm boutique b and b in a beautifully restored Georgian house

"This is a truly beautiful Georgian house in a garden square renovated with splashes of modernity and colour whilst retaining its best period features. Our room was beautiful, with floor to ceiling windows with their original shutters, boards, old marble fireplace, high quality linen on the bed and a truly beautiful and large ensuite bathroom. This place has the all the attributes of a top little boutique hotel, the little touches - the slippers, high end toiletries, mineral water and flat screen TV - were much appreciated, as was the breakfast tray the next day. We came down for a weekend out of London and would not have considered Margate, some parts of which - not near this b and b - are still pretty run down; but what with a few interesting local restaurants - suggested by our kind and helpful hosts - and such a comfortable and beautiful place to stay, we will return."

Thank you very much for your review. It was a pleasure to have you stay and also for your feedback as we had only just opened. We have some more newly opened restaurants and shops since your visit, so we hope you'll have more to explore on your next visit. We're working on getting our lounge opened and then there will also be the garden. Thanks again.

Blissful rest with style on London's doorstep

"We could only manage to get out of that fluffy and all enveloping giant bed on the top floor of this gorgeous georgian house because the owner spoilt us by delivering a wholesome home cooked breakfast to die for right on our window side table. While sipping tea we could view the sea at the back behind the rooftops and the seaguls. Super clean, the biggest bathroom I have ever had a bubble bath in, didn't even turn on the telly. Spent one afternoon just inside with my book while my wife was checking out the Turner and a few local shops, while the next day we headed for a day out in the countryside at the powell cotton museum http://www.quexmuseum.org/ after a lovely morning walk in Botany Bay. Nice indian in Margate but not much else, and a good italian in Broadstairs.

Strongly recommend for tired urbanities with a taste for rediscovering britain.

Thank you very much for your review. Sorry it has taken us a while to reply. We hadn't realised we could! It's really great to get the feedback that guests are enjoying their stay. The Powell Cotton museum is brilliant isn't it. It really is an eccentric museum of a museum. One of those quirky places that this area has many to explore. Thanks again.

A great hotel, wonderful hosts...

"I saw The Reading Rooms on a Channel Four program (Country House Rescue I think) shortly after I'd booked tickets to a Specials concert at the Winter Gardens. I thought it must be a sign so we booked and I'm glad to say it was a real pleasure. Liam and Louise have done a remarkable job restoring a stunning Georgian house on what must be the nicest square in town. We stayed in the top room, exposed roof timbers, parquet flooring, a huge bathroom with roll top bath and walk in shower, and a sumptuous bed with super soft linen sheets. Breakfast consisted of full English, breads/patisserie and cereals, all brought to our room on time and a delight to eat. We had such a wonderful weekend; Louise even got our names on the door of the after show party which really blew us away. Our hosts were friendly without being intrusive and I would recommend this place unreservedly if you're ever in Margate."
