Happy Holiday
First time in Cyprus Paphos and a Thompson Gold Holiday we booked a superior room but found it smelt of damp the carpet was badly marked. The room was small the bathroom was very dated and dingy. We went to have our evening meal the first thing we saw was a cockroach around the food serving area, we were assured that the kitchens were spotless. We were moved to another room which at least did not smell of damp. Dispite all this we did enjoy our holiday the staff were excellent and very helpful there was a good bus service to Paphos but nothing to walk to in the evenings. The daytime and evening entertainment was rather like a holiday camp, fine if you like that sort of think. There was plenty of sun beds dispite lots of towells on beds very early in the morning.
AGB Hotel - a different viewpoint
After having read so many excellent reports of the AGB Hotel we felt it must be something special and have just returned from a week there. We upgraded to a sea front room and the view was lovely but the bathroom was like a shoebox. The lighting was really terrible in there as well. As most guests have stated, the hotel was indeed clean and well presented, and the staff very good. What was really annoying was the lack of hotel policy about sun bed reserving by the infamous towel brigade. I feel there should be a notice saying no sunbeds to be reserved before 10.30 and so first come first served!- It was so lovely to be by the sea. However, should I have chosen to sit poolside this would have been impossible if you had not been out by 7.30ish. The other thing I found deeply insulting was the issue of wristbands to denote your board basis. Surely showing a small card when ordering would have been enough. Needless to say my band stayed firmly in my handbag. The buffet meals were certainly plentiful but not very gourmet. Lunch would have been improved by having more snack items or the ability to make a sandwich, but no cold meat or sliced bread was available. We had lunch at the Taverna on our first day and loved this but it then closed for Winter which was a big disappointment. All in all the holiday was pleasant but I would not return. Indeed I would never get on a Thomsom charter flight again with their seat pitch!!
fabulous entertainment team
Fantastic hotel, great food and the entertainment team were outstanding. Camille and Suzanne made our holiday complete, they are just so versatile. Suzanne sang one the best versions of the Beatles song 'Something' that we have ever heard. Thanks and well done to them all. We would highly recommend this hotel to everyone. Ray and Pauline from Sunderland
Can't wait to return!
This was the second time we stayed at this hotel. A first for us to return to the same venue. On our recommendation our daughter and her fiance, who are in their twenties, spent a week here also and could not praise the place enough. In fact they never hired a car as planned and just enjoyed the ambiance and facilities on sight. The food is truly incredilbe and I would suggest anyone to book the all inclusive deal as drinks can be a tad expensive. On a couple of occasions my husband and I requested a packed lunch and found it would quite happily feed a small army! We all think so highly of this hotel that we have just booked again , this time for Xmas, and all four of us cannot wait to be totally pampered and have a stress free break. The sea view from the superior rooms is breath taking and is worth the slight supplement. We never encountered any excessive noise. Quite the opposite. At last we have found a holiday haven after years of searching!
Just far enough away from Paphos!
There are other reviews which comment on the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the hotel, both of which I would echo. We took another trip advisor members' advice to book a junior suite, and had a really stunning (if narrow) sea-front terrace - it was well worth it. A lot of the rooms at the front of the hotel overlook the pool (and sea), but I think would probably be quite noisy until the evening entertainment had finished, which was around midnight each night. The hotel is far enough away from Paphos not to be tainted by the commercialism of it all. It was fine for a half-day visit, by bus from right outside the hotel, but much too busy and touristy to stay there. Overall, in spite of what I am about to say, we really liked the hotel and would go there again. What we weren't so keen on: We generally found the selection of hot food at the evening buffet was not very exciting (we had booked half-board). It seemed to cater to a certain old-fashioned British palate - carvery and casserole-style dishes with rather overcooked and unexciting hot vegetables. (This may have been because the average age of the guests was probably nearer 60 than 30!) The cold buffet dishes, on the other hand, were always excellent, and on the night that was Cyprus-themed, the hot food was also really delicious - moussaka, kleftiko etc. We'd have liked to have had more of such dishes available on other evenings. The bed was beyond firm, it really was the hardest bed I have ever slept on. We were only there for 5 nights and so decided we could live with it as we didn't want the hassle of changing rooms, but had we been staying for longer we would have had to do so as we slept so badly. The evening entertainment verged on the cheesy. Again, it really didn't matter for 5 days, but for 2 weeks it would have become quite irritating.
Truly Golden
We have recently returned from this hotel having had another wonderful and relaxing stay. This was our 4th time at the hotel and we are looking forward to returning again next year.Until our first visit we were always critical of people returning to the same place year after year-but now we know why it happens. The Atlantica Golden Beach offers a first class holiday for all age groups. The food is superb in both quality and variety. The cleanliness is second to none and the staff are always friendly and accomodating. We always feel sad that the location of the hotel is marked down in the THOMSON brochure. From our perspective it couldn't be better. The hotel is situated out of the main resort of Paphos heading towards Coral Bay.There are a few tavernas within walking distance, but should you wish to venture further then the bus stop is right outside the hotel. We have used this service on a number of occasions and have always found it to be cheap and reliable(not like the UK).Also taxis are readily available thro the reception which are also reasonably priced. This hotel suits people wanting a quiet and relaxing holiday. We cannot recommend this hotel enough-you will not be disappointed!
Great Hotel
This was our 4th time to this hotel. We love it. You are made to feel so welcome - the rooms are very clean and we had a great view overlooking the pool. There are plenty of sunbeds and there are always waiters patrolling the whole time to get you drinks, what a way to relax! The food is excellent in both the restaurant and down at the restaurant by the beach which is an excellent way to spend time by eating sitting in the sunshine and listening to the sea. We always go all inclusive which means we do not have to worry about carrying any cash and I think its excellent value for money Location is a little bit out of Paphos but that's no problem as there is an excellent bus service oppostie the hotel What other hotel when you are leaving have some of the staff come out to wave you off goodbye? Can't wait till next year!
6 TIMES A WINNER
My husband and I have just arrived back from The Atlantica Golden Beach Hotel for the SIXTH time! I think that illustrates very clearly how we feel about this excellent hotel. The day we arrived back in England our first job was to visit the Travel Agent to book for 2007! From the moment we arrive we begin to relax. The hotel is amazingly clean. The rooms are just wonderful, with magnificent views and the food is out of this world. Every meal is a total delight! The staff are very helpful and friendly with a mission to help make the holiday an experience of a lifetime. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone.
What a relaxing time!
Have just returned from an all inclusive week at this wonderful hotel. It was one of the best holidays I have had. The room we had was a superior room and was beautiful. The staff greeted you on arrival and took your bags straight to your room while you enjoy a fresh glass of juice, tea or coffee plus pastries and cakes!! The hotel is clean, the staff are friendly and very very helpful. There is plenty to choose from with the food, the bread is marvellous and is baked fresh everyday in the hotel. There is something for everyone. The hotel downside to the holiday was the entertainement, it was unprofesional and slightly 'cheesey', however if you stay longer than onw week you can venture out to other places, taxis seem to be quite cheap. I had a mud massage and facial however this was extra and worked out to be pretty pricey. This hotel is well worth a visit and you won't be disappointed. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!
Top Marks to the A.G.Beach
Visited Cyprus for the first time and stayed at the A.G.Beach. Very nice. Hotel is very clean, comfortable and the food and service are excellent. The beach is a little small, and is used by more locals than hotel residents. You can look for downsides or things to moan about at any hotel but i would thouroughly recemmend a stay here. Be wary of Thomson pricing as what various guests had paid varied wildly with some paying way over the odds. The best was a group of couples that booked direct with the hotel and got their own flight and saved hundreds. Do the Akamas 4x4 trip - it's a great day out - but be wary of the Egypt 'quick trip' it's at least an 18 hour day and whilst you will see the pyramids etc you also do a number of things you wont want to like Lunch on a ridiculous nile restaurant, papyrus shops, jewelery shops.
