There were 8 of us that stayed in the Samson and I think I can speak for all of us when I say we were very impressed. The bedrooms were clean and spacious with a great shower (some had baths.) The food which is served over at the Wagner was a surprise too. They served a buffet on 2 of the days which we wasn't that excited about. On the other days they put on a 4 course meal which enabled us to experience srange delights such as guinea fowl. The food was very good and there were always several choices of which you selected at breakfast in the morning. The hotel is fairly close to the lifts and also right by the village centre. Range of slopes was superb and suited most levels although some of the reds were tricky for the beginner or less confident skier/boarder. Apres was good fun with the red umbrella bar next to the Gruber Stadl. Lurzer Alm was also a good place but not so much for straight off the slopes, plus it was expensive in there. Food in the Lurzer Alm was superb though and highly recomended for the buffett days :) All in all very impressed with the hotel & resort and would come back again.

We were a party of 7 and stayed at the Samson Hotel. The rooms were large and spacious, of a high quality and we were all very impressed with the accomodation. However, apart from the lady who served us breakfast ( who was extremely pleasant and helpful ) we found the rest of the staff and also the owners very unhelpful and at times quite miserable. We realised that going at the end of the season they were probably tired but we were disappointed at the attitude displayed. The hotel front door was always locked by 9pm and on our return from the Wagner Hotel ( where the evening meal was taken ) we either had to trudge through lots of snow and go in via the ski room or else through a private restaurant which had an adjoining door. The food was of a good quality but a couple of evenings the choice was limited as they had run out of certain dishes. The resort is fabulous with lots of good skiing available and we would certainly return to Obertauern but not stay at either the Samson or Wagner Hotels
