The 'Wonderful' Golden Beach Hotel
from GinnyMarie
I travelled to Hersonissos by myself, a lone female and stayed at The 'Wonderful' Golden Beach Hotel. I was given a very gracious welcome by Dimitis, the Night Reception and one of the very charming waiters who both chatted to me for about 30/40 mins whilst I was checking in, explaining everything on the Hotel info sheet that guests are given and answering all my questions. EVERYONE at the hotel from the delightful Manager to the very sweet chamber maids were extremely friendly to me, absolutely nothing was too much trouble and every single day the restaurant staff (in particular Manolis who is also styudying to be a lawyer), reception and barman made a point of chatting to me and addressing me by my name - very impressive and made me feel at home. The food was incredibly good, very much in abundance at Breakfast (cereals, yoghurts, ham/cheeses and cooked eggs/sausages) and more traditionally Greek in the evening with all the usual Greek starters, plenty of salads and a choice of hot meat/fish dishes and veggies followed by several deliciously naughty desserts. The room was more than adequate in size, was spotlessly clean and everything in the bedroom and bathroom worked properly, the bed was comfy too and the aircon was very powerful. Absolutely fantastic value for money and I cannot wait to return to see everyone and Hersonissos again before the end of the summer.
Lovely Crete
from Bijuca
The hotel it is nice, especially because in the room we had air conditioned, which was necessary tacking account of the hot weather from outside. The people from the hotel was very nice, i also meet Manoli, the guy from the bar - very nice guy, also was nice the lady and the guys from the reception, the people from the tavern from the back of the hotel and some guys from the BON - BON tavern. We had a lovely time in Crete so we hope to be back there soon. Alin, Romania
Hotel staff is the most important to make holidays great!
from DaceM
Me and my daughter (11 yrs young) stayed in Crete, Hersonissos Golden beach hotel for one week holiday from July 6th untill July 13th and would kindly suggest the hotel to other guests visiting Crete. The overall image and comfort of the hotel was ok, only the bathrooms need renovation to my mind. For us the most important thing was that the beds were very comfortable, air conditioner in the room worked good, the cleaness of the room and the hotel was very good. Even if there was no hair dryer in the bathroom, the reception staff provided us with the portable one, so we were satisfied. Taking into account that we had our room on the 2nd floor (room No 404), the pressure of the water in the shower (especially during late night hours) was not in a satisfactory level. The location of the hotel. Excellent! It lays in the very center of Hersonissos on the very beach. From the other side there is a fantastic view to the mountains! We spent also one day travelling through the Crete island by car (don' t miss to visit the only lake of Crete located little bit away from Rethymnon - some 130km from the hotel and the Palm beach - it' s fantastic!). The hotel staff was very helpful to us with the car rental service and guarantee for the full insurance! Food&Beverage. We stayed in the hotel on AI basis and found the food being very delicious, wide choice and assotment. So, we send big thanks to the very nice Chef of the hotel! We did not meet him often, but when met him, he was very polite and smiling and, of course, he knows how to make good food! The beach. Located at the foot of the hotel. Not very big, but clean and enough space to feel comfortabe. Even if there are stones in the water (as almost everywhere in Crete), we did not find it a problem, as every shop nearby the hotel offer a wide choice of special swimming shoes for only 6 euros....The staff on the beach very polite, help with umbrellas, etc. Activities. There is a billiard table and ping-pong table in the hotel, so my daughter learned to play ping-pong and that was a real fun for her! Mini market of the hotel. Unfortunatelly, the only place in hotel we would suggest to improve the service, so we preferred to visit other shops, because the attitude to customers did not meet our expectations. Hotel staff. Excellent!!!All staff members speak English, are very polite, friendly and helpful! We would like to send special thanks to Manolis (waiter and bar tender), Maria (receptionist), George (waiter), Michael (bar tender) and definately to hotel managing director - Mr. Lefteris Manias! Very nice personalities and good proffesionals! To be honest, all the excellent and smiling staff members are the main reason I would like to return back to this hotel! We definately found our stay in Golden Beach hotel worth the money we paid and will suggest it to our friends! Thank you! Regards, Dace from Latvia
Manoli and his friend "Mr. Pizza"
from Hadzu
We was there with my girlfrend in 4 - 11 June 2007.There was very pleasant weather - fresh air and temperature about 24 degree C in day and about 20 degree C in night.Personnel of hotel Golden Beach was very pleasant and friendly. All meal was very delicious and there was a lot of all meals. There was very likeable and compliant waiter in main bar - Mr. Manolis ("Manoli"for all people in this hotel) and his colleaque Mr. Pizza (his name is Manolis too), which can cook and bake very delicious pizzas. I must not forget for main manager this hotel. This person was very helpful and solicitous for all people in this hotel. We was very satisfied with stay in Crete and with all peoples in hotel Golden Beach in Hersonisos.Thank you very much.I love Crete. Radek Kriz Czech Republic
A wonderful Hotel- Elsy
from Elsy-Nazareth
I stayed in this hotel for 7 nights- enjoting every second in it, for many reasons: - the hotel's location is wonderful- it's located in the heart of the city- combining both a mountains view and a full sea view- according to the tourist's request. I had a full sea view room- it was magical. The hotel has a wonderful swimming pool on the roof- still it takes 1 minute or even less walking to the beach- a wonderful swimming spot that tourists come to from all other hotels in the city . Around the hotel you can find- in minutes- rent a car officess, wonderful souveneer stores- a lot of cafe shops, clothes stores...banks...just everything- and the most important- u can find easily a parking place. At night you find yourself in the heart of crete- nightclubs- cafe shops- everything- For young peoplethere's everything they need. - The Hotel's food is just great- both breakfast and dinner- a delightful various greek food- ( for vagetrians they have a very good food). -The hotel is very clean. - It fits well especially for tourists who spend most of their time outside- it's close to everything in the city. - For me the greatest thing in the hotel is the way they treat tourist- they make you feel in home- the warm family enviroment is wonderful for all the staff. The manager, the reception's staff- the food room - resturant staff- especially Manolis- they all make you feel that you don't wanna leave at all!!!! The hotel is suitable fir all ages- children adults and older people I reccomend this Hotel a LOT Best... Elsy Nazareth Isreal
Its not the Waldorf Astoria, BUT....
from AndyThePhotographer
Really now, did you expect the Waldorf? If you did you will be dissapointed. On the other hand if you wanted a 3 star hotel in the middle of Hersonissos on its main street you got it. We stayed at room 326 not facing the main street , it was quiet at all times. Size of the room for 2 persons more than enough. The shower could have been better but there was plenty of hot water at all times, pressure so so. The hotel is very clean, rooms cleaned every day, no, its not a new building but very well kept, painted, no smell anyplace. Cant rememeber all the names but at the reception there is a wonderful young and nice lady called Maria, always ready to help and always with a smile. She recommended the 12-6pm boat cruise to Sissi with Captain Diggi-Diggi, great guy and a great deal for 15Euro including drinks and snacks.I found that at the hotel everybody spoke English. The food I would say was not the greatest, ok but we did eat out a lot all over the place. I must mention a great young guy always with a smile in the dining room, the name is Manolis. Ask him anything about the Island, he is got all the answers and information you will ever need. We also rented a car thru Maria and all was A-OK. Thank you Golden Beach Hotel and crew, we did have a good time. Remember, a little smile and good will, will get you far. Have a good trip. Andy
I will not return
from JuliaBucharest
The pictures are very beautifull but don`t let them misslead you. First of all the smell is very bad, the bathrooms are not clean, the quality of the hotel is quite low, 2 star hotel is the right rank. They presented the hotel as 3 superior star hotel but that description is far from the truth. The beach is awful, with stones in the water , very small and not proper. The thing that surprised me the most is the swimming pool. It is something small and poor, with 2 or maximum 3 broken lounge chairs. The restaurant it`s ok, Thank God something was almost ok, good food but not much variety. Don`t take the all inclusive package as you will get tired of the same food every day. The waiters are not presentable and they rarelly speak english. The atmosphere for the entire place is for old people or for people with low budget. I will not return there...
its awful
from brikki41
the manager of this hotel should be sacked! when we arrived in the early hours because of flight delay he gave our room away!!! then to say their was no more available even though we had pre-paid!! after waiting in the reception area for nearly four hours and getting eaten alive by mosquitos we finally got a 'room',they was no balcony whatsoever, and as for the bed i would not have let my dog sleep on it! so i slept on a lilo for a week, then they was the charade at meal times, every student from poland must have been there so it was impossble to get any food really, not that we where missing much, and to cap it all on the last day the manager was very rude to my wife,so much so i wanted to hit the man!!! so please DONT STAY HERE!!!!
This hotel is a sad unpleasant experience
from one-romanian_artist
I just returned today from Golden Beach hotel,Hersonissos ;My advice is:don't go there! First of all,it has not private beach as they show in the photo, and they will charge you for the beach, even if you pay all inclusive,as we did! The bathroom is terrible small and old,to not mention that when many people take a shower, the hot water doesn't exist anymore,so you have to do it when nobody does it! The room service doesn't exist.it's a lie,and the roof swimming pool is very small with no bar there, this is also a lie! But the most terrible thing is if you make the mistake to take demipension there or all inclusive! The "all inclusive" means some salads and water or a glass of local beer -perhaps they take care about the health of the tourists![ or a bad quality glass of wine],which you are obliged to take in a very unpleasant and bad looking underground floor! Is looking as a worker's old communist place for eating! Me and my friend had rent a car and went away from this,to Agia Galini and Agios Nikolaus, where everything is much more interesting than in Hersonissos! You can sleep there in wonderful places cheaper than in this hotel, and the atmosphere is great there! Go to another place if you want to have a pleasant experience and to see something nice,Go to Hania,Rethymno,AgiaGalini,Ammoudara,Elounda,Matala, they are all wonderful! To not mention that in the room they have not even a hairdryer, and you have to ''borrow'' from the reception an old one,and to pay a deposit for guarantee! Anyway the deposit is more than the bad old hairdryer deserves! In two words, this hotel is a low quality, poor hotel which is between one and two stars. If you want something nice and unexpensive but looking special, choose another.
I do not recommend this hotel.

First of all, the pictures of this hotel found on the Internet give the impression of a massive facility dominating the beach line with all hotel windows facing the water. In fact, the entrance to the hotel lobby is on the main commercial street of Hersonissos, and even in the off-peak month of October the only rooms available face the street, give no hint of even being near a sea, and give only a direct view of the Karioki bar across the street; this Karioki bar's existence so close to the hotel guarentees that any attempt at a reasonable bed time will be a hopeless undertaking. While the hotel has a 4-star rating, I have to wonder what rating system is being used here: as much as I can figure out, if this is a 4-star hotel then a typical big-city business class hotel gets at least 12 stars. On the general hotel rating scale with which I am familiar, this hotel gets 2 stars at most. The rooms are small and the bathrooms tiny with aging amenities. We requested a double bed and were given 2 single beds pulled next to each other. The bathroom did not contain a bathtub and rather contained only a shower wedged into a corner between the sink and the toilet; anybody stooping reflexively to pick up a dropped bar of soap will bang their head on some piece of hardware (happened to me twice before I figured out I had do plan my dropped soap recoveries carefully and deliberately). While the shower may not have been the worst I've experienced in terms of force of water and the afore-mentioned space problems, it certainly competed valiantly for the title. The food was adequate at best, and certainly far below the quality and variety I would expect from a vacation resort. Both breakfast and dinner are presented as a buffet and the presentations are at once meager and unappealing. The issue of food should be seen as secondary since there are literally thousands of good Greek resturaunts to be experienced in Crete. There is also a very good Dutch-run coffee shop across the street to the right of the Karioki bar, where an excellent breakfast may be had for between 10 & 20 Euros. On the plus side, the hotel staff were universally cordial and helpful. This appears to be a family-run business, and my sense is that the hotel appeals primarilly to budget-conscious pensioners from northern Europe who have been coming here for years. I suspect that it is these pensioners who occuply all the rooms looking out on the Mediterranean sea which you see in the Internet pictures. But if (like my wife and I) you are looking for a vacation resort to spoil and indulge yourself during your 1 week of the year away from the children, the Golden Beach Hotel is not the facility you are seeking.
