a 2nd honeymoon for us we were looking for peace and quiet and busy when we wanted we got exactly that the place was quiet , clean and pure bliss getting away from the buzz of life. The photos do not do the place justice the apartment was lovely and clean the pool area was lovely and clean the bar staff made us feel very welcome there was only a couple of nights entertainment both great nights at the pool bar the entertainment will increase when the season is in full swing. we went into porto rico couple of times taxi very cheap had a good time but was glad to get back to our tranquil apartment area highly recommend it for people looking for a peacefull break away .

Thanks to everyone for their feedback we based this last minute two week trip on your comments and you were spot on. We wanted peace and quiet thats exactly what we got. The apartments are described as basic so we did'nt expect much however were pleasantly surprised I am a real fuss pot. They are spacious and have all mod cons, you can rent a fan (you will need it fairly high temperatures this week ) travel kettle advice was spot on too makes a big difference. No grumpy bar staff they were all very pleasant. Nice places to eat recommend Italian on the beach and Zenubia, if you want to push the boat out go to the Amadores Beach Club fantastic food and chill out lounge. Would recommend a trip to Puerto Mogan on the ferry really nice. My only criticism is they need to invest in some larger sheets! Already planning a return trip. Enjoy !

Just back from here and what a holiday I had. the apartments are basic but what do you need when your on holiday? A bed, shower and somewhere to cook. Its not as if your going to be sitting in the apartment all day long. I have no complaints what so ever. The people at the reception are friendly and very helpful, the bar on the complex beside the pool is very welcoming and very clean. The grub is brilliant aswell. the three ladies behind the bar (Leigh, Paula and Fae) are very pleasent and love a good laugh and a bit of banter. The beach is a 5 minute walk from the apartments and is very clean and well maintained. There is a mini supermarket within the reception area of the apartments and a Spar a few minutes walk around the corner. The night life in Puerto rico is great and Playa de Ingles as well. There are lots to do, I strongly recommend the dolphin tour which is 24 euros per person and lasts for two and half hours from puerto rico. There is a pub in Puerto Rico called La Fiesta is fantastic with entertainment on every night starting around midnight, and also Sparkles in Playa de ingles. You must check these out you will go away in fits of laughter and an all time high. Hope you have a great holiday the way I did, all being well I will be returning again next year.

Just back from these apartments, went with my sister and my 84yr old father..we had a fantastic time, very friendly mostly scottish people who know how to enjoy themselves.Quite basic apartments but lets face it you get what you pay for, they were clean and the pool area is great.very handy for the beautiful clean amadores beach.i can highly recommend the Irish cottage for food, excellent food with friendly service. We will definately go back there very soon.great for all ages...quiet area with a 3 euro taxi ride to puerto rico.also recommend a visit to magan on a friday for the market.A great night out in Dicey Rileys is a must for anyone who likes the irish music and the billy connolly type humour.

just arrived back from the gran amadores which was my second time there.
again had no faults with the accomadation as they were exactly how i had remembered them from the last time. i would reccomend you take a travel kettle with you as there is no kettle in the apartment but with the usuall basic kitchenette.
if you are looking for cheaper groceries go to the hyperdino just underneath the highlander bar which is alot cheaper than netto and spar(i got a 5 litre bottle of water for 1 euro 5 cents) and it also cut alot from my shopping bill.
if you are booking excursions please please please dont go with fabiar as the guide that i got spoke very little english on the excursion and kinda smelled abit.

Very, very pleased with the Gran Amadores apartments. Very clean, spacious, well maintained and friendly staff. There was no missing tiles around the pool as reported in earlier reviews and no building work going on either. Never had a single complaint whilst I was there. Although dont buy your shopping in the mini market. Its very highly priced. There are 2 spars in Puerto Rico which seem to be half the price of the one at the apartments.
I'm 23 years of age and stayed there with my girlfriend. I wasnt looking for a rowdy holiday, just a week away in the sun and it was perfect. The beach is only a 2 minute walk from the apartments and puerto rico is only just along the coastal walk. We took an easy pace along the walkway and Puerto Rico beach and harbour is only 20 mins away and the main centre only 30 mins. If you prefer to get a taxi it only cost 4 euros (inc tip).
Amadores resort is beautiful and very well maintained. There is only about 5 or 6 hotels in Amadores but has a very large beach that is cleaned and straightened out every night. There are lots of restaurants, shops, bars and cafes along the beach where everyone is nice, friendly and not pushy (unlike Puerto Rico).
In Puerto Rico you will be approached by the usual "lookie lookie" men and people desperately trying to get you into their resaurants and bars but just be firm, avoid eye contact and dont let them physically interact with you (eg handshakes, forcing things into your hands, putting bracelets on for you to try). Puerto Rico has many gift shops, restaurants, bars etc and we went out there regularly. El Toro steak house is highly recommended. People will coax you into their bars with various drinks offers but be careful. We were lured into a harley-davidson style bar by being told it was happy hour so it was buy one get one free, but after we ordered 2 cocktails and the bill coming to 13 euros I questioned the amount. They then said the BOGOF was only on the local spirits. Needless to say we only had the one drink there.
Amadores doesnt have any "lookie lookie" men but they do have the usual people trying to get you into their restaurants. These people are friendly and once told that your not interested tend to leave you alone. I can recommend the Restauant Zenubia. Very friendly staff and good food. We went there on the 1st night and went back again on the 4th and they still remembered our drinks order!
We went on an excursion one day on the ferry that tavels between Puerto Rico and Mogan. Ferrys are every hour, it only cost 10 euros and at 10:30 every day takes you on a longer trip to "the dolphin zone" for the same price. Mogan is a very beautiful town with lots of small restaurants, cafes, bars etc. We never had a single person hassle us or ask for our business and had a really relaxing walk around. Its enough to take up a morning or afternoon but not enough to plan a whole day there.
Anyway I think I've covered everything so if you are considering the Gran Amadores dont hesitate. If I was to go back to Gran Canaria (already considering!) then I would defenitaly choose Amadores over Puerto Rico due to the beautiful beach and the "no hassle" approach everyone has.
Happy holidays!

Wife and I went last minute for 2 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Spent too much money on fresh fish meals at the beach restaurants but did cook in the apartment a few times.
Apartments are very basic and you have to pay local extras for some essentials (fan, toaster, tv etc). No air con but not a major problem.
The pools are great - very quiet. Spent a lot of time there. Watch your lilo's though as they can disappear, and be seen back at the shop you bought them from the next day.
Taxis are great - really cheap - to Puerto Rico for shopping for your wine/beer/food and other essentials. The "cliff-top" walk to Puerto Rico is a must as it's not too demanding. I even jogged about the beach or cliff-top" walk most mornings. Staff at the apartments were okay. The maid service was excellent though.
We didn't mix too much with the karaoke set until late on but it was fun when we did. The best night being the night without the karaoke where we made our own entertainment - an ad hoc Pop Idol show. Spontaneous entertainment. - quality.

i went to the gran amadores apartments in may with my sister. i had a great time. the apartments were very clean, the staff very friendly, and the poolside bar was good for food and drink.
There was a heatwave there when i was there so we spent alot of the time at the apts and i still had a great time.
The walk into the main puerto rico shopping centre was beautiful, and the scenery was out of this world.
i would definetly recommend these apts to anyone of all ages.
I enjoyed myself that much that am taking my family back this may2008 my sister is coming as well x

Have been to Amadores on several occasions and every time seems to get better. Nice and quiet during the day, with a 20 minute scenic walk into Puerto Rico if you like it a bit busier.
Apartments clean and tidy and spacious enough for a family. Staff all friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend it. Very suitable for all ages.
The beach at Amadores is 5 minutes walk and is very quiet during the week, a bit busier at the weekends. Building work going on all around, but will cause absolutely no disruption to your holiday. Bus service is very good going both ways.

My wife & I give this a 10 rating, not because it is the best, but because it was exactly as it was sold to us.
If you want 5 stars, pay 5 star prices. We have both had a busy year at work and wanted some sun, no drunk 20 year olds at 4am, and no screaming kids clubs.
What we got was a small apartment complex a stroll from the beach (where we had breakfast every morning {E5 each} and dinner at night {E20/25 each} watching the sun set). Most of Amadores is on the cliff side so being at the bottom was a great bonus in the hot sun.
Many other holiday makers had to use taxis to get to & from the beach. The apartment staff (from reception to chambermaid) were polite and efficient. The bar (Scotch Corner - why is it named after a roundabout in North England?) was friendly with a couple of 'happy hours' each day.
The majority of guests were Scots out of Prestwick in family groups and were a friendly gang.
Most use the apartments as a stepping stone to Puerto Rico and it's 'Blackpool' shops and restaurants. We walked in (20mins along tarred coastal path) and promptly got taxi {E3} back again! Water sports are close at hand, as is an aqua park. But still ideal for 'chilling out'.
Puerto Mogan has a Friday market that is recommended - but NOT by us! It was heaving with sweaty bodies, full of 'tack' and spoiled what looked like a lovely fishing village. Go any other day, on the regular bus service.
It was our first beach holiday as we've always had active walking holidays in the UK before, but we'll certainly be back.

There were four of us in total that went to the Gran Amadores apartments and they are basic, you basically get what you paid for; however I would advise people to take their own towels for drying themselves as we had to wash our own towels as the towels provided smelt like sewage (not nice at all). The sheets are only changed once a week, which I find a bit hard to understand.
The scotch corner is very friendly apart from one woman who works there who was extremely rude (either that she was constantly in a bad mood!!).
If you have a late evening flight you will not be able to keep your apartment on as this is a big no no. We were told that they had showering facilities, however these became out of order that morning!!
One other thing, I would say is to avoid some eatary places at Amadores Beach as we all had a bad meal one night when we visited there.
On a whole the atmosphere was great, and everyone staying there were really friendly. We personally wouldn't stay there again, only because we like to try out different apartments.

Overall, I disliked the accomodation interior as it was extremely basic and a bit of an eye sore to look at, however the cleanliness was ok and the views were spectacular as they over looked the atlantic ocean.
The staff at Gran amadores were very pleasant indeed and enjpyed having a laugh. If basic and boring is your idea of fun then I say "what the heck, go for it! your worth it!"
