Just returned from a wonderful ski holiday in Scheffau. The skiing was great and the holiday was added to, by an excellent stay at the Hotel Waldrand.
The family run hotel was very friendly and the food was fantastic for the entire stay, with the rooms very comfortable and clean and the personal touch of the owners ensured a fully enjoyable holiday.
Highly recommend this hotel.
Scheffau ski Piste are ideal for the beginner to intermediate and an advanced skier can take advantage of the 4 adjoining resorts, which all combine for the biggest ski region in Austria.
We will definitely be returning.

Just back from a wonderful holiday staying at the Hotel Waldrand. First class hotel and excellent value for money. The owners were very friendly and welcoming.
The rooms are clean and tidy although quite small. They do have everything you need and are very comfortable. The half board basis was terrific with a choice of main course. The food was very well presented and plentiful.
It is literally no more than a two minute walk to the ski bus stop however a real tip is to take advantage of the locker/storage system at the ski rental shop next to the red bull tent.
For 2 Euro per day you can leave you skis and boots there meaning no long walks in boots carrying skis. Just turn up in your own shoes, change collect your skis and walk 20 yards to the Gondola.
When you are finished return yours skis and boots put your own back on and head for the red bull tent. Worth every cent of the 12 euros per week.
All in all a great hotel with good access to the amenities in the area.

The hotel is centrally located in the village, but this isn't difficult because the village is very small.
Don't go here if you want to party hard every night, but it is ideal for families or couples who want a quieter holiday. The village has everything you need, a large ski hire shop, bank, post office, tourist information office and a small supermarket.
There are a couple of bars in the village, but the main apre ski bars are located at the bottom of the slopes, more on that in a minute.
The hotel itself was very good, high in the 3 star grade. It is run by an Austrian couple who will bend over backwards to help you.
The food was very good all week, and they weren't shy with the free wine either!
The rooms are more than adequate, we had a double bed, but the other option is an Austrian twin (which means two single beds on a large frame, not a twin in the usual sense).
The room was cleaned every day, and had everything we needed. There was plenty of hot water at all times of the day which is just what you want when you come off the slopes. Only Austrian stuff on the TV, but then we didn't go on holiday to watch TV.
The hotel has a shed for your skis and a boot room as well as a free sauna which was on every day.
Getting to the slopes was no problem at all. The brochure tells the truth! It takes about 2 minutes to walk to the free-shuttle bus stop (with ski boots on, carrying skis), and buses run from here every 15 mins or quicker. We never waited more than 5 minutes at the stop.
The bus ride is about 5 minutes and you get dropped off in the gondala car park. Alternatively there is a 'piste' from the village that goes to the gondala station, but it finishes on the other side of the road, so you've still got to take your ski's off and wait to cross a busy road. Its easier just getting the bus.
Once you get on the gondala at Sheffau, the entire Ski-Welt area is yours for the taking.
In the week we tried to cram it all in, but there is tons of variety for both beginners and intermediates. There are hardly any black runs, but some of the reds are quite challenging.
During our week the snow started off poor and got much better thanks to a big snow dump, but even at the beginning of the week we could still get around easily. Most of the runs have snow cannons lining the sides, which made the best of the little natural snow.
When you've finished for the day there are quite a few apre ski bars directly at the bottom of the gondala station. So you can drink there first and then get the bus back to the village. If you decide to go back later its only about a 10-15 minute walk in trainers (rather than ski boots).
For the party goers, Ellmau and Soll have a more active nightlife and are a short bus ride away.
We had a fantastic week, and don't be put off by the lack of nightlife in the village.

Hotel was nice and friendly
Not the that close to the skiing - but a free bus or cross country ski path were.
Sauna was great for the muscles after a day on the slopes.
Not that great for night life - but the hotel has a bar - and the people we met were great - still friends with one couple.
Linked to one of the best linked run ive been on.
Can ski somewhere different everyday - lifts etc did get busy but still great fun.
The family that run the hotel were friendly and accomadating (one of our friends had a food alergy - and the menu was amended for them).
Nice please - would recommend

the hotel was clean, rooms ok, food reasonable. But sitting in the dining room was like being in a morgue. George and Ingrid were as miserable as sin, eventhough George did give us a laugh with his never ending supply of braces and laderhosen, although he didnt know it. If your over 60, like St Bernards, Tee total and sad this is the hotel for you.
Dont get me wrong the skiing was fantastic in every way but the village was extremly dull.
