We have just returned from 11 nights stay at Terracos do Vau and it was fabulous. Clean spacious apartments that had maid service daily Mon - Fri. Pool was great and well used by my 9yr old! The bar staff were second to none especially Pedro, Fernando and Rui. Bar meals were very good and very well priced. Nothing was too much trouble for the Thomson reps. The kidzone reps, Helen and Frankie, were fantastic. Many thanks to them both for helping my daughter have a memorable holiday, particularly choc-o-lot!! Alvor is well worth a visit, try the sardines....delicious. Also Jacaranda which is a ten minute stroll from the apartments is worth a visit and big reds rib shack, if you can find it, in Praia da Rocha is excellent. All in all an excellent holiday, especially for families. We are booking for next year!!
Room reduction
from FlyingPenguins
We booked a 2 bedroom room way back in june 06 with thomsons in the expectation of ensuring a place here in july 07 but got told in march 07 that there had been a room allocation reduction by the hotel and we were to be moved or given our money back. All thomsons could say was that hotels can sometimes reduce allocation for refurbishments or other problems, but surely no-one refurbishes in summer, i think thomsons had overbooked. Shame as we had heard and read good things about this place but will be suspicious about booking again if the hotel reduces rooms 9 months after a booking is made.

We have just come back from terrascos do vau. Was a lovely break with fantastic weather. Transfer time took about an hour. The appartments are tucked away in a cosy little road, with a smini supermarket at top of road. appartments were clean and maids came round most days. Only criticism is that the appartmetns could do with up to date faciliites like a toaster and microwave. aprt from that they are spacious and fully equipped. The staff are fantastic here. they simply cant do enough for you. Darius with his kareokee twice a week is fab. The kids club was fantastic as well. My 9 year old couldnt get enough of the club. A jeep expedition to monchique mountain is a must which we enjoyed and learnt lots. Overall a fantastic holiday. Would not recommend for families with teenagers though as there isnt much at hotel etc for them But families with younger children is a definate must.
Fantastic Holiday

We have just returned from a weeks holiday. The apartment was very clean and the staff were extremely friendly. We had booked our holiday through teletext, and had no idea which apartments we were going to, but when we got there we were very happy that we had booked the holiday. The area is great, and the people at the hotel were a great set of people and I can honestly say it was one of the best holidays I have ever had. I would definitely return to these apartments. We went to Jacarandas and had a lovely meal, and I agree with all the other comments, this restaurant is great, the staff could be a little friendlier. We also had a meal at La Dolce Vita, this was good too. Alvor has some fantastic fish restaurants and the prices are very reasonable. A taxi from the apartments costs approx., 5 euros.
nice beach, shame about the night life

My boyfriend and I (who are both in our early thirties and no kids) booked this accomodation last minute and as accomodation on arrival. The apartments are clean and spacious- great wardrobe space (for those who pack for every eventuality) and lovely big balconies for enjoying that early evening glass of wine. There is a small swimming pool but we didnt bother with it.. Also on the plus side the beach is a 5-10 minute walk away and very nice..walk a little way along the coast from the madding crowds and it becomes very quiet and relaxed. On the down side there is NO nightlife...the restaurants described by other holiday makers are little more than a row of three cafe's- with plastic chairs serving english food- great for a cheap and cheerful breakfast/lunch (we recommend Jacoranda ) but not somewhere you would go in the evening...Praia du Rocha is a twenty minute walk away and if benidorm meets blackpool is your thing then slap on the fake tan, pull out the white string vest and borrow a tribe of kids who answer to the names of Wayne and Tiffany and you'll fit right in....however if you prefer a more sophisticated evening then dont even bother..the place to go for you is Alvor. Alvor is a five euro taxi ride away and worth every penny- there you will find pavement bars on the harbour, cobbled streets and reasonably priced restaurants with freshly cooked BBQ fish- all prepared in front of you. If you fancy a few late drinks, there are lots of Irish bars with live musicians, in fact there were a lot of Irish people there too but as token Yorkshire folk we were made very welcome! So all in all, great apartments, great nearby beach and nightlife a cheap taxi ride away....enjoy

My family and i have just come back from a week stay at these appartments, we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, weather fantastic, appartments very clean, spacious and well equiped. Maid service very good. The bar staff were absolutely fab could not do enough for you (eddie + pedro very funny) willing to cook you a meal at any time day or night, entertainment 3 nights a week, there is a large screen that we watched the world cup on which was great. It is situated in a very quiet area with a beautiful beach, there are a few restaurants, i would definetly recommend jacarandas!!!! A walk to praia do rocha is around 20 minutes also our trip to alvor was enjoyable and cheap. Slide and splash is a fantastic day out for all this trip i would highly recommend. All in all a fantastic holiday we are definetly going to go back!!!!
Have you been to Terracos do Vau? You MUST!
from TheLonelyWanderer
We booked a last minute break with Thomson and wanted something quiet & relaxing. That's exactly what we got. Terracos Do Vau is in a fantastic location, only 5 minutes walk to a beautiful secluded beach & the resort's restaurants. The apartments are HUGE and spotlessly clean. We had a one bedroom apartment for 3 adults and had plenty of space. The staff cannot do enough to help and are not only very friendly but are available 24/7. There is a swimming pool and a children's pool on site as well as a bar/restaurant which is open from 8am til 2am (not noisy though). Entertainment when we were there comprised of 3 evenings of karaoke a week, they also have a big screen which we watched all the world cup games on. THere is a kids club which all the families were raving about, although we didn't have children, it seemed very popular. A few of the families there had been visiting Terracos do Vau for a number of years, always a good sign. There is a small supermarket within walking distance for essentials but you can stock up in a nearby hypermarket which is a five minute cab journey away. Praia do Vau is a beautiful small resort nestled between two larger resorts (Praia Da Rocha & Alvor). We preferred the local beach as it is sheltered and you can pretty much have a cove to yourself. The beach at Praia da Rocha (only 20 mins walk away) is much more open and full of sunbeds. We would recommend Il Timone & Jacaranda in Praia do Vau, two fantastic & reasonable restaurants with very friendly staff. This is an ideal place to go for families and couples or those seeking a relaxing break in a quieter resort. However, if you want nightclubs and somewhere with a distinctly English vibe, head to Praia Da Rocha. Definitely going back to Terracos do Vau in the future. Excellent value for money.
A nice family holiday destination

Have just returned back from a week in Praia du Vau in the Algarve. As far as resorts go, it is lovely, has many restaurants and a fantastic beach which was not that busy so I would advise to visit in May or June. We were told that the heat gets unbearable in the summer months so if you have children like we do, it would be best avoided. Now to the Terracos du Vau apartments - our apartment was huge and kept very clean by the maids who seemed to come in daily although sheets weren't changed and towels only changed once during the weeks stay. The staff are really friendly here and are extremely helpful. There were two things that we disliked about the hotel and these were 1) the pool - it was small and got to over 8ft in the main part which is much too deep for children. The brochure sold the hotel as for families in particular and we do not feel that the pool was built with children in mind. 2) The bar was extremely small for the number of apartments and there was no shop or restaurant on the complex. There was a super market up the drive but in my experience most apartment blocks normally have a small shop to buy milk, coffee, bread etc especially as the accommodation is self catering. All in all, the holiday was above average and we had a good time, it is just those minor things that if improved could make the holiday an excellent one.

This was my first abroad holiday and it was the best I could have wished for. It was self-catering and was very quiet, it had a bar and regular Karaoke. The beach was a five minute walk and a two minute walk for the local shops. I would recommend going to Slide & Splash... more
