Me & my husband both 40 came back from hols 4 September and must say without a doubt these are best apartments and resort we have stayed at, we usually go to Greece because we like traditional fishing villages with harbour, beautiful beaches cobbled streets and still plenty going on we found all this & more in beautiful Alvor.
The Dunas apartments were beautiful clean we heard no barking dogs or noise from bin men, we were staying opposite the cactus 11 bar run by Ali and husband mark who are very helpful and friendly mark keeps you entertained singing every night and can be quite humourus. Ali adds her special touch with lighted candles on tables, bowls of nuts (free of charge) and friendly face what more could you want oh also frozen glasses which is refreshing after being in sun(always hot).
Being on our own we went in village for meal most nights but always back to cactus for last couple of drinks good barman also helpful. The rooms very nice maid every day except Tuesday, dishwasher, fridge freezer, dryer (launderette next to reception) big rooms tastefully decorated loads of space, even double bed nice bathroom with bath and shower. Peaceful during day even though school hols all in all 10 out of 10.
Alvor is the most pretty and romantic place quiet during day and comes alive at night boats bobbing in harbour soft music playing, fresh fish being cooked on open grills outside restaurants, busy little bars, shops & eateries line the cobbled streets. We ate the first week in different places all very good second week we came across a lovely restaurant at top of Main Street called mafedos fantastic dishes, wines and service went about 4 times. Beach has soft golden sands about 4 mile long if you keep walking to left of harbour about a mile you will come across pretty coves climb a couple of steps and you walk thro caves to another 2 or 3 coves with a nice little snack bar, restaurant at night.
We are coming back to Alvor next year we will not be stopping at Dunas because supplements can be quite expensive but I do recommend the Dunas highly. Hope you enjoy your hols as much as we have Angie & Dave Newcastle upon Tyne

Found the Apartments very spacious and very clean.
The Complex itself was the best I've been in. The staff were all very helpful and the facility’s superb. Overall I would say the best we as a family have been to. Will be booking for next year.

As it was my first time in Portugal I didn’t know what to expect. However, once there we were greeted by friendly staff and a large pool.
At night, around the corner was loads of entertainment including many Irish bars, restaurants and stalls. My personal fave entertainment was Happy night karaoke bar with the gorgeous Tiago!
This holiday is ideal for a family of all ages.

It was my first time in the Algarve and I was so impressed with accommodation/area/general utilities that I’m considering another 10 day break there later this year. most of the time the weather was scorching ..great place.
We hired a car and visited Monchique, a lovely town in the mountains nearby. also Sagres and "The End Of The World" breathtaking views across the Atlantic. The Town of Silves has a castle/fortress high up and too has breathtaking views.
As for Alvor Town which was within walking distance, well absolutely brilliant with a harbour, restaurants, shops with some great bargains in ,cafes ,bars local taxis/buses...a truly unspoilt holiday resort. the swimming pool was a credit to the appartments very clean ,although no lifeguard, there was a couple of attendants first thing in the morning but not there all day...

We have just returned from a week at the Dunas do Alvor apartment complex (9th-16th October) in Alvor, Algarve. We have been more than pleased with both the quality of our accommodation and the ambience of the surrounding area.
Our apartment consisted of a spacious one bedroom unit, with standard sized bathroom and large living area (which includes the kitchen, dining and television area). On the whole the apartment was well provisioned including all cutlery and plates that one might need. It did not, however, include a microwave or conventional oven but as there are many great restaurants within walking distance this didn’t prove a problem. The complex itself features all the standard amenities, such as several bars and restaurants, a large swimming pool and another smaller children’s pool. The local beach is a short walk and is great for swimming and general enjoyment. The reception area sports a coin operated internet terminal, but you can also use cheap local dial-up from ISP’s such as Clix. Bear in mind that the hotel charges around €0.30/minute for the phone calls though!
Alvor town itself has the usual compliment of restaurants, both Portuguese and foreign. Of the restaurants we ate at in town were Tasca Morais (a fairly traditional Portuguese affair), and Restaurante China Garden which as it’s name suggests is a Cantonese establishment. Both restaurants exceeded our high expectations with China Garden beating (hands down) any Chinese outside of China. The staff and service at both restaurants was great and all staff spoke impeccable English. Gil Morais at Tasca Morais collects and frames foreign bank notes so if you have anything obscure bring it along.
The village of Alvor is fairly centrally located, allowing for relatively short travel to Portimão, Monchique and Sagres (the furthest west town Portugal). Irrespective of whether you want to hit the shops at Algarve Shopping or head west to catch some waves at the surfers beach at Cabo San Vincente, Alvor is the perfect destination for you.
By far the highlight of our trip was the time spent at a small local establishment called Marco’s. Run by Mark and Jackie, and located on the Dunas do Alvor complex, it’s an English-style bar and restaurant which serves the best steaks we’ve had in the world. If you ask for medium-rare you get medium-rare and not medium-well as you would get in England. The rest of the menu is prepared with just as much care and attention. Mark, a chef of nearly 30 years’ experience, takes immense pride in his work and this is reflected in the high quality of the dishes they serve. The other chefs and bar staff share this professionalism and that also is reflected in the quality of their work. The drinks prices are equivalent to other local establishments and their house beers and wines are most enjoyable.
Overall, our trip to Dunas do Alvor was entirely enjoyable.
