We checked in today into this hotel, which was marketed to us a 5 star exclusive de-luxe hotel, and it turned out to be at most, a 2 star run down resort at most. We booked a regular room, but when we got here, we were “upgraded” to a bungalow, a few hundred meters away... more

We were in a bungalow just off from the main hotel. The hotel staff were extremely warm and friendly. The hotel was excellent, what you would expect from a 5 star establishment. The main pool I would say however would not be ideal for young children, as no matter how hard I... more

Lovely Pool & Beach, rooms a bit tired
Our family, 2 adults, 15 year old & 8 year old boys, stayed at the Creta Maris for 2 weeks in July. We had two ground floor hotel rooms, one with a sea view and the other with a garden view. The rooms were an okay size, but are tired and need a revamp. Also, the heavy vegetation outside on the terrace made our room quite dark. The rooms were clean, but somewhat noisy with sounds audible from adjoining/overhead rooms. The pool area is very nice with direct access onto a sandy beach with plenty of beds and umbrellas, pool bar etc. The hotel provide fresh pool towels everyday. We stayed on a b & b basis and breakfast was very good with the additional benefit of a late continental breakfast in another restaurant up to 11 a.m. We went to the hotel dinner buffet once and while the food was fine, we felt it was overpriced at €30 per adult - there is much better value and choice and many of the restaurants in the resort itself and we would recommend visiting the small villages in the hills where there are other excellent restaurants, particularly Myrtios in the square of Old Hersonnisos. There is a lovely patio bar, bowling alleys, games room and disco etc. and lots of teenagers around for families with older children. The hotel entertainment was a bit hit and miss, but they host an excellent beach party on a Monday night. We had a look at bigger rooms in the hotel and the bungalows (actually two storeyed buildings) and once you are above ground level, the rooms are much brighter, but if you can, you should request the bungalows. Overall, we felt that the location and general areas of the hotel were very good, but the hotel rooms need updating.

Outdated rooms with strong MILDEW smell!
Pulled up at the hotel and proceeded to unload our own bags from the car, despite the very rude porter standing around a few feet away. We actually had to ask him to please help us and to tell us where we could leave our rental car. He never smiled or even said hello/welcome and then he proceeded to break the handle on one of our suitcases. We finally checked in and were shown our room, which was very musty and had only two beds, despite the fact that we reserved a triple. We complained to the porter and he called the front desk. We were told that a triple was not available, but may be available the next day. We explained that if our room was not available, we should be offered an upgraded room, not a downgrade! We were then offered a bungalow....same outdated furnishings, same musty smell. But it had three beds, so we moved the bags in and tried airing out the room. By this time it was almost 11:30pm, so there were NO restaurants still open on the property!! We went to town for a late dinner & then returned to the room.....it SMELLED AWFUL- the mildew smell was even worse than before. Once again, we called the front desk and told them the room smelled awful and that they should come to the room to see what was going on. They immediately said they would look for another room, but called back and said another triple was not available. We insisted on moving out of the room because the smell was unbearable and we suggested moving to the sister hotel, Terra Maris. They immediately made arrangements to move us to a bungalow at the Terra Maris, which was a much nicer property. Interestingly, they NEVER came by to smell the room.......because I am sure they know there is a problem with it!! Thankfully, they were accommodating with getting us moved to the other hotel, but it was a TERRIBLE experience!

Relaxing or sightseeing
A friend and I stayed at the Creta Maris the last of May for three nights. The hotel is ia large resort type hotel with over 500 rooms. We got to the hotel about 9 PM and were showed to a ground floor room that was supposed to have a mountain view. Instead it looked up at a rental car agency. Because we were two single women traveling together, we were very uncomfortable in a ground floor room with large patio doors. We contacted the front desk but they said they were booked and had no rooms with two beds available but that they would attempt to move us the next day. We contacted the front dest the next morning at 8:30 AM and were advised there was a room with a partial ocean view available and the second floor. We moved out things and found the partial ocean view with a partial construction area view, but felt safe. The rooms are OK, although nothing spectacular. We were pleased to find a balcony with chairs and a table until we realized there are a lot of mosquitos on Crete. Unfortunately, the windows and patio door had no screens so we were unable to leave them open. The hotel is obviously a busy convention hotel with very nice pool and beach area. If you are interested in relaxing and enjoying the sun and beach, this could be the place for you but if sightseeing is your thing, it's location is just so-so. The town itself has a lot of shops and cafes and it's a 10 minute walk to the local bus station. Lunch and dinner consist of a very large buffet which was good. There is a lovely patio bar, four lane bowling alley, billards room, etc. We heard from others on the bus that some of the hotels in Crete don't turn on the air conditioning until June 15th, so beware!

Great place !
We stayed here from 11th-21th in a seafront bungalow and it was just wonderfull. Great view, the sound of the sea while you trie to fall asleep... Very friendly and helpfull staff!! Rooms were allways clean. The food in the restaurants was very good. Breakfast at the seafront restaurant is exellent, if you like a quiet champagne breakfast that is... Pool was a bit cold but once you got in it was ok. Allways plenty free chairs and umbrellas so no " towelreservations" necessary...But there are always muppets that do it anyway... Great value for money!
Great Stay!
I stayed at the Creta Maris as a member of a tour group from April 26 to May 1, 2007. Our room overlooked the sea. The site was fabulous as were all aspects of the service. The hotel is right on the beach with both indoor (salt water) and outdoor pool, for those who didn't want to brave the cool Cretan Sea. Meals are varied, attractively presented and tasty. At all meals an excellent buffet is served and at dinner there is also an a la carte menu. There are many amenities as part of the complex, including shops, a spa, billiards and even ten pin bowling! The hotel is within easy walking distance of the town, which provides ample shopping. The rooms were comfortable and very well equipped, although they would benefit from upgrading of the decorating. Other than that, it was a wonderful place to stay!
Good choice for family vacation
The beach is great, the water is clear and almost without waves, great for the children! The service is generally good, the food is OK, not bad, although it can be better. The pool is OK, although no place and facilities for infants and chidlren. The bungalow is nice, much better choice than rooms in main buildings. Generally good choice for family vacation.
Great Hotel
We booked for October half term and were very pleased with the hotel and facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful and I have to thank the kids clubs staff and beach equipment guys for being so kind to my young pesky son. The food was good better at breakfast than dinner but no complaints. The only surprise was the temp of the outdoor pool it was freezing and underused because of this. You would have to be very hardy with a strong heart to dive in! Not many british people in the hotel mainly germans and french but all very nice. Lovely beach, town is quiet in october but we like quiet, we would def use this hotel again.
Creta Maris 01/09/2006 - 08/09/2006
We stayed at the Creta Maris from the 1st of September till the 8th of September. The hotel was very, very nice. We got an upgrade from a normal room to a bungalow. Very nice rooms, the only thing was that is was a room for smokers so there was a constant smell of cigarettes although we are non-smokers. The hotel was very, very clean thanks to an army of cleaners who were cleaning from morning till evening. The food was also very nice, the buffet changed daily, and there is always a choice of 3 main dishes wich are served at your table but you can also choose to go to the buffet as many times as you want. The hotel has 3 other restaurants and you are allowed to go to one of these for free once a week. We chose Pithos because it serves typical Cretan food and it is one of the few restaurants that has a label because it serves "Cretan diet", it was really nice but the quantity of food was very big, we had young cock, I think we had a cock each. The staff was very friendly except the ones at the pool bar at the small swiming pool. The first couple of days it was a male, he wasn't too friendly but at least the meals he prepared were nice. The last couple of days it was a women, she had that attitude of: don't you dare to disturb me, you bloody tourists, and the meals she prepared seemed like they were thrown on the plate from a distance. We rented a car for 4 days (125€) very handy and cheap considered that a return ticket by bus to Heraklion costs 5€. But be aware that the Cretan people are mad drivers and that the road sings are very bad. This was the very first time we went to Crete and we will certainly go back and stay at the same hotel.
We'll be back next year!
We stayed there from August 27 untill September 3th, stayed in a very nice bungalow It was really excellent! The buffets are really big, you've got plenty to take and a lot to choose from. Also much variety in the food. There are many theme evenings in the other restaurants like a greek night, a barbeque with live music, dance evenings... In the disco we had a music quiz, karaoke, 50's and 60's party... The staff was friendly. There was plenty room on the beach and at the swimmingpool. After a walk of 5 minutes you are in the centre of Hrsonissos with a lot of shops, restaurants and bars. I can recommend this hotel to everybody!
The unfriendliest staff I have ever seen anywhere
This June, I took my girlfriend with me on a medical conference to Creta Maris. I had noticed that reviewers were not reacting positively toward this hotel, but I thought that I should book this hotel because of the conference which was on the joint sister hotel, Terra Maris. Creta Maris is a mixture of different experiences. It has definitely the facilities of a five star hotel and the dress-code but when it comes to the staff it has been my worst experience. Some examples of the problems are that the staff: Did not answer phones from the rooms, Did not provide me with information regarding the conference location when I asked for their help Did not wake me up on time when I ordered wake-up call! Did not smile, Usually did not say hi, Brought the check before you had finished eating your food and before you asked for it, Etc… the list is long. On the bright side, it has a very good beach, warm in-door pool and rooms with ocean view are recommended. The rooms are very average and are more the level of a three-four star hotel and absolutely not five star. The breakfast was below average. For instance barely any fresh fruit except for apples when cherries melon and so on where in season outside the hotel. In summary on a scale of 1-10: Beach and pool: +8, Breakfast: +1, Room: +4 Staff: minus 10 (-10). I would not recommend this hotel.

Dear Trip Advisor Member, You hope you had a safe journey back and thank you very much for having stayed at our hotel. Following your e-mail dated on 26th June 2006 on the Trip Advisor Site, concerning your stay in Creta Maris Hotel, we would like to inform you that the complaints mentioned in this e-mail, do not reflect the quality of services, the accommodation standards and the respect we show to every individual guest in our hotel. First of all, please be sure that in the framework of our attempt to fully satisfy our guests, we do our best to solve all the problems on the spot. For this reason, we are truly disappointed for not having the chance to meet you personally and to have a discussion concerning all these matters mentioned in your e-mail. However, regarding your complaints about the quality of our staff, we would like to inform you that at the Creta Maris Hotel we pride ourselves on offering friendly and highly qualified staff. For this reason more than 30% of our total clientele returns back at the Creta Maris Hotel every year. Therefore, it seems strange to us the fact that our staff was not willing to help you with your needs and requirements. In your e-mail you mentioned that our staff did not say ‘Hi’. We agree with this because our staff always says ‘Hallo’ in Greek (Kalimera, Kalispera, Kalinikta) to make our guests to feel at home. Moreover, even if there is any case that our staff did not provide you with the directions for our Conference Centre, our well- organized Conference Team always provides a standard signing direction for each conference. In addition, regarding the arrangement of the bills at our restaurants, we would like to inform you that it is a legal requirement in Greece to locate the bill on the table when we serve the courses. Moreover, following your dissatisfaction regarding the variety of our breakfast, we would like to mention that more than 1500 persons are dining each day exclusively at Creta Maris and we never had any similar case reported. We hope that in the future we will have the chance to host you again so as to prove you that Creta Maris really cares for its guests, values their impressions and considers their suggestions. Yours sincerely, Mrs Korinna Alexandri Public Relations Manager
