At a distance of 21 km from Pompey's pillar, Greco-Roman museum in Alexandria overlooking the lush of King Farouk's summer palace on one side and the Mediterranean Sea on the other.
Spent 3 days at the Sheraton as part of a week long trip to Egypt.
The Sheraton is at the very end of the waterfront strip of ugly high-rise buildings that seem to dominate the landscape of Alexandria. The decor in the foyer is a tad tired, but the rooms are very well appointed with lovely wooden floors and tasteful & modern furnishings.
Only complaint is that the rooms are on the slightly small side, but all rooms appear to have a balcony, some of which overlook the ocean - we were lucky enough to get one of these and it had a great view. Bathroom has all the mod-cons, including a bidet.
Only place I got food poisoning was at the Sheraton during my two week trip to Egypt, at the main restaurant at the hotel. No ill effects from the breakfast on offer as part of the price of the room, but something from the dinner we had on the first night at the hotel, really upset my stomach quite badly.
The price at this restaurant were comparable to London restaurants, but the prices at the Italian also located in the hotel were very reasonable, around £1.70 for a main meal!
Other prices for items on offer - Water 1 litre about 11 LE (£1.10), Beer 24 LE (£2.40) 500ml bottle of Saqqara. There's a little shop around the side of the Sheraton, on the other side of the road, where water was quite cheap about 2LE a bottle.
