" A delightful Nile view room in the... "

A delightful Nile view room in the tower block, with free dressing gowns! What a great start to our holiday.

Clean, comfortable upgraded room - and wonderful value from Cosmos, even though we did not see the rep at all. We chose not to go to the 'welcome meeting', but no other contact was made, not even a comments sheet on the way home!

The hotel was busy this year, but too many guests seemed ill-at-ease with Luxor, preferring to huddle in the lobby at night, looking bored. What a shame! Part of Luxor's charm is strolling along the Corniche in the evening, like all the locals.

Some guests also felt the need to 'book' sunbeds with their own towels. The NWP, like every other 5* hotel in Egypt, gives you free (clean) towels every day by the pool, but at times it was a little like Spain in the 1970s...

Once a week the hotel is offering the chance to enjoy an Egyptian evening of entertainment and a buffet, in a beautifully decorated setting in the garden. Sadly few bothered to dress up or join in and so missed the chance to really enjoy themselves!

Used local travel agents to visit Aswan, booked a fabulous balloon flight direct with Sindbad for £25 each, and toured the lesser known Temples of Medinet Habu, Seti I and the Ramasseum using the ferry and a local cab. Also visited the 'new' temple of Merneptah: worth LE10 but expect to pay out more in tips as there are 4 separate buildings to be unlocked - 2 with painted reliefs, one with statues and a small 'museum'.

Looking forward to returning!

" We arrived for the first time in... "

We arrived for the first time in Egypt not knowing what to expect. It was a bit hectic as we were not told that we needed a visa, and judging by the number of other people who had to get one before entering who travelled with Thompson's, they hadn't been told either.

That was the only down side to the holiday. The rest was first class the hotel was fantastic the gardens and the pool area were also fantastic.

The Egyptians are really nice people (the only grumpy ones we meet were at the airport) they have a great sense of fun. The old winter palace is lovely there is a restaurant called 1886 it is a must (wine very pricey) the gents have to wear a shirt and tie, Lady's have to be dresses up to. Your meal is served on Silver platters and it’s all much civilised.

The Nile is a stone’s throw away and it is lovely. The Egyptians like to haggle and they try to get you into their taxis and horse drawn carriages. A tip just say maybe tomorrow and they will leave you alone, there isn't any need to been rude to them because they are lovely people...

Hotel rooms are really nice the towels are changed twice a day and your bed is turned down on a night for you it’s all just great stuff.

I would go back time and time again to the same hotel.

" Enjoyed a wonderful fortnight in this... "

Enjoyed a wonderful fortnight in this pleasant, friendly hotel, right next to the historic Winter Palace.

We were quite satisfied with our tower block room because we had found a bargain on the internet. If I was being picky, the furniture and decor were tired and dated and the bathroom was shabby, although spotlessly clean.

Fortunately, we didn't have to spend much time in the bathroom or criticising the furniture, as there was is much to do in Luxor.

Wonderful views over the gardens and the 'town-scape', which was fascinating at night when the minarets were lit up. The tower shares the pool and gardens with the pavilion and the Winter Palace, so guests have access to all the facilities.

Friendly staff, a glorious pool and beautiful, large gardens make this an oasis in the centre of the town. Right next to Luxor Temple and close to the ferry to the West Bank.

" This was our first time in Egypt.

This was our first time in Egypt.

We had a fantastic view of the Nile and the west bank from our hotel room. Luxor temple is right next to the hotel and its worth walking along to go and look round.

The hotel was fantastic, everybody was very friendly from the managers to the gardeners.
The pool was a god send as it was in the 40's everyday. You sign in and are provided with towels and an attendant puts the towels on the sun beds for you.

We did two trips one to the valley of the kings which was fantastic but far too hot when you are wandering around as it was over 50 degrees, and the other was the Fallahs tent evening which was good.

We were a bit put off by the hassle you get as soon as you walk outside the hotel but if you just ignore them you can wander around without any problems.

We went out for meals rather than staying in the hotel as it could be expensive, and I can recommend two places to go, the first is Smiley's Bar and the other is The Lantern. We paid roughly about £18 for two three course meals with 2 drinks.

We would definitely come back to The New Winter Palace again and a couple that we met have been going for the past 4 years.
