Carvoeiro Sol Hotel

Booked through Sunshine.co.uk and couldn't fault them, they e-mailed me before we went to make sure everything was okay and to say have a good time, which I thought was good.
The hotel was in an ideal location, right on the edge of a cobbled square which had a few nice restaurants and we were about 20 metres away from the beach.
Weather was amazing, food was great, and if you're looking for a holiday with lots to do at night i.e. bar, restaurants etc without having the club 18-30s vibe of Albufeira, it's a great place to visit. We’re both 30-somethings and the age range was just right for us.
Only down side was the hotel which was pretty basic (although very clean) and definitely not the four stars that it was advertised as.
Also disappointed in the attitude of the staff. Every time I’ve been to Portugal in the past I’ve been amazed by the friendliness of the locals, but the people who worked in the hotel were surly and not very helpful at all, in fact we felt we were being a burden if we had the cheek to order a cheese toastie!!
The pool is also a nightmare if you like to try to get a tan because it is enclosed by tall buildings and you have to chase the sun round the pool throughout the day - also a very nasty smell from the drains which wafted around at regular intervals.
It’s all about location, location, location though and definitely recommend Carvoiero - eating drinking, generally having a good time and lots of nice walks as well.
