Fantastic huge beds....
from operator1166
We have just returned from a 4 day break at Solferias Apartments and my only disappointment is that we didnt book for longer!!. The apartment we had had 2 huge double beds in it, much better (especially if its hot). The air-conditioning was great, as when we were there the weather was absolutely scorching! The beach is lovely, only downfall is the price of the beds and brolly (15 euros) ouch!!, The village itself is beautiful, when I read other reviews stating it was a fishing village, I was expecting a very quiet sleepy village, it was none of that. It was a lovely village with plenty of bars and restaurants, (no lager louts though even though England played Sweden while we were there). The apartments are on top of the hill, but we used to get the 9.20 bus down to the village, and the 5.30 bus back up, then a cab (4 euros) down in the evening (although theres another bus at 5.30 to go back down) and then a cab 5 euros back up in the late evening. One suggestion I would make is that they have one more trip down at around 8 p.m, this would be great! One of the best restaurants there is the Jota Lita, very friendly staff and the food is absolutely beautiful. All in all it was a very enjoyable break, would certainly come back.
Nice but early season

Solferias Aparthotel is in a nice location but a car is almost essential due to the hill it sits upon. We arrived quite late and everything was set-up except the cot we had booked for our eight month old baby. The person on the front desk explained he The kitchen was also a disappointment, there was no microwave or electric kettle, the kettle provided took ages to boil on the hob and with a baby this was very inconvienient. The pool was very cold and it was dirty when we first arrived, although it was cleaned by day 3. Positive points The view from our room was spectacular, we looked over the pool and gardens which were quite pretty, but the views over the sea were great. The rooms were clean and huge, the baby had much fun crawling all over the place. All in all a decent base but with a small amount of expense could be so much better. With all the little problems it did spoil our holiday slightly, but the Algarve is a beautiful part of the world and should be visited at least once. We will return but we will not stay in the Solferias Apartments.
Wonderful!

My husband and two kids have just returned from a fortnights holiday to the Solferias Apartments in Carvoeiro and can't fault it. We had a huge one bedroomed apartment on the top (fourth) floor which was comfortable and spotlessly clean. The room overlooked the car park but had wonderful views over the charming town of Carvoeiro and across to the sea. The staff were very friendly and helpful. As the first week of our holiday was half term week we were expecting crowds but our lucky kids had the pool to themselves for most of the time, which was brilliant, and there were always sunbeds available. I would strongly recommend hiring a car should you stay at the Solferias because the walk up the hill after visiting the town was very strenuous, particulary in the heat. We always managed to find a parking space in the town and parking was free, as long as you didn't use the small car park right in the centre. The town of Carvoeiro was lovely - with plenty of restaurants to choose from. We tried many of them, but I would recommend La Lanterne and the Indiano (indian restaurant) which has magnificent views over Carvoeiro beach. Wouldn't recommend Tia Ilda - overpriced and food was poorly presented. All in all it was a super holiday - we enjoyed it so much that we're planning to go again same time next year and hopefully back to the Solferias. Thoroughly recommended.
Lovely base, quiet location, great staff. Would go back.

When we arrived at this place I thought "Oh no". It looked really dated and in need of a revamp but actually it became part of the charm of the place. It was immaculate. The staff were so helpful and it was just a lovely place to base ourselves when spending a few days in the sun. Do beware that it is at the top of a hill about 1/2 a mile outside the main part of the resort but I actually quite liked that. It meant that it was quiet and didn't have loads of traffic going by. I'd definitely go back again.
Fantastic value, lovely staff

This was an excellent find - my partner and I stayed here for one week and had a wonderful time. The location was lovely and quiet, although the walk up the hill was a bit intense after a few drinks - a taxi back from town only cost a couple of quid! The rooms, although a little dated, were comfortable large and clean. The pool area is lovely with lots of room so you never feel too crowded. The bar was great with friendly staff and a great selection of cocktails! I would recommend this hotel to both families and couples. It was fantastic value for money and made an excellent base for a holiday and a good place to chill out when you did not feel like going to the beach or exploring the towns.

Solferias value for money

Stayed at the Solferias in May and had a completely relaxing and stress free holiday. Yes the decor does need updating, but the room ( a studio ) was spotless, cleaned everyday, it was quiet ( but out of season ) with no kids( bliss! ) . The staff were friendly and helpful ( hello to Jose, David and the rest of the gang), we'll definately go back.
Lovely resort, friendly staff

We stayed at the Solferias Aparthotel during the Euro 2004 football finals in June 2004. It was the first time I had booked a hotel / flight / car hire separately and was a little worried whether the lack of a rep would be a problem...but I had nothing to worry about as it turned out to a fantastic holiday. I had read reviews about the dreaded hill that leads into the centre of Cavoeiro from the hotel and yes, it is pretty steep! Not a real problem if you have strong legs, but no good if you have have to use a wheelchair (in this case a car is a must). It is a lovely little hotel, with friendly staff and felt clean and well maintained....although the deor is a little outdated. Carvoeiro is a lovely little town, beautiful sandy beach set near the main square. There is a choice of two Chinese and one Indian restaraunts that kept us fed for two weeks, I must have put on a stone when I was there! We do hope to go back there for a short break in the next couple of years as we enjoyed our time there.
peaceful location and excellent staff

We stayed at the Solferias in February 2005, out of season as reflected in the reasonable room rate. It is located up a very, very steep hill whichever way you go into the town. However, after 3 nights here we were getting extremely fit, although I would not like to try to walk this in the height of summer in the heat! Car hire recommended and there is a spacious car park with shady areas. The gardens at the rear of the hotel are quiet and peaceful and there is a swimming pool surrounded by a grassy area. The restaurant which is owned by the hotel is a couple of miles away overlooking the sea, again up a steep hill, but with lovely food and service. Continental Breakfast can be supplied to your room but before 10am so not for us late risers! The staff in the hotel were extremely polite and very helpful and friendly. The rooms are very dated with dark brown ceilings and furnishings, and rather shabby carpets and bedding and I do feel that the official 4 star rating was obtained some time ago. The town of Carvoeiro itself is a lovely clean place with gorgeous sandy coves and plenty of good restaurants.
Lovely hotel in a charming resort

Seeing the review of this hotel, I really don't think it does it justice. Although it is dated in design it really is in a blissfully peaceful location and operated by excellent staff. The bar area is definetly staight out of the 70's but there are bars in London that try and fail miserably to match its kitsch style ( you'd pay a fortune in Camden for the light fittings ). I enjoyed walking the steep hill on the way to the resort center, and you certainly burn the calories off from your dinner in town on the way back. Around the pool is mainly lawned so you can relax if your children are running around knowing that if they fall it probably will not be on the paved area. Rooms are air conditioned and spacious and come with a T.V and basic appliances. Carvoiero is a very nice town with wonderful restaurants, a clean beach and only a couple of bars, so you probably will not encounter any drunk louts.
This hotel was a total disappointment!! It is described as a 4 star hotel and maybe it was when it was built in the 70's, unfortunately it looks like it hasn't been touched since! I would say it is a 1 star hotel. It is situated on the top of a winding and very steep... more
