My wife and I have stayed in many hotels in Benidorm and I would rate this one amongst the better ones. We live in Spain and very often go away for a few days break and often to Benidorm. The web site said tea and Coffee making facilities in the room but this was not the... more

Hotel was clean and food was average. Waiting and bar staff pleasant but let down by the rude and unhelpful reception staff who couldn't even lift their head when asked a question! The limited entertainment was geared towards the Spanish tourists and the show presented by... more

We have been putting off going to Benidorm for some time due to its tacky reputation, but we decided to have a short break there in November. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it was, and how nice the Poseidon Playa hotel was too. The hotel is situated on the... more

Went to this hotel for 4days on a a hen party, it was a bit far out from the main town and we had to get taxis every night, as the entertainment in the hotel was the worst i have ever had. Perfect if you are 60+ as it was old time dancing. It was as if we had all gone back... more

The hotel was really clean and well kept. Our beds were always made and the hotel staff were really friendly. The hotel is full of Spanish people, not many English at all. Around the pool no one spoke a word of English. Me and my friend were the only English there. In... more

Hotel spotless, staff friendly, food was always varied and fresh. Lovely 15 minute walk into old town. Every room has a sea view and the beach is just across the road from the hotel. The only down side to the hotel is the entertainment ,it consists of a dreary Spanish... more

great views shame about the pool
Have just spent 10 great days with my husband at the Posiedon Playa hotel.Booked independantly on internet, was concerned maybe room would not be there etc,no need to worry, arrived early and was checked in and taken to room in time for lunch.Food was very good.Smoked Salmon, prawns, ham cut off the bone and Bucks fizz for breakfast in the morning. Will admit food got boring in the 2nd week, got fed up with salads,so ate out a couple of times, great tapas bars and sea food places a few minutes bus ride away in old Benidorm town, jewellers shops there to die for!Hotel was spotlessly clean, rooms good size, sadly a couple of pieces of jewellery did walk, whilst I left the room for a few minutes, but should have put them in the safe we did pay for the use of it.The pool was a bit on the small size and the water was absolutely freezing,my husband refused to use it,als had loud music blaring out from spaeakers at the pool side, not great if you want a quiet afternoon. The view from th e balcony was great, right on the beach ,lovely at night was on the 17th floor.((top floor). All in all had a great time, would recommend this hotel, one thing though, lifts not many and small, have to queue a long time. Will be booking again.
enjoyed it
just come back {12/6/04}from the poseidon playa.we went for 2 weeks ,myself ,2 kids & mum & dad . yes ,it was full of spanish pensioners , but we learned to live with them . romms were a bit on the small side for 3 , but kept very clean by the maids . food was great , views 2nd to none . no problem getting into old benidorm , bus outside . cheaper still , a taxi . the bar staff made our holiday , had a great laugh with them. liked the hotel , but would not stay here again , too far out . the entertainment was for the spanish , but we joined in .after all , a holiday is what you make it .
Good all round hotel
Hotel was very nice and clean and in an excellent location to be able to "take it or leave it". The staff in general were very nice, but had 1-or-2 problems with a 'particular' "misery guts" behind the bar that had forgotten how to smile! The food in general was very nice. but the menu is on a weekly rolling rota, so it can get a bit monontonous if you stay for 2 weeks. The local shops nearby are very well equipted and very friendly, especially the pizza place round the corner (luigi's) The beach is lovely is you manage to get on it before it gets too hot! The pool area is nice but as other people have said it does get crowded. The hotel does state in the 'rules' that you must not book the sunbeds (but people do!) Spanish holiday makers are very rude and arrogant and do try to push past you at the lifts/restaurant etc., All-in-all a very good place to stay, though.
Great place!
Stayed at the Posiedon Playa for one week in May 2004. There were four of us in our party, including my mother ( a pensioner). We had the most wonderful holiday there. The rooms were very clean, and all the staff very friendly.Wonderful view from the hotel balcony. We requested a low floor as mother has slight walking problems. This was a good idea as the lifts are very busy and walking up or down the stairs would have been a problem (especially if we had been on the 17th floor). The food was very good and catered well for all tastes. The entertainment in the bar in the evenings was very good, thanks to Hugo and his team. Probably more suited to the older rather than the younger generation. Bus rides are 85 cents whether you go one stop or to the terminus. A trip to the busier Levante area by taxi is around 4 euros. The lovely beach is just across the road ( you can use a subway if you wish). So if you want a restful holiday with a good hotel and good service you've struck lucky. Enjoy!
Our first family holiday with a baby and a two year old
IN 1997, we took our first 'real' family holiday to Spain; with a 9month old, a 2 year old and a double buggy. We had a fantastic time. The Poseidon Playa was superb. Great location, quiet enough for the kids, yet a great walk into Benidorm central. The Hotel was immaculate, the food superb; our baby daughter was weaned there as it didn't matter how much food she tried AND wasted! The staff genuinely cared and had lots of time for us and made a massive fuss of the children. We liked the fact that the beach was a stone's throw away. The other guests were really friendly and yes there were lots of Spanish there, who can be pushy, but it didn't spoil it for us. There seemed lots of entertainment on if you wanted to join in and the evening entertainment was varied too, with children's games early on and then your typical guest Flamenco dancers etc. Typical Spanish fare really. Food - did I mention that - was scrummy. Surprise, surprise we are going to revisit the hotel this summer at the end of August for a week. we've been to Benidorm four times since then and never stayed in Poniente since and never since found the quality of the Posedon Playa. So we shall see. We hope it doesn't disappoint, but reading all the other points of view it seems that the hotel is a hidden gem in Benidorm's crown. A top hotel.
Never take travel agents advice
Well, we were told by going places this would be a good hotel, 3 of us went, 2 17 yr olds and one 16. def not the place for us, the food was ok but the same every day, about 2miles from the town centre and clubs so too far really. the maid stole 140 euros out of our room so i strongly advise a safety deposit box. keep everything locked away. she even broke a seal of a bag containing a 100 euro crystal lion. but lukily didnt take it. when it was reported reception were not helpful at all. the people nxt door sed they thought it was rubbish. the hotel was clean in genaral but full of coffin dodgers smoking making it stink foul. will not ever come back.
Shame about the weather
Hotel Poseidon Playa, Benidorm 27/04/04 - 04/05/04We only had a week but we did have rain. The Hotel is about half a mile maybe more from the Old Town of Benidorm but it is a very good hotel The rooms were clean and of good size, the staff were brilliant ever eager to help with any questions etc. We travelled with First Choice and their on sit rep was also extremely helpful. The food was very good in the restaurant it has a very good choice every day.If you book the all inclusive package holiday and ask for one of their packed lunches you will most likely end up bringing some back there is almost enough for two in each bag.On the few days we had that were nice we went out wondering into the old town and looking round the shops. Both my husband and myself have problems walking and we found it OK walking into town but we usually had to take a bus back, only 84 cents. We also made it out to Mundamar, that was great especially the dolphin show. We had a discount by booking through the hotel and it cost us aout 8 euros in the taxi each way. Even though the weather let us down we had a great week
party time poseiden style
myself wife, and my son(18) and my wifes parents went to the poseiden playa nov 1st 2003 for 2 weeks it was one of the best holidays we have ever had weather was very good staff hotel food was excellent as some one pointed out their was a lot of spanish pensioners there and most were up for a good laugh the games in the daytime were excellent and most people joined in (including my mother in law who also won some games she never played before at this time of year their is a fiesta on that lasts all week with lots of fireworks we met lots of people who go to this hotel every year and who have become firm friends we will all be meeting up this november again at the poseiden playa for another great time
Party Time
Eighteen of us (aged 15 - 66) visited the hotel for New Year. Although the hotel was closing for a couple of months the day after we were due to leave there was no obvious sign of this. All Inclusive with Direct Holidays. We had a great party week with lovely weather as well. The views from the hotel are magnificent. The staff were fantastic and the food and drink much better than we expected. The Gala Dinner was superb. As you can tell we have nothing but praise for this hotel and would not hesitate to go back next year. We probably will. If you want a really good New Year party, Benidorm is the place to be.
Great Hotel
Totally agree with last reviewer of 9/11/03. Must have been there at the same time, although we were there for 2 weeks. Would not hesitate to return to the Hotel as organisation, cleanliness etc were of the highest order. Slightly spoiled by the attitude of some of the Spanish pensioners, but most of them were very pleasant. I would imagine in high season you would have great trouble getting anywhere near the poolside. Thanks to the staff for a very pleasant time.
