Novotel Athenes Hotel

we had a SAD experience, with NO sleep for the 3 nights we spent here. At 20 degrees centigrade outside, the AC is not working and heating is on!! We were asked to open the windows and sleep(in a 4 star hotel, no AC!!), which made it so noisy that we got no sleep and would spend all night opening and closing windows in the effort to cut out the sound from the street. The hotel was the best part of our trip! Brand new bathrooms, beautiful fixtures, plasma tv's on bedroom wall, soft sheets. Accepted our little poodle Max for extra 7Euro/night.Great value for us at 83euro per night plus \pet fee. We were not impressed with the neighborhood, but both hubby and I did not mind the walk to either the Larissa Station or Victoria Station. The hotel itself is nice enough with updated rooms and nice bathrooms. However, the location isn't ideal for being on vacation since the metro is a 15 minute walk and there's nothing in the local area for dining. The neighborhood is gritty and working class, but not unsafe as people are out and about. The price was good, but I would have stayed near the parliament or within walking distance of it, as I've done before. By doing so, you'd be exposed to a more sophisticated view of Athens (but alas probably a more costlier one as well.)

Arrived and was impressed by the hotel lobby which had only been refurbished. We booked through Expedia and thought it was a 3 star or 4. It ended up to be a 5 star. When we were told there was a pool on the roof, we were in heaven! We got our room key and went up to our room. The bed was very comfortable and couch pulled out to be a bed for our two kids. We stayed here after we missed our ferry to Syros Island due to flight delays through Amsterdam. The area is not great, and the room was tiny and smelled musty. The rooftop pool has AMAZING views, but is a little run down and has horribly slippery tiles, so for goodness sake be careful, especially with kids! There is also a slippery slope to the deep end, so its really dangerous. We found a non-cancellation "hot deal" for 65 Euro's per night on the Internet for this Novotel Athens, and couldn't let this offer go. People frequently complain that Novotels are identical around the globe and therefore lack the local atmosphere, but to be frank, we weren't looking for a cosy typically Greek hotel, with probably a lot of atmosphere but possibly a lot of discomfort as well.
