Akti Olous Hotel Reviews
" A widower I have travelled alone to... "

A widower I have travelled alone to Elounda for 9 yrs, staying at Despina and Anna Apts. This year in June, I stayed with family at the Akti. The rooms were spotless, the service excellent and the location couldn't be faulted. In the many years I've stayed in elounda I've found the locals always friendly and willing to spend time with you. The Akti staff is no exception and reception staff most helpful with local knowledge. We ate at various tavernas, have never found a bad one yet, but Costa at the Paradiso about 400metres from the Akti on road to Ag Nik goes out of his way to satisfy the customers old and young, with a great menu and nice surroundings.
I still regard Elounda as home from home and will not hesitate to book at the Akti again. A family friendly clean hotel in a friendly town. I am Mr Ron to many locals, my daughter as I write this has booked a return and is already there, enough said.. R Masters

The Akti Olous Hotel is situated off the main Elounda road, where you head off to the Spinalonga peninsula, it is right at the water’s edge and is perfectly suited for a peaceful holiday in Crete.
The Hotel is well run and the staff are pleasant & helpful. The rooms were adequate but small and the balconies could only be described as tiny.
We had some prior warning of the building next door to the North which really did spoil our otherwise magnificent views.
The swimming pool on the roof provided some brilliant views over Elounda & Spinalonga, as did the bar on the same floor; unfortunately this was never open while we were there. The pool was quite deep so you would have to be careful allowing kids to use it unattended, but as with the rest of the hotel it was kept very clean.
We were booked on B&B which I was glad about! The idea of filling up with a hearty breakfast to set you up for the day never materialised as the choice consisted of Yoghurt fruit, cheese spam, flakes muesli mini franks, & plastic eggs (every day).
The evening menu was in a similar vein, no choice & a bit mean.
There are some pleasant Tavernas between the hotel & the village (10 min walk) where you can spend the evenings.
Overall we had a nice relaxed holiday in Elounda and were glad to visit the area while it still has a village atmosphere.

We had a fantastic holiday and Elounda was the perfect place for us to go for the total rest and relaxation we both needed.
The hotel was clean rooms were spotless and were cleaned daily with clean sheets and towels every other day. The staff were very helpful.
We went bed and breakfast which was ample for us although the hotel does do half board. However, from what we saw of the evening meal it didn’t look too appetizing.
We ate out every evening and for the first week walked into Elounda town where we had some tasty meals at Zorbas Place and the Calypso (the calypso was more up market and slightly more expensive.
The second week we ate mostly at Thalassomylos which is found if you turn left out of the hotel and walk for about five minutes towards the town.
Ask for Niko he is brilliant and we had a fantastic mixed fish platter there which consisted of a Greek salad mixed fish platter to share between 2 plate of chips rice and vegetables each ice cream and a carafe of wine all for 30 euros. Delicious!
We would definitely go to Elounda again. Don’t forget to go to Spinalonga but book the tickets from the harbour it’s cheaper than through the tour operator.10 euros each.

" We stayed at this hotel for two weeks... "

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks starting 29th August 2006. The hotel was ok.
Rooms are clean but quite small and the shower room/ toilet too small. We stayed in room 101 which did have a nice big terrace and a sea view. Most balconies are small. There is building being built on the left hand side of the hotel which blocks out almost all of the sea views from the balconies on that side.
The breakfast wasn’t too bad a fair amount of choice. The best thing is that you can take it outside and sit on the waters edge with a beautiful view. The rooftop pool is small but with the most beautiful panoramic views of Elounda. The pool bar shuts at 5.30pm which was a shame as it also had fantastic views. The hotel restaurant called The Blue Sea is excellent as is the Mellissos (next door).
For us the best thing about the hotel is its position in Elounda only a 10 minute slow walk by the sea past lovely tavernas and restaurants until you get to the harbour and square.
If you have booked to stay here don’t be put off the Hotel is what it is a 2/3* and for the amount of time that you spend in it absolutely fine. Because of its position I would stay in it again. Elounda is magical you will love every minute of your stay!

It is located on a service road along the beach. Parking is limited and may be difficult in high season the hotel is in 2 buildings linked by a path in the open air.
The rooms and all service area were kept very clean; and towels and bed linen were changed during the week on a regularly or necessary basis.
If our room is typical, they are simply and adequately furnished and most have a balcony. TV services are limited.
In September we did not find it necessary to use the air conditioning system in the room, preferring to leave either the windows or louvered shutters in place.
Rooms in the front building on 1 side at low level may have little or no view due to an adjacent unfinished building.
The front building comprises 4 storeys: ground floor is restaurant, and kitchen, small lounge 2 floors of accommodation and 4th floor roof-top pool and large-sitting area. This has splendid views over the apparently enclosed bay of Spinalonga in one direction and the bay beyond the causeway to Spinalonga where the up-scale hotels are all located. It is a pity that the hotel doesn't make more use of this floor as a restaurant etc.
The rear building has 2 floors of accommodation, though there is apparently a 3rd floor.
The main inconvenience is the short walk to the dining room and to the roof-top swimming pool.
From these rooms and with windows open, there is also a little early, morning traffic noise though it is not bad.
The pool is adequately provided for with sunbeds, toilets etc. though there are no showers. The pool is not heated. A chimney exits at roof level which might cause problem depending on the weather.
The hotel has its own small beach on the other side of the service road with room for about 30 sunbeds only. The sea was much warmer and just as convenient for swimming! There are showers on the beach.
The dining room is comfortable at ground level.
Breakfast consists of a simple buffet with adequate selection of cereal (muesli or cornflakes), yoghurt, tinned fruit (always peaches or quartered fresh oranges); choice of beverage - tea, coffee, cocoa, fruit juice etc. Boiled eggs - mostly hard, and one cooked dish - scrambled or fried eggs, variety of usually 3 forms of cold meats, 3 cheeses, cucumber and fresh tomato; brown/white bread or indifferent croissant, variety of plain cakes.
We ate in the Blue Sea restaurant belonging to the hotel most days, either lunch and/or dinner. The service was good and helpful and there was a good selection of Greek style and international dishes. Prices of food and wines were competitive with other local restaurants.
Elounda is a pleasant tourist resort which does not have many noisy over-powering restaurants or bars unlike some other Greek resorts - we came through Malia and other resorts on the way back to the airport and realise how good our choice of resort had been.
Elounda is unlikely perhaps to satisfy young boisterous customers!
