A wonderfully friendly relaxing base for exploring the area.

"Jill is an excellent host, nothing was too much trouble.

Breakfast taken on the terrace outside our room, and our two evening meals were delicious and the picnics sustaining.

Our apartment was spacious and comforable, and very well appointed for self -catering.

As walkers we found it an excellent centre for the mountains and the beautiful coastline, and after walking all day, the honesty bar was very welcome!

We have nothing but the highest of praise for all aspects of our week long holiday in this idyllic spot.

P.W. & S.S. South West Shropshire.

A great place for a family holiday

"This is a beautiful place to stay, very good accommodation, a very warm welcome, superb breakfast provided. The pool is excellent and very warm. Good childrens' play area. There is a lovely rood terrace with a barbecue which guests can uses. A few miles from Meia Preia beech which has windsurfing (tends to be an offshore wind, but when not offshore sea was quite rough). Excellent coastal and inland walking, maps and instructions available. 1 hour drive from Faro. The dogs are friendly but very much around, tend to walk off with shoes and leave the odd turd around. Otherwise thoroughly recommended"

Everything for a wonderful holiday

"We had a wonderful week at Quinta das Achadas in March. The purpose of our visit was for a walking holiday and it proved to be an great location with easy access to both the beautiful coast and the Monchique hills. It was also nice to have Laos and its old town centre nearby.

The Quinta itself proved to be a pretty little haven, in attractive landscaped grounds, set amongst fields, but a stone's throw down the track from the quiet main road. Our apartment, which had been decorated and furnished tastefully and with a good deal of flair had all home comforts. Jill and Julio, the friendly and welcoming owners, worked hard to ensure that we were very well catered for and had everything we needed for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. This place suited us (a couple in our fifties) down to the ground but it would equally please younger couples and families with its nice pool, sunbathing facilities and a well-equipped and safe play area set apart from the main buildings. We wouldn't hesitate to go there again.

A friendly welcome for all ages

"I stayed at the Quinta das Achadas for 9 nights in March 2009 with a family group of 7 people aged from 3 to 71. We had one two-bedroomed apartment with one double and one twin (plus small child on a mattress on the floor in parents' room) and also a separate twin room. All bedrooms had ensuite facilities and the maid tidied up, cleaned the bathrooms and made the beds every day (except Sunday). The apartment had self-catering facilities and although not great it was adequate for us to do our own cooking from produce bought locally, including the excellent Lagos farmers' market.

There were a few downsides:

The 3 dogs were friendly once they got to know us, but the cat who liked to sleep on the patio table (tablecloth never changed) and chairs was not.

There was a slightly unkempt feel to the place - particularly lots of dust and cobwebs everywhere (worst were top of fridge and under all the furniture). It could definitely have been cleaner.

We are early risers normally so took a while to get used to the leisurely breakfast starting at 9 am. Lots of local information was available from our hosts Jill and Julio.

If we had know about the 3 dogs (must have missed that when reading the TA reviews) and that the 'heated' pool was never heated we would probably have booked elsewhere.

The weather was fantastic and if we had realised it would be so warm we would probably have booked somewhere within walking distance of a beach.

Overall I would say we had a good experience and might even consider going there again now we know what to expect.

Peace, Great Company and Great Food

"Having sworn never to do 'repeat holidays', we find outselves returning to the Quinta over and over. Why? Because within half an hour of arrival, the sheer beauty, peace and friendliness of the place just take over. Jill, Julio and their lovely daughter Izzy, are just so naturally friendly and welcoming that your cares just slip away. They are never intrusive - if you want to be left alone, then that's fine. Or you can find yourself sharing a bottle of wine with them and chatting away the hours after a day by the pool. Jill's breakfasts are just the ticket and as several people have already said, make sure you make it to one of her dinner evenings. Tasty, home cooked food with no pretensions and loads of great wine, all for a very reasonable price. And no matter the background of the other guests who may be there, after the first course you'll feel that you've known them all your lives thanks to the ease with which Jill and Julio keep the conversation flowing.

Loads of stunning beaches within easy reach, great restaurants in Lagos and the all the benefits of the beautiful Algarve without one moment feeling you are in the tourist trap.

The rooms are spotless and nicely furnished and there's a 'trust' bar if you just fancy a G & T or a glass of wine over lunch, Nothing is too much for the hosts to make your stay as memorable and pleasant as they can. An absolute jewel and a true oasis in the Algarve.

Wonderful place

"We stayed at this Quinta for a week. It's actually situated in Odiaxère, 5km from Lagos.

The location is perfect. In the middle of the Algarve with al interesting places and beaches within driving distance of 1 hour. Examples: beautiful (and deserted) beaches on the west and south coast, cities like Lagos, Albufeira and Monchique and the beautiful environment of the Algarve.

The Quinta itself is runned by a Portugese / British couple. They both speak perfectly English and take care of the Quinta and the guests themselves. They take care of the breakfast feasts every morning and you can 'hire' them to cook dinner for you, even for a whole bunch of people. Special wishes? They make your stay as easy as you like.

There 2 guest rooms and 3 appartments. We stayed in a guest room which gives you enough space. The bedroom is big with a double bed, some closets and a tv with a satellite receiver. In the hallway to the bathroom you'll find a refrigerator with a fridge and everything you need to make tea and coffee. The bathroom has a toilet, a splendid shower and a washing table with enough space to place all you toilet stuff next to the table.

At the Quinta domain you'll find a swimming pool, a play ground in the garden for the kids, a lawn to play at and a terrace with a barbecue and a fantastic view of the environment.

We had a wonderful stay here and enjoyed our time in the environment, at the beach and at the swimming pool.

We keep returning.

"A 5 apartment converted farmhouse. Three apartments are self-contained with kitchen and lounge. Two of these have two double bedrooms with en-suite bathroom/shower. The other has a double bedroom with en-suite. The remaining two apartments have a double bedroom with shower. Each apartment has a private terrasse with table and chairs. Breakfast is included in the price and is served on the patio. Jill is an excellent cook and if she announces that she is preparing a dinner, grab the opportunity with both hands.

The Quinta has a beautiful garden, a salt-water swimming pool and a jacuzzi.

We have been going to the Quinta in Spring and Summer for the past twelve years since retirement. In these seasons, the roads are quieter, the restaurants less full and the Quinta tends to be child-free.

Algarve Class

"Having just spent a week at the wonderful Quinta das Achadas

i feel it necessary to tell everyone. from the genuine warm arrival from Jill and Julio we ere made to feel very much at home. Our apartment Bougainvilla was elegantly furnished and had a wonderful atmosphere. Well equipped it lacked for nothing. The quinta itself has an all over warm feeling mainly due to its very relaxing nature wether you are sunbathing by the pool, reading a book in the cabana, being massaged in the jacuzzi or just realaxing on your terrace, the Quinta had something for everybody. So much so that we have told both our children that they must take there families there. Did I mention the childrens play area, football ground and the most endearing pot belly pigs and three lovelly dogs.

One of the things that makes the stay at the quinta so nice is Jills wonderful breakfast and the great meals in the evening. All in all a great place and we will definetly be going back.
