Hotel Sokullu Pasa

We had just a short overnight stay in this hotel, from 26 to 27 December, between a late airplane and an early morning trip. I really liked the hotel and the Hotel staff. They were quite nice and helpful with luggage, easing the task of carrying the luggage up to the room (no lift available, since this is an old building). The hotel is located in a nice old building, with a cozy and traditional Turkish feeling. The rooms were reasonable, with classic decoration, and the one we got had two windows, with a nice view over a nearby mosque (see attached photo) and the Marmara sea. The location, quite near the Blue Mosque and 5 minutes from the Sulthanamet center, is OK. The only big problem was the room temperature. The night we stayed at the Hotel the outside temperature was around 0ºC. Heating in the room was provided only by a standard air conditioning unit operating in inverted mode. According to my experience at home, while these units do a reasonable heating job when the outside temperature is above 5-6ºC, they do not work well below this threshold and alternative heating equipment is advisable... To worse a little bit, since this is a medium range hotel in an old building, window insulation is poor. Therefore, in spite of leaving the unit switched on all the night, the room temperature stayed too low. Using the bathroom in the morning with these low temperatures was in fact a pain. In summary, I would say that this is probably a very good choice and nice hotel in Spring/Summer, but it must be avoided it in peak winter times until the owners correct the heating system.
