Best Western President Hotel Reviews

Aug 2007, Mrs G Parrott

We were initially worried - going for the first time as independent travellers without the safety net of reps, transfers and welcoming parties - that it was all going to go horribly wrong. Well, we needn't have - it was simple. You arrive and buy your visa at the airport at... more

Great Experience
we have stayed for 3 days in this hotel celebrating a wedding aniversary our observation are as follows :A great customer service and very helpful staff, great location which is very accessible to major city attractions & transport, airport is about 25 minutes and taxi cost about 25 lira (if no traffic), very decent breakfast with a nice view in the 6th floor, dining facilities are a bit over priced comparing with other outside quality restaurants, if it's the first time to visit istanbul i would recommend making all your guide reservation with plan tours a huge great company with excellent service and very decent prices, we took almost 2 full days with them and got us explored most of city attractions , cost is almost 75$ a day including lunch (fair), we would go again to this hotel if we will have the same fares, by the way booking through the hotel website was the cheapest and also offered a free airport pick up. hope this will help !
Pay extra for facilities
A good location for tourist spots in the Old City, with Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque within a 10-minute walk, and the Grand Bazaar at 100m. Useful Tramvay (Tram) stop at the top of the street (Beyazit Stop). Access from Ataturk Airport is possible via Metro / Tramvay (2 tickets @1.30Y each), or Taxi (25-30Y). Standard double room is small, with just a bed, small desk and wardrobe. Nevertheless, the room is immaculately clean, as is the bathroom. No face towels in bathroom. Heating or AC works well. Wifi is free, but the signal in the room was weak (much better in corridor). Unfortunately, while the pool and gym are included, use of the sauna and jacuzzi are an extra 10Euro per day. Breakfast is not great: large choice of cold breads and meats; fruit salad is mainly tinned fruit; cooked food is limited to egg, fried bread and unusual pepparami-like sausage; juices are not fresh. Hotel staff are helpful, although I was surprised to be asked to pay for the phone call when asking them to reconfirm my flights. Overall, good for the money paid (check discount sites or the hotel webpage), but by no means a luxury hotel.
Wonderful staff, great hotel!
I am just completing a 6-night stay at this hotel and I have been so very pleased with the experience here. Having never before been to Istanbul and coming here alone for work, but also wanting to see as many sights as possible, I searched all the websites and Tripadvisor trying to find a decent place. The Best Western President totally lived up to my expectations and more! I have never met more warm and welcoming staff -- they are so very, very kind and friendly, and extremely service oriented. The hotel itself is large but not anonymous and the rooms are clean, comfortable and a good size. Breakfast is very plentiful and has a nice variety of hot and cold, turkish and european/north american. At this time of the year it is, of course, served indoors but on the 6th floor with lovely view of the Marmara and the city. The location is excellent and safe, just down a little side street from the Beyazit tram stop and approximately five minutes from the Grand Bazaar. Probably not more than 10 minutes from the Sultanahmet Mosque (Blue Mosque) and the AyaSophia and also walking distance from the Spice Market and the ferries at Eminonu. Many little restaurants all over the area and tram down to the bridge and across the Golden Horn works well. I will definitely recommend this hotel and, should I return to Istanbul, I will stay here again. So many thanks to all the staff here who all helped to make me feel so welcome and at home -- I won't mention their names in this public forum, but they know who they are! It's been a great experience!
Well-located hotel, helpful staff
This is a good three star hotel, with an excellent service culture. Everyone from the doorman to the cashier, the restaurant waiter, the concierge and the hotel shopkeeper was pleasant, helpful and positive. The rooms are large and comfortable, with all the little touches eg duvets instead of blankets, blackout curtains. Location is excellent, within walking distance of Hagia Sofia and the historic sites. This hotel should rank higher than it does. This will be my choice for future visits to Istanbul.
Great deal
A group of 5 booked two rooms at the hotel before embarking on our cruise. The room was a good deal, clean and location was great. The breakfast was very good with a wide variety of western and turkish items. The Grand Bazaar is 10 minutes away walking which is a must see and shop. Street food was good and inexpensive - shwarma, fish and chips, salads. There is an excellent turkish show next door to the hotel for 45 euros. The belly dancers were excellent!! I will go back to Turkey again .. the one night stay was not enough!!
Great Location
This Hotel is the best located 4 star hotel in the old part of istanbul. It is easy to visit most of the old city's attractions and restaurants on foot. The hotel has most attributes of a four star hotel except the main thing required on a hot day in Istanbul - Airconditioning! Well they do have it it just doesn't work! Otherwise it is worth staying at this hotel.
Best location for sightseeing
The President Hotel is in a perfect location to see all the main sights of Istanbul. It is 50m from the Grand Bazaar and slightly less from the excellent tram system which takes you to all the main areas for a fixed 1lire30 fee (60p). You can easily walk to the Blue Mosque, Haghia Sophia and the Basillica Cistern (must see). There are excellent restaurants nearby, I recommend Ademos which is in an alley two turnings up on the right from the Sultanahmet tram stop. The hotel itself is a standard international hotel. The rooms could be anywhere but are none the worse for that. Beds are firm (me 15stone) or hard (my wife, lighter). Everything is clean. The hotel is in a quiet location for Istanbul and you will not be disturbed at night although a siesta may be more of a problem with a mosque right next door. No coffee or tea making but a kettle can be purchased for £1.60 from the bazaar! Breakfast is fine with a choice of cereals, breads, jam, meat, eggs. Coffee is foul (nescafe) but the tea is good. Prices for drinks and meals in the hotel are relatively high (£2.80 for a beer and £21 for the set menu in the restaurant) but not absurdly so. I can recommend the steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. The indoor swimming pool is more of a (quite cold) plunge pool. All in all, a good place to stay for the price.
Excellent Location
This hotel was in an excellent location. It's just a few minutes to the Grand Bazaar and very close to all of the major sights. Rooms were basic but clean. The buffet breakfast was very good and had a lot of variety. I would recommend this hotel.
Terrific hotel!
The hotel is conveniently located in the Old City and is within walking distance from major sightseeing destinations, e.g. Blue Mosque, St. Sophia and the market. The dining room offers amazing views and breakfast buffet offers an amazing variety of cerela, yogurt, eggs, cold cuts, desert and fruit. Staff is extremely helpful and is willing to go the extra mile. Would definitely stay again!
Sufficient
Just stayed there for 4 nights and found that the hotel is fine. Overall comments: Positive: + the wireless internet functioned good + the room was tidy up and supplies were replenished everyday + the hotel personal was nice and helpful + the in-room safe is large enough to accommodate the laptop + the window can be opened a little that one could have fresh air if you like + the breakfast was average, for me, no surprise but definitely better than some hotels For German national: + it has two German TV channels + the plug is the same as in Germany Negative: - just personal preference: the shower does not have an extra hand pipe, I mean, the water of the shower come only from above (sorry for my poor english but I hope you understand what I mean) - higher floor has the chance of noise disturbance from the party room at the top floor, primarily at night on saturdays. But it didn't disturb us much as it was not very loud. However, it really depends on your noise tolerance level. Tips: * When you take the tram there from airport, get off at Beyazit station and turn left to the traffic light and then crossing the street on your left. Then go straight ca. 50 meters and the hotel is on your left hand side * The neighbourhood becomes relatively early quiet(from around 9pm) when compares to Taksim * Sorry to learn that I missed the Orient house's Belly Dance, which is on the same street of the hotel. I am not sure if it is worth the visit or not, but it is one of the favourites of tourists * Gedikpasa Hamami can also be an alternative to the other two beloved Hamami * Currency exchange is easy to reach in each neighbourhood & at airport (located closed to baggage claim of the arrival hall as well as in the departure level after passport control). The rates are very ok and better than if I exchange it in Germany.
