Plaza Hotel

Spent two nights in this hotel, which was selected and booked by a client as the hotel where their event was being held was fully booked. Arrived late in the evening (around 11pm) and first impressions were good: the lobby is clean and bright, reception checked me in quickly, and a porter carried my bag to my room on the eighth floor. Stayed at this hotel for two nights in Feb. 2008 whilst in Istanbul on business. The booking was made on my behalf by a client. There's nothing really wrong with it, and it is in the centre of Istanbul, but there is no way that it was a 5 star experience.

Stayed in Plaza for 14 days in November. Check in - no issues and the reception staff - no complaints. The room - I was on the excecutive floor - was ok. The only complaint is that the windows did not open and even in November the room was a bit too warm for me. Breakfast was on the last floor (22) and the view was great (but this is only for the excecutive floors). Food -. I would say was average. I stayed here for 2 nights. After reading other reviews I was braced for the reception staff who were ... fine. My reservation was messed up, but I had not sent a fax as they asked, and they had my name misspelled. Tip: get a reservation code number. There was no problem with the young guy behind the desk. He was very helpful and was going to find me a room anyway. This is a business hotel in the business district. so they are aiming for uniformity and lack of surprise. This is a tower close to the business district. Reception is unfriendly :not a word of welcome; the receptionist just grabs your passport and hands out documents to fill in. Architecture is cold and unpersonal. Breakfast buffet is large but quality is average (scrambled eggs seem to be made of powdered eggs); the menu at Divan Pub (coffee shop)mainly proposes "international cuisine" plus some local items. This hotel is located right in the heart of the Istanbul business district and even though it may be a 10 minute taxi ride to the old part of the city it is well worth trying. Rooms are spacious with plazma screen tv mounted on the wall. Bathroom is perfect with separate bath and shower. Had swimming pool and jacuzzi all to myself. Breakfast was amazing.
