Barcelo Eresin Topkapi

We had previously had lunch at this hotel on a cruise ship tour and thought it looked very nice. So we booked three rooms using our Travel Agent. There were three couples traveling. We were so well looked after! We each got a junior suite, not much on the view but very clean, plenty of hot water and very comfortable beds. The Eresin Topkapi is a 5 star hotel with definite 5 star prices - just have a look at the bar and mini-bar prices! (avoid these and do some shopping at nearby mini-marts). I think we got a free upgrade to the Premier rooms, which meant the rooms were on the spacious side and very clean. Breakfast was included in the price and a large buffet was laid out every morning. This hotel claims to be 5 star, but is very over rated. Whilst we had no major problems, there were several small incidents. Eg the staff at the reception desk/room service spoke poor English, the toilets took a long time to refil and therefore flush, there were no ice buckets (and it took over an hour to have one delivered to the room), we had 2 towels for 4 people, the breakfast (in a dimly lit adn cramped room) lacked fresh produce and was cleared away at 10.30 promptly regardless of the number of people in the restaurant and you were not... more

This was our first trip to Turkey, and coming from Berlin, Germany, we didn't know what to expect. We went with scepticism and returned with enthusiasm. Our visit to Istanbul was imbedded in a golfing holiday to Antalya. We had a group of 18 people staying at Barcelo Eresin Topkapi Hotel in July 2007 for 2 weeks. The staff was really helpfull, they were always there when we needed them with a lot of sources. We had seminars everyday so we needed to use their business center and they provided us all the technical equipments easily even if we requiered them at the very last minutes. we were in Istanbul to spend our Christmas holidays. we had lost our luggage in Milano malpensa and this was quite a bad luck , but unfortunately one of us was robbered or lost her wallet on the tram in Istanbul . Receptionist and everyone in the hotel were helpful in keeping us relaxed and one of them came with us to the closest police office to translate our report . We have just returned from a visit to Turkey and a great stay at Barcelo Erasi Topkapi hotel. Although everything was excellent one event makes it clear that the guests are the prime concern of the hotel staff. On the last day- we were to depart the hotel at 6:30 AM, which is the time the breakfast area opens ready for the guests. We stayed for 3 nights after a SAGA cruise. We would rate the bedrooms and facilities as good. The health facilities including pool as excellent- though the early morning sight of lounging men might put off some ladies. The porters lost our luggage initially. The breakfasts were very good, dinner less so. Staff generally very helpful and friendly

On the first night of our 4 night stay, my wife and I were tired and preparing for bed at 11:30 PM. Suddenly our door opens and people who had just checked in and were given our electronic room key walked in. Our visit at this hotel ended when they failed to give us a wake up call on the morning that we were leaving for our flight home. Fortunately, we were up. We have just returned from a 4 night stay in Istanbul. I'd read the reviews here and the hotel is 3 km from the sights which I actually found to be a bonus. What better way to see the real Istanbul than to walk the (very easy) route into all the sights, taking in the university on the way and lovely patisseries and coffee shops, past the grand bazaar entrance...wonderful!
