Antik Hotel Reviews

1 / 10
May 2008, Mr D Clark

Antik hotel is a very average hotel down a back alley. Unfortunately it's the staff that let it down completely. It may as well be self service as they are not interested in even calling a taxi for you. I wouldn't bother staying there, there's so many other hotels, it would... more

mixed feelings
centrally located hotel, clean with nice and tasty breakfast. convenient acces to large bazar and public transport. in that sense suitable for business trip or city break. on the other hand, staff were not the best sofar in hospitality and courtesy with a smile. although booked and pre-paid through tour operator, there was some hassle with the bill. only because i had specifically asked for receipt, i was saved another discussion and possible extra charges on early morning/ nightly check out.
a charming plave in a very lifely area
modest from outside , but very inviting inside . Very friendly and quick sevices . Our room on the 5th floor was excellent , with a tremendous view . Same view from the restaurant .interesting the art floor in an old Romas cistern . And near by public transport (which worls perfectly) and Kumkapi fish restaurants in walking distance . Im sur we´ll stay there again
I've stayed here 3 time and have always enjoyed it
Granted, I'm not the most demanding traveller, but I truly like this hotel. What I probably like most are its location and its price. It's a bit west of Sultanhamet, very near the Grand Bazzaar, Istanbul University, and Bayezit Square. It's half a block off the main tram line, about two blocks either direction to the nearest tram stop. But it's still walking distance to Sultanhamet, so you have options, depending on how much walking you've already done. The "dirty street" where the hotel is located is in the bustling area where the Grand Bazzaar seems to overflow its banks, full of little clothing shops and real Istanbulus going about their work. This area is the equivalent of New York City's garment district, not Broadway, and the little side street--again, literally half a block from the main street--gets congested and loud and used for deliveries. This has never bothered me (it's just people going about their work in a big city), and if anything, has made me feel like I'm seeing more of the "real" Istanbul. And it makes the hotel seem more like an urban oasis. Glazed windows keep out every noise except the call to prayer. Rooms are average size by European standards and very clean. Staff runs the gamut from extremely friendly and helpful to seemingly pre-occupied. Wait staff at breakfast and in the restaurant in general seem the most attentive. The free breakfast is average, but the restuarant is actually quite good and not unreasonably priced for other meals. The dining room overlooks the Sea of Marmara and its tanker traffic. Don't believe what TripAdvisor quotes as the "average price"--rooms can be had for half that cost in what by any definition is a 4-star hotel (out of 5) anywhere in the world. It's my hotel of choice in Istanbul--provided the rates don't rise--and I hope people who have had bad experiences there keep writing in so it won't become too terribly popular. For me, it's a hidden gem.
Not a 4 star hotel! Not recommendable at all!
Hotel does not deserve 4 stars! The only good thing was that it is close to the important sights in the old part of Istanbul. The lobby is very dark and nobody seems to take care of. Service is not good. You dont get an appropiate answer (we asked for the way to a well known restaurant on the map showing them the address, but they couldnt answer). Rooms are very small. Furniture is quite old and not nice. On new years eve we had no warm water any more at 19:30h!! A cold shower is just what you don't need in december with snowstorms outside! Breakfast was very disappointing. We didn't try lunch or dinner. There are other hotels in the city at the same price which are much better.
Unfriendly Hotel
I booked this hotel for 8 of my friends for a long weekend 05/2008. Whilst the hotel rooms were ok, I found the staff quite unfriendly, and unhelpful. For instance the first night when we needed a cab to go to a restaurant, they said it's best to go and hail one from the streets. 30 mins later and drenched from the rain, we returned to the hotel and insisted they book a taxi. They did and it came in 5 mins. No reason given for the original brush off. We needed our shirts ironed one evening, however there are no irons in the rooms, and when we asked, the paid ironing service was closed. The desk said a local shop would iron them, and quoted an unreasonable price. We agreed with the hotel, but 1/2 an hour later they came back unironed, and our money returned without any explanation. Thanks Antik. When we checked out we ordered a taxi to take us to the airport. there were 5 of us on this flight, and ask the front desk for a larger taxi. They charged us for the price of 2 taxi's and squeezed us into a 4 seater taxi. The taxi arranged by the hotel was also illegal as the driver said to pretend we were related to him if the police asked. Not much choice when you got a plane to catch. In my view it seems that once the hotel's booked you have to stay there - the money's now in the bank & the hotel staff do not make any effort with you or care about your stay. I only require the basics from a hotel, good location, clean rooms, and some basic service. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Why take a chance with Antik, there are so many other hotels in Istanbul.
Antik Means Old and Tired
The Antik Hotel is close to many sites and the bazaar but is on a dirty back street. The rooms are uncomfortable, and the bathrooms are tiny. The people at the front desk are unfriendly and act as if you are disturbing their lives if you ask a question. The food is mediocre. The "famous" rooftop restaurant has a lousy view because of the multitude of buildings between it and anything of interest. There are much better buys and even better locations nearby.
The Antik Hotel--a gateway to visting Istanbul, Turkey
The Antik Hotel staff in Istanbul, Turkey was courteous, warm and responsive, assisting us US tourists in navigating an eastern European/Asian country. It was a haven every day when we returned from our sight seeing splendors. Every morning, on the rooftop 5th floor, the staff provided a tasty, extensive buffet breakfast, with offerings that spanned the tastes of Europeans, Asians, Americans, and Latinos. Leisurely drinking coffee and munching on Mediterranean items such as cheese, tomato, and breads, while people-watching the international spectrum of guests was an enjoyable way to start the day. The hotel is located smack-dab in the center of old Istanbul (blocks from the Grand Bizarre, right at the Bezayit Mosque and square). From there we walked or took the tram to the major tourist attractions and historical landmarks. To walk to the Bosphorous, and across the bridge on our way to the Golden Horn, was a marvelous feature of the location. Walking through Istanbul neighborhoods allowed us to sample the culture in a way we could never have, such as a bus tour or taxi trips. The hotel sponsered a fantastic New Years Eve party on the 5th floor roof top facility The food and drink were wonderful but the entertainment was outstanding. The musicians combined eastern music with western pop hits, and got everyone dancing before the night was over. Then, dancers featuring all kinds of choreography from the native eastern European and Asian lands added to the exotic and fabulous experience of New Years Eve 2007 in Istanbul.
nice hotel
The hotel is very nice. Great location walking distance form all the tourist attractions. The metro satiation is in a walking distance if you want to go to new city. The rooms are clean and modern. The breakfast is o.k.(basic) but the view form the hotel restaurant which is on the roof is great.
Fine Hotel
Very Clean and also friendly helpful staff. Another review said the hotel was terrible but i have stayed in many hotels of comparable price in old city and this one was way way above average. Yes the rooms are small but what do you expect in a city this old and full....i would definately stay here again. They also let me bring my cat.
Terrible hotel
Rooms were very very tiny and old, the bathroom wasn't even room for 1 person at a time. They would not run the air conditioner, would not stay here again, this is the hotel Pacha tours uses so we had no choice. Elizabeth, Columbus, Ms.
