I should have travelled with elderly parents who unfortunately were not able to make the trip.

The owners George and Ann made up for this by plying me with Rum Punch and snacks on my arrival. Due to other guests having difficulties with plane connections to Barbados I slept in the elegant plantation house cooled by the island breezes alone the first night.

Breakfast turned out to be a gourmet affair preceded by observing the monkeys with pround father George. The monkeys performed for me alone on my second morning.

As the house is located on a hill above the Garrison Savannah on the outskirts of Bridgtown hiring your own transport would be recommended for a longer stay - but other than that delightful and relaxing.

Lovely rooms, beautiful grounds, close to all venues - Ann's gourmet food alone is worth the trip to Barbados. I highly recommend Sweetfield Manor.

The Best Part of the Trip by pontiacMissouri

If you are planning a cruise out of Barbados this is the place to stay before or after your cruise. It was the highlight of a great trip. George & Ann Clarke have a rare beuaty in Sweetfield Manor. From the greeting and rum punch with just the right amount of fresh ground nutmeg, to the beautiful rooms and views, to the five course gourmet breakfast served by Ann's manslave George, the visit before our cruise was a delight. We stopped back in after the cruise for a dip in their fantastic pool before the cab right with Clayton to the airport. Please do not miss the crows nest view of Bridgetown harbor, the roosters crowing away in the morning, the strong black coffe, or the delightful stories of the island's history that George is full of. Wonderful, welcoming stay in paradise by Jojostepi

This is a truly stunning place. We were welcomed by the wonderful owners Ann and George who are the best B&B hosts I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The house is a stunning old manor with beautiful, airy rooms. The daily changing gourmet breakfasts set us up for the day.The garden and the natural pool are relaxing and there is nothing about our stay that was unsatisfactory. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay.

If you had enough of accommodations trying to fit the needs of the  

masses, try this pearl of comfort and easiness! If you want to go away  

and find relaxation with hosts that become more friends then managers.  

If you want to create a vacation without stress and social obligation,  

go to Sweetfield Manor!

With its panoramic ocean view and walking distance to Brown’s beach  

and close proximity to Bridgetown with all sorts of delicious  

Caribbean food & restaurants, jazz we thought it was a perfect  

location. At Sweetfield Manor you can relax your stressed soul by the  

pool, on the deck, there are plenty of rooms and places are available  

there for every mood.

We flew in from Germany during a cold wintertime, and we found out,  

that we didn’t only change your clothes there, but we changed our way  

how to live life in a different, relaxed style.

Our thanks go out to Ann and George (Captain) Clarke for the way they  

made us welcome. The breakfasts were so great and filling they lasted  

us for most of the day! This was a true vacation not just another stay  

at another hotel!

We shall return.

My husband and I, along with another couple, booked one night before our cruise out of Bridgetown at Sweetfield Manor. We loved the atmosphere, it was very clean, we felt totally welcomed by Ann and George, and the view was lovely. The pool area is beautiful and overlooked the water in the distance. The house itself is very well restored and very interesting. We stayed in two rooms that occupy a separate building overlooking the pool, each with a private bath. Both rooms were plenty large and nice baths. There is AC to use at night but breezes kept it quite comfortable in the daytime. They suggested using mosquito spray before we went to dinner and then closing up the room with the AC on to keep out the bugs and that worked great. I'm the first to get bitten so I was a little worried but no problem. They suggested Josef's for dinner as we were looking for somewhere nice and with a water view and we had a great dinner there. They made the reservation for us and arranged for a car to take us. The driver was also available to following day and we had him take us around the island for 4 hrs before he delivered us to the cruise ship. I think we would have had a difficult time seeing nearly as much if we had rented a car, and it was so easy to get around this way. Breakfast was absolutely the best I've had in a B and B, just great, all homemade, delicious! We had fun watching the monkeys run around the property. I would highly recommend staying here. Its not a beach resort, but that wasn't what we were looking for, and it was far nicer than most resorts!

Sweetfield Manor - a tucked away B & B of uniqueness by Davidbignose!

We found Sweetfield Manor by searching the web, as it only opened to paying guests last year.

The home is a former plantation house that George and Annie have nursed back to life, and boy have they done a wonderful job! It has atmosphere, gardens, views, a great pool and also a jetted soaking tub. The king bed in our room allowed us to sleep which is what we wanted. We arrived 12 hours late due to technical problems and as fellow inn keepers from Vermont we wanted peace, good food and to be able to do not a lot. We achieved all this!

The house is very original and the restoration has been careful to retain many aged features, but the bathroom was 100% modern. Not one taxi driver knew where it was despite knowing the road it is located on. You enter through some impressive gates and the house is well set back from the road. It is five minutes drive from the sea but is set in Brittons Hill, a suburb of Bridgetown. Thus you do not feel like a tourist. Their swimming pool is a design achievement and their web site does not do it justice. They offer complimentary Wi-Fi. We would suggest you hire a car for your stay but if you wish to hire taxis (once you know where you are) you can easily direct them.

George the owner gave us some excellent restaurant recommendations and also a lift in his wonderful old and well used Toyota. We had to visit the US embassy amongst other things, and George certainly knew the best route, the best sights to see and also where the best views on the island could be found.

George who is a former financial guru, retired to the island of his heritage from Florida, loves people and is most welcoming. Annie his charming wife, is a little more reserved until a glass of wine is in her hand and conversation starts to flow. The pair of them are natural innkeepers, and we should know as we have met hundreds in the last 20 years.

We have discovered a real find on this tourist island. However they are not taking any more visitors (we were not that bad!!!!) as a newly appointed banking chief has hired the entire house until at least September 2008. If he does move on (which I hope he does) get yourself booked in.

We will certainly be back when their doors open again.
