Tries, but not quite good enough - worth the effort for Rhodes South however

"We stayed in the updated gold sea view room. They have tried really hard with the interior, but it is very 'changing rooms' - looks good but is obviously very poorly done. The room and bathroom were poorly lit, the mirrors weren't positioned anywhere practical, and the patio had big gaps in it and looked only partly laid. And to be honest I'm not someone who typically notices these things.

The 'sea view' only worked if you were stood up, if you sit on the patio as someone who is 5ft7 you cannot see over the balcony wall! Plus its more of a partial view, with an amazing view of the carpark and the noise of the building site next door (where they started work at 7am)

The spa was well done, I loved the mood lighting and affort that had been put into the decor. However it is purely a small pool, sauna, streamroom, etc rather than a full blown spa

The clientele of the hotel were very much the retired Bournemouth brigade, with the odd younger couple thrown in. Food on the terrace was ok but its worth walking across to the pub on the quay

The food in Rhodes South however was impressive, well worth a visit. For this reason I would go back but I wouldn't bother to upgrade or to expect much from the accommodation

Wonderful hotel, fantastic staff and professional friendly service

"My husband and I got married at the CHH in June and also had our wedding recption there. As soon as we saw the hotel we knew that it was the place for us to get married! It was reasonably priced, had a fantastic location and the staff seemed professional and friendly and were very prompt in delivering information that I requested all the way up to the wedding. The day itself was wonderful and everything ran smoothly thanks to Bogdan, Lauren and team. Our guests thought the hotel was fantastic and it enabled everybody to stay overnight and relax by the coast! The food is also fantastic and we will be returning to have dinner as newlyweds!!"

Brilliant location and excellent service

"We stayed for three nights on one of the hotels own B&B deals in a bronze room. The room was excellent and we had a sea view, although bronze rooms are only supposed to have inland views! The food choice at breakfast was very good, as was the service. We had one meal in the Harbour Restaurant, again the food was excellent, worthy of the two AA rosettes and the service was very professional as well. But two things make this hotel stand out, the location right on the waters edge and the excellent customer service, every member of staff I dealt with gave the same very high standard of service, nothing was too much trouble ."

Great location, nice hotel, shame about the staff

"We stayed here recently with our two little girls and my parents. We loved the location and our room was lovely and big. Unfortunately a whole host of little details meant that I really couldn't recommend the hotel. We arrived for our 3 O'clock check in. It took almost 40 minutes for our rooms to be ready. The table we sat at to wait with two grumpy girls needing their afternoon sleep was filled with glasses and despite trying to get the attention of the staff, the table remained uncleared for the whole 40 mins and we could not order any drinks! The rooms were lovely but very hot and it seems they are having problems with their air conditioning. They said every room had fans supplied but neither of our rooms had fans and we had difficulty getting some sent to the room. With the girls finally sleeping we went out for drinks on the terrace. Once again it was a real effort to get someone to serve us. They were very nice people once they did finally come but there was just an overall feeling that noone was managing them. I went to the bar area to try and get someone to serve us and 5 staff were standing around telling jokes and having a lovely time, whilst noone was serving drinks on the terrace! Dinner was fine but our waiter once again had to be reminded numerous times about drinks orders and food choices. This is a lovely hotel in a lovely location which is being let down by poor management."

Fantastic Wedding at Christchurch Harbour Hotel

"From the day we first viewed the venue until the late afternoon we walked out, man and wife, the Christchurch Harbour Hotel "delivered" well beyond our expectations, and those of our guests. The attention to detail and willingness of the staff to make the day special was not surpassed even by it's fantastic location. All our guests commented positively about the food, venue and staff. We would like to say a really special thank-you to Lauren for helping us plan, and being so very patient and professional. Also to Adam for keeping everyone feeling relaxed and happy by orchestrating the day so proficiently - even calming a panicky Mother of the Bride on a last minute hitch - which he sorted out completely

Just Brilliant - no hesitation in thoroughly recommending Christchurch Harbour Hotel as a fantastic Wedding venue.

Fantastic Location

"We did not stay here but lunched in the dining room. We had no complaints at all. All the staff were delightful and the lunch was very good value. The hotel is still undergoing improvements but this did not detract from our visit.

If the hotel is still to be looking good in a few years time attention must be paid to cleaning. The plastic light fittings on the chandeliers were dirty and one also had dirty looking water in the fitting. The fireplace is stainless steel and already looks stained. One of the fans in the restaurant does not look attached to the ceiling and was looking most precarious as it whizzed around. I wouldn't like to be sitting under it!!

We sat at conservatory style furniture and already there was a buil up of crumbs on the edges where the wood meets the glass.

We certainly enjoyed our time there and would return again.

Great location and hotel - shame about the noise and restaurant

"A lovely room with a good view. Annoyingly the electrics are bizarre with switches unmarked and out of sight and almost out of reach. Our room looked over a building site one side and Rhodes South and the sea on the other side (corner room). The building site started up at 7:15am with noisy equipment.

The restaurant was inadequate as we had to wait, with others, for breakfast. Food was generally good but the dinner was a huge let down. The paino player had to compete with disco music from a party downstairs. He lost. Numerous people complained but it made no difference. We had a last minute deal and would have been extremely disappointed to pay full price. The building work will finish but unless they soundproof the basement area, not a place for a quiet weekend, which is a pity as Mudeford Quay and Studland are just a short walk away.

Lovely hotel and stay, slightly let down by small details...

"My husband, our 18 month old daughter stayed here for two nights recently. We went on a discounted rate offer which basically gave us two nights for the price of one. This felt like good value, but paying £150 a night for a Bronze room would not have been.

The room was nicely decorated with some interesting touches and quite roomy even with a travelcot in there (which the hotel supplied). It was surprising though that for a newly renovated hotel there is no a/c in the rooms nor a fridge.

We didn't realise that even though it was very hot outside the towel rail in the bathroom blasted out heat and when we finally turned it off it took a long time to cool down which added to the stuffiness of the room. Also, the light switch system was incredibly annoying. You turned one switch and one light would go out and another come on. Push another one and the first one would go off, press one more and they would all come on, or off all in complete randomeness.

The staff were friendly and helpful but slow at lunch and dinner service even though it wasn't busy. We had lunch and dinner more than once on the terrace and the food was good but overpriced. We were charged £3.30 for what was definitely tap water. The location of the terrace is spectacular though. We also had dinner at the adjoining Rhodes South and it was a great experience. Great food and service plus they were accommodating for our young daughter.

Breakfast was a bit disappointing really. My husband is a fan of the full English and he was not impressed. The sandwich spread was a bit tired looking and my scrambled eggs were downright bad. Had we paid the £12.50 for it it would not have been worth it.

Over all, the hotel is nice with friendly staff and a great location. It is five minutes from the beach and some lovely walks. The hotel also has a spa and gym facilities plus a pool. I didn't have any treatments but the pool area was nice if a bit small which may get annoying when it's busy as it's also a gym/spa club for external people.

I would recommend the hotel, but perhaps say either go for an upgraded room with a view, or make sure to get it on a deal. Christchurch as a place is quite old and staid but also nice and relaxed.

Excellent value for money. Fabulous location.

"We booked a few nights with my 9 month old daughter. The hotel is still refurbishing but they make every effort to not disrupt or affect the service they offer. The decor and layout is modern and fresh but still with an old English drawing room feel to it. We had a Bronze twin which was spacious and light. The drawback is they have no AC and can get warm, the outside temperature was 20 degrees so we struggled a bit.

The restaurant I felt they were punching above their weight for the prices and not completely delivering creativity but the standard was excellent. I had perfectly cooked locally caught sea bass.

The spa is the real highlight here. Children are only allowed at certain times of the day but this is an excellent idea to give the adults quality 'downtime'. Facilities include hydro therapy pool, a salt room and sensory loungers that pump essential oils and crashing wave sounds as you recline by the pool.

Another huge plus is the location. The hotel looks out on to Mudeford Quay which is tranquil and idyllic (especially midweek). We felt like we had really 'gotten away from it all'. For the price, I highly reccommend this hotel. Money well spent.

Fabulous for relaxing weekend by the sea.

"We went for a girly spa weekend. We stayed in a bronze room which was lovely (but with no mini bar or hairdryer). We both had a couple of treatments which were exceptionally good. If you want to hit the town you probably need a taxi which cost £5 each way. Staff are helpfull and friendly. Breakfast was delicious. All, especially the spa was spotlessly clean and beautifully presented."
