Tryp Albayzin Hotel

I stayed in this hotel on the recommendation of a spanish friend and therefore had high expectations. I have to say I was disappointed. Our greeting at reception was lukewarm to say the least, although the calibre of the reception staff varied greatly depending on who you spoke to. The decor in the room was dated but it was clean. The best feature of this hotel was its proximity to a lovely plaza which is abuzz with activity and charm in the evenings. A Saturday night stroll down the plaza was the most relaxing part of my 10 days in Spain. The hotel is older and retains its old world charm, but the rooms and bathrooms could use a face lift. We stayed at this hotel in June 2005 and loved it. We had a triple room and even with the extra bed the room was still spacious. The decor is nice with Moorish touches without being too over the top. The room was also very clean and bright and looked out onto the Basilica next door. The clock at the basilica chimed every 15 minutes during the day which some people may find annoying, but didn't bother us, especially as we were out most of the day. this hotel is conveniently located by el corte ingles...not too far of a walk from the main plaza...nice, clean room...and very courteous, nice staff.

The plus points of this hotel were excellent breakfasts,as good as i`ve had anywhere,with a great variety of choice.The location was good,adjacent to an old church,in a quieter area 10mins from the busier centre.Helpful,friendly staff and a very clean and relaxing reception/bar-lounge area.Slightly less impressively,the room was a touch small,but clean and the bathroom needed a little re-grouting in places but nothing too bad.There was a little noise from the street at the side of the hotel but nothing major(may be worse in july-august).My... more

The hotel was clean and comfortable and is, as mentioned in other reviews, not in the 'dead center' of town, but still within a very easy walking distance. We stayed there with two rooms, for two nights, and we loved the spanish touches of the decor and the breakfast was great. The front desk was most helpful with helping us to see La Alhambra, since we didn't know that reservations are needed during high season and even let me use one of the office computers to check my business email when the guest computer was acting glitchy. We have now stayed here on two occasions. It is not quite central as described but the centre is an enjoyable 10-15 minute stroll away. It is in a quiet location with several nice bars on the doorstep including an excellent patisserie across the road. The breakfast was absolutely wonderful with a wide range of hot and cold dishes as well as lots of fruit. All in all, it is excellent value.

We stayed for one night - it's a great location. In the midst of town within 5 min walk to Cathedral where all the shops are. You can also take the #31 or #32 bus and tour the famous Albayzin area - fly through the narrow (and I mean narrow!!) pebble stoned streets in a mini-bus for only $1 Euro (great experience). You can stop at Plaza St. Nicolas for a magnificient view of the entire Alhambra. If you do stop at Plaza St. Nicolas, be sure to have dinner at this unbelieveable restaurant - very reasonable price but fine dining - it's down... more

The TRYP Albayzin is located in the centre of Granada, just off a busy street and is not too noisy. The rooms are small but clean and are equipped with minibar, safe and T.V. The hotel is beautifully decorated in keeping with the moorish style of the city. The Alhambra is only a 15 minute walk away, and the Cathedral is closer. We felt very safe in the area. There is an excellent buffet breakfast available until 11a.m. We would definitely stay there again.

When I'm trying to find a hotel, I want to know if the place is clean and kept clean during my stay, is the staff friendly and is the neighborhood safe. The Tryp Albayzin answers "yes" to all three. Ever so slightly off the main crossroads of the city (Puerta Real) and along a wide promenade, it avoids the noise and rush of being right on the main drag without eliminating the convenience of a central location.
