Puerta de Las Granadas Reviews

10 / 10
Dec 2005, Mr Dean C.

Small hotel but with a perfect location. Rooms and bathroom were a bit small but very clean. My thanks to all the staff but specially to Luis, who gave us lots of tips about where to eat and places to go. Just an advice; if you are travelling by car the best thing is to... more

Thought it was terrific
We loved the decor - clean, simple and cool. Everything still looks quite new, and the air conditioning was excellent (and needed!). Our room was probably one of the larger ones, at the back and looking over the lovely patio - though not huge, it was what we expected for the city centre in terms of size. However, our friends had a room on the first floor that was quite small and had no window - just a skylight. When they asked for a better one, the staff said they could move them, but just for one night and they would have to move them again the second night (it's quite a small hotel). As they decided not to do that, they gave them their breakfast for free. I would happily stay here again, though be careful to request a room on an upper floor.
Fab location, cheap and cheerful
Hotel in fab location at bottom end of hill leading to Alhambra (about 20 mins walk to ticket office). No need for public transport once you are here (taxi from bus station costs approx 5 euros), opposite Plaza Nueva and close to Gran Via, the Cathedral and shops. Great place to stay on a budget, paid just over £40 per night. Rooms are small, but adequately air conditioned. Bathroom was small but modern, with walk-in shower. Staff are very polite and speak great english, always helpful with local information. Only complaint is that some days we could faintly small drains for some reason. Nevertheless would definitely stay here again as found the locality and budget fantastic.
Great Hotel
We stayed here for one night with our teenage boys. We had two rooms. The rooms are cozy (small). The bathrooms are sort of IKEA inspired. All was very clean. There was a minibar which we used. We didn't have any complaints about AC, but then I love it blowing on me. IT was 98 degrees while we were there, so we had no complaints. We left before breakfast. Was very close to Alahambra, but we took the minibus up. I wouldn't walk up. You will get plenty of walking just getting to Alahambra from the ticket center IMHO!! We just ate a quick meal at square at bottom of street. I would stay again. You don't come to Granada for the hotel rooms.
Nothing special (and not for coffee lovers!)
After the generally good reviews of this place we were expecting something pretty good. However this hotel was generally a disappointment (apart from its undeniably superb location). The room was small and dark, and the bathroom was even worse. The service was not bad, but generally quite unavailable and un-interested in the guests. The breakfast is okay if you like your sugar and carbs (which we didn't!) but the quality is very poor for the amount you are paying. Also, the coffee was dire - worst we have ever tasted! There must be better value hotels in the area and I would suggest shopping around for them.
Cool place
Attention everyone.....this is a must place to be in Granada......I've stayed at this charming hotel and it is absolutly a great place to stay. Tha staff there, and staff is the wrong word.....you fell like part of the house when you get there, Elena, Laura and Tiago were so nice and helpful, The hotel by itself is very clean ,breakfast are really good, bed very comfortable. The terrace area is superb, and this hotel is so well located, that you dont have to walk 5 miles to go u need to go....My FRIENDS there <Elena, Laura, Tiago> made my stay really easy and so enjoyable. Do not hesitate a second if you need to book this place...and for sure I will go back there. Andre from Philadelphia area....
Great find
Attractive, well kept hotel in a great location convenient to Plaza Nueva and Alhambra. Rooms are typical size of European hotels (i.e. cozy) but modern and clean. Free Internet access is added bonus. Staff was eager to assist with directions, suggestions for dining, attractions, etc.
Nice hotel
This hotel is in a very convenient location. It is on the road that leads to the Alhambra (a very steep one!) and about a 5 minute walk to the Cathedral. The hotel is very well kept, spotelessly clean rooms and modern decor. There was also one computer with free internet access for all guests at the hotel. We paid about 78 Euros a night. The only complaint we have is that the sink, in its modernist style, leaked a bit of water now and then and the room was quite small and unnaturally hot. We couldn't figure out why our room appeared to be hotter than outside! The only conclusion we came to was that there must have been a boiler very near the room. We did have air conditioning but as the room was so small it was positioned right above the bed and therefore blew straight onto us and so was too chilly. We ended up waking every morning in a sauna. Lord knows what it would be like in July! I'm sure other more expensive rooms are fine. Other than this, a lovely hotel and good value for money.
Puetra de las Granadas a great hotel!
The hotel's location is perfect if you're only in Granada for a few days as the city centre is right on your doorstep. The bus stop for the Alhambra is one minute down the road and takes you to the door and there were plenty of inexpensive bars and restaurants in Plaza Nueva which is 2 mins away. The hotel was quiet and clean with a very pleasant little courtyard in the centre. There was a working lift and free internet connection for the guests. The hotel staff were amazing so helpful and everyone spoke perfect English, they even booked our Alhambra tickets for us. The room wasn't spacious but it was comfortable and clean with modern fittings and air conditioning. All in all a great stay, I would definitely recommend the Hotel Puerta de las Granadas, it made out trip perfect!
Excellent service, good location
The staff in this hotel are incredibly friendly, speak excellent English, and really help visitors to get the most from their time in Granada. The hotel is very conveniently situated a 10min walk (all uphill) from the Alhambra - the hotel will book your tickets in advance and this is very worthwhile as it prevents a long wait at busy times (i.e. nearly always). The rooms are small but ours was well laid out and had good facilities; it was also very quiet, apart from the drifting noise of the semana santa procession bands in the week we stayed here. The lift only makes it to floor 3 and a narrow and winding staircase is the only way to floor 4 so visitors with mobility problems should make sure their rooms are floor 3 or below. Good, varied and relatively inexpensive breakfast buffet.
Convenient but room too small and pokey
Stayed at Puerta de Las Granadas in May '05. Hotel is in an excellent location at the foot of the hill to the Alhambra Palace and very near to the Alabacin / Arab quarter so all the attractions are at your doorstep. The room that we were given however was so tiny that if one person was moving around the other person had to lie on the bed. Also, although the room was on the first floor, it was actually below ground level because it's built on a hillside, so it was very dark and the "view" was of either another window or a wall about 10 feet away (you could look up at the sky though!). On the upside, the rooms are very clean and well maintained and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you stop at this hotel though I would recommend that you specify a room either at least on the second floor, or at the front of the Hotel. Mike, Liverpool (UK)
