Plaza Nueva

Booked this at the last minute since it was on a special offer €60 for double room including breakfast, so weren't expecting much for our money - how wrong we were! This hotel is excellently located for the Albaicin (Old town), the Alhambra, the Cathedral and the rest of the city. It's a typical old spanish house with the central (roofed) courtyard. The rooms are basic but have everything you'd need, and the breakfast is better than you'd expect for a small hotel like this. And there are plenty of lovely little tapas bars in the streets... more

This hotel exceeded my expectations. The rooms are MUCH nicer than the photos. Everything's been newly refurbished and it looks great. The staff are friendly and the hotel is right next to the best tapas bars in the city as well as the famous street of tea shops. My only complaint is that the breakfast room is a bit gloomy and closes kind of early. We splurged on the Alhambra Palace our last night and it was not worth the extra money as the quality was not much better than the Plaza Neuva.

Perfectly placed hotel for the Alhambra. Extremely clean and tidy throughout. Decor very tasteful and attractive on the eye. Excellent value for money. Would stay there again.

I thought this little hotel was wonderful! We had two rooms, a double and a double given to me as a single, which meant I was swimming in space, in a room that was very tastefully decorated, especially the bathroom, which is one of the best and cleanest i have had in Spain (though I must admit they overdo it on the cleaning products in Spain in general, because sometimes an overpowering clean odor emanates from the bathroom day and night...too chemically)... A last minute change of plans led us to stay in Granada for one night in August 2005 and we chose the Hotel Plaza Nueva based on a very positive four star review in Time Out Andalusia. The hotel is pleasant and offers the basic requirements but does not meet the standards of a four star hotel. My girlfriend and I stayed here for three nights in October 2004, and we both really liked this hotel. The hotel is right on the Plaza Nueva directly across the street from the bus that takes you to the Alhambra. The Cathedral is only about five minutes away, and the pedestrian streets around the hotel are full of restaurants, bars, teahouses, merchants, etc. Our last day, we walked up to the St. Nicholas overlook and then meandered down the streets of the Albaicin. This hotel was the worst of the hotels we stayed in on our trip to Spain and Portugal. I was debating between Plaza Nueva and another hotel based on quality of the room description and potential for noise. In order to gain my business, Plaza Nueva promised me a top floor superior room with views of the Alhambra. This was our favorite hotel during our travels through Madrid, Sevilla and Granada. We stayed in the Suite, located on the 4th floor. The room was HUGE. and the bathroom extra large! The balcony was beautiful, all of the windows covered with beautiful shutters. The bed was comfy and everything was very clean. The view was amazing. Stayed there 25th to 28th February 2004 Good service level all round. Check-in smooth, friendly and helpful. Breakfast wasn't included in our stay. Room was a very good size and the bathroom was a good size. The quality of fittings and furnishings was of a high standard and comparable to a 4 star establishment. This wonderful little rose-colored hotel fronts right on the Plaza Nueva. The front rooms have tiny balconies with a perfect view of the Plaza, the fountain, and the medieval church of Santa Ana. The Alhambra looms over the Plaza, and the nightly view from the balcony of the moon rising over the Alhambra was priceless. The owners are very friendly and helpful, even advising me on which local wines to try when I was out.
